Everyone Can Hear My Thoughts, and Now They're Panicking

Chapter 240: You’re Not Fully Healed, Why Are You Pushing Yourself?

  • Next Chapter

Luna Morgan could have never imagined that a moment of soft-heartedness would lead to this.

She was being discharged from the hospital today, and Pauline Shaw had come to pick her up.

Pauline Shaw, worried Luna would get bored waiting, went to handle the discharge paperwork herself and told her to wait in the car. As a result, Luna ran right into the Lucas family.

When that family saw Pauline’s luxury car, they took a picture with their phone to look up its price. Their attitude changed in an instant, and they demanded she repay the money immediately.

It was useless no matter how Luna Morgan tried to explain that the car wasn’t hers and that she really had no money.

Not only that, but the man from the family even got right into the driver’s seat, saying he’d never driven such a nice car and she might as well just give it to him.

Luna Morgan was dumbfounded. ’How can these people be so shameless?’

It wasn’t until Pauline Shaw came out after finishing the discharge paperwork that she saw something was wrong. She rushed over and pulled the man out of the car.

Then, the men Mr. Shaw had sent to trail and harass Pauline Shaw also gathered around.

Pauline Shaw made a split-second decision, jumped into the car, and slammed on the accelerator, driving out of the hospital.

But a moment later, the group was chasing after them.

Mr. Shaw’s men were driving two battered vans. The two groups must have decided to work together, joining forces to trap their car in a dead-end alley.

——

When Luna Morgan came to her senses, she realized who Pauline Shaw had called.

’If this was just about her, she definitely would have stopped her. She didn’t want *him* to see her in such a pathetic state.’

’But now, the men sent by Mr. Shaw were also stirring up trouble...’

BANG! BANG! BANG! The car’s engine had just been turned off when the pounding on the outside grew louder again.

Accompanied by faint voices, the men were shouting for them to get out of the car.

After shutting off the engine, Pauline Shaw kept her lips pressed tightly together, not saying a word. The men outside seemed provoked by her cold attitude and shouted that if they didn’t get out, they would smash the car.

They weren’t just making idle threats. A moment later, one of them pulled out a steel pipe.

Luna Morgan grew anxious. "Pauline, open the door and let me out!"

"No..."

"The people after me just want money. Once Mr. Lowell gets here with it, the situation will be resolved," Luna said, her voice firm. "But it’s different for you. You have to stay in the car. Lock the doors tight as soon as I get out, okay?"

Pauline Shaw understood what she meant.

Of the two groups, it was clearly the men sent by Mr. Shaw who were fanning the flames.

The people after Luna Morgan wanted three million, which was manageable. But Mr. Shaw wanted three *billion*, an amount she was completely unable to pay.

Mr. Shaw didn’t really want the money. He wanted the company’s core technology that was in Yara Yates’s hands.

To that end, he constantly sent people to trail and harass his own daughter, trying to break her will and force her to compromise.

’In his dreams!’ Pauline Shaw gritted her teeth. She would never, ever compromise!

"You... be careful."

Luna Morgan nodded, then took a deep breath. "Now!"

She shoved the car door open and, before anyone could react, slammed it shut behind her.

CLICK. Pauline Shaw instantly locked the door.

"You want money, right? I’ve already had a friend go get it. Three million will be delivered here shortly. But if you smash this car, you won’t get a single cent!"

The members of the Lucas family hesitated. They had cornered Luna Morgan for money; smashing the car was probably not worth it.

Mr. Shaw’s men glared at Luna Morgan, worried she would ruin their plans.

Luna Morgan looked at them. "I suggest you all leave quickly, too. Caleb Lowell will be here any second."

The men were taken aback. Their leader sneered, "And why should we believe your bullshit?"

Luna Morgan knew their information was outdated; after all, Caleb Lowell’s return had been sudden.

When Pauline Shaw had mentioned it during their meeting that morning, an unrealistic thought had actually crossed her mind. ’Could he have come back to pick me up from the hospital?’

But she quickly dismissed the idea. ’It must have been for Jane Lancaster.’

She had seen the news online yesterday. It said Miss Lancaster was being forced into a marriage by the Hughes family of Solara. To marry Jane Lancaster, the other party was willing to concede billions in a business deal.

Because Julian Lancaster had agreed to the marriage alliance, he was being torn apart online, with people accusing him of selling out his sister for his own glory.

’The reason Miss Lancaster refused the marriage is because she’s never gotten over Mr. Lowell, right?’

’Now that Mr. Lowell has rushed back from so far away for her, they can probably confess their feelings and get back together, right?’

Luna Morgan forced herself to pull away from her thoughts and looked at the men seriously. "Everything I said is true. You can still get away if you leave now. Otherwise, Mr. Lowell won’t let you off easy."

Seeing her speak with such certainty, the men began to hesitate.

But at the same time, they were unwilling to give up. The last few times they’d tried to trail and harass them, they had been driven off by Pauline Shaw’s boyfriend. Today, they had finally managed to corner the two women by themselves.

"Damn it, fall back!" the leader quickly made up his mind.

They prepared to get in their van, but the Lucas family grew anxious.

"No, you can’t leave! If you go, what about us?"

They didn’t even know where they were. That group had driven them here; how could they just abandon them and run off?

Besides, if this Caleb Lowell guy made these thugs so wary, they couldn’t risk a situation where their family not only failed to get the money but ended up in trouble themselves!

The middle-aged woman rushed to block the front of the van. "How do you know she’s not lying to you? She tried to trick us today to get out of paying her debt!"

"I’m not lying to you! I even signed an IOU!" Luna Morgan was utterly shocked. ’How can they be like this?’

The middle-aged woman retorted self-righteously, "Who’s to say? You promised to give me money yesterday, but did you?"

After she got home yesterday, her husband had chewed her out, suspecting she’d been fooled.

Who would just agree to give a stranger so much money out of the blue, and even go out of their way to write an IOU?

The more the family thought about it, the more suspicious it seemed. They suspected Luna Morgan had no intention of paying and was deliberately tricking them.

They had gone to the hospital early in the morning to corner her, and just as they’d expected, they saw Luna Morgan being discharged, clearly planning to run off!

Now the whole family was furious. They weren’t going to let this go until they saw the money today!

Mr. Shaw’s men stopped in their tracks. "You dare to play us for fools?"

Luna Morgan’s heart sank. "I’m not!"

The leader reached out to grab her. Luna Morgan quickly tried to dodge, but her path was soon blocked by the Lucas family.

The moment her wrist was seized and twisted, Luna Morgan sucked in a sharp breath from the pain, and a cold sweat broke out on her skin.

In the car, Pauline Shaw’s palms were sweating. Unable to hold back any longer, she started the engine and put her foot on the accelerator.

"Pauline, don’t!" Luna Morgan cried out in alarm.

At the same time, the pressure on her arm vanished. She looked up and saw the figure of Caleb Lowell throwing a punch.

Everything that followed was over quickly.

Caleb Lowell’s bodyguards had, for some inexplicable reason, gotten into a fight with Jasper Sterling’s bodyguards early that morning. They’d been forced to stop before they could really let loose.

These punks were nothing. They weren’t even a proper warm-up.

Those thugs were filled with regret. They hadn’t expected Caleb Lowell to have actually returned. If they’d known, they would have taken her advice and slipped away earlier.

A few bodyguards moved to grab the members of the Lucas family, but Luna Morgan cried out anxiously, "Don’t hit them!"

A tearing pain shot through her chest. Caleb Lowell quickly steadied her. "Your body hasn’t even fully recovered yet. Why are you trying to act so tough?"
