Chapter 160: Chapter 160: Former War God, Your Pursuit Isn’t That Fast

"ROAR!"

The Holy Light White Tiger and the Abyssal Giant Wolf suddenly roared in unison. At the same time, the two figures locked in combat in mid-air abruptly separated.

Bai Ye and Si Jin each stumbled several yards back, chests heaving, the spiritual power around them still churning wildly.

But almost simultaneously, their gazes snapped to the spot below where Yun Sheng had been sitting.

It was empty.

Their pupils contracted in unison.

Without a moment’s hesitation, they both dove from mid-air, landing beside the rock where Yun Sheng had just been sitting.

There was no sign of Yun Sheng.

Nowhere to be seen!

Bai Ye’s spiritual power instantly unfurled like an invisible net, frantically probing in all directions.

Si Jin’s Dark Power also surged forth, sweeping over every inch of land and every thicket of trees like a tidal wave.

A few seconds later, Bai Ye’s expression turned grave.

"Her presence... is gone."

Si Jin’s fists clenched with a CRUNCH, the violence in his eyes practically overflowing.

"There’s the scent of another Sentinel. A moment ago, someone took advantage of our distraction..."

He trailed off abruptly.

’Someone was watching them from the shadows!’

While they were locked in their struggle, while neither of them was paying attention, that person had spirited Yun Sheng away without a sound.

’To pull this off right under their noses, the culprit’s power is definitely on par with theirs!’

Just then, the Abyssal Giant Wolf cried out again, the ghostly blue flames around its body dancing frantically.

It turned its head toward a direction deep within the dense forest, letting out an urgent, low growl.

Si Jin’s eyes glinted. "That way!" he whispered.

The moment the words left his mouth, he started to give chase.

"Si Jin!"

Bai Ye called out to him, his tone heavy and laced with urgency.

Si Jin froze, whipping his head around to glare daggers at him. "What? Don’t you want to get Yun Sheng back?!"

Bai Ye stared back, his jaw tight.

"If we both leave, those pollutants will continue their assault on the canyon." His voice was hoarse and strained. "Yun Sheng’s squad members... are still there."

Si Jin froze for a second.

Then, he let out a cold, sarcastic laugh.

"That’s your responsibility. I’m no Star Alliance War God. I have no obligation to protect them."

He stared at Bai Ye, the derision in his eyes practically overflowing.

"I only care about Yun Sheng."

Without waiting for Bai Ye’s reaction, the Dark Power around him surged. Like a black bolt of lightning, he shot off in the direction the Abyssal Giant Wolf had indicated.

In the blink of an eye, he vanished from sight.

Bai Ye watched the spot where Si Jin had vanished, then glanced back toward the distant canyon, from which faint sounds of battle could still be heard.

Guo Kai and the others were still there. Reinforcements hadn’t arrived, and those pollutants could attack again at any moment.

’If I leave now, they’ll be in grave danger!’

His fists clenched, knuckles turning white and veins bulging on his hands.

On one side was his duty, the people he was sworn to protect.

On the other was Yun Sheng, the woman he would give his life to protect.

Bai Ye closed his eyes, his Adam’s apple bobbing.

His heart felt as if it were being torn apart, the pain so intense it threatened to split his chest open.

But a moment later, he opened his eyes again.

The conflict in his dark eyes was gone, replaced by pure resolve.

He turned to the pure white tiger at his side, which was wreathed in Holy Light.

"Go."

Just that one word.

The White Tiger roared at the sky. Its cold, vertical pupils met Bai Ye’s for an instant before it launched into the air, transforming into a streak of silver-white light and rocketing in the direction Si Jin had vanished!

Bai Ye stood frozen, his gaze following the streak of light until it was completely gone.

Then he turned and strode toward the canyon.

’Since I can’t abandon either side, I’ll just have to protect them both!’

Deep in the forest, Si Jin’s figure blurred as he moved at incredible speed.

Dark Power roiled around him, his steps cracking the earth underfoot. Trees toppled in his wake.

His expression was terrifyingly dark.

His eyes were a storm of violence and anxiety, threatening to overflow.

"Yun Sheng..."

He muttered her name through gritted teeth, his pace quickening even more.

The Abyssal Giant Wolf sprinted beside him, its nose twitching as it tried to catch the faint, elusive scent in the air.

The scent of an unknown Sentinel.

And Yun Sheng’s.

Closer... closer...

The Abyssal Giant Wolf let out a sudden low growl and its speed surged!

Si Jin’s eyes narrowed, and he instantly kept pace.

The moment he burst into the valley, the sight before him made him freeze solid.

A strange man stood before Yun Sheng, one hand gripping her waist and the other her wrist. He had her trapped firmly between his embrace and the tree trunk behind her.

Yun Sheng’s cheeks were unnaturally flushed, and her breathing was ragged and shallow. Her body was so limp she seemed unable to stand, relying on the tree trunk and the man’s support to keep from sliding to the ground.

Her eyes were unfocused, as if she were in a trance.

But what made Si Jin’s blood run cold was the feeling of their two spiritual powers, intertwined.

The man’s spiritual power was coiled around Yun Sheng’s. Hers seemed to have lost all ability to resist, clinging weakly to his, letting him do as he pleased.

This sight was a hundred times more jarring than when he had seen Bai Ye force a kiss on Yun Sheng.

Because back on the Capital Star, he had already guessed Bai Ye’s intentions toward Yun Sheng.

He knew that no matter how out of line Bai Ye got, he would never truly harm her.

’But this man?’

’Who is he?’

’Where did he come from?!’

’What is he planning to do to Yun Sheng?!’

In an instant, a torrent of Dark Power erupted. His spiritual power condensed into countless razor-sharp blades that shot toward the man like an overwhelming flood!

"YOU—ARE—COURTING—DEATH!"

Si Jin’s voice was like that of a demon crawling out of hell, carrying with it a monstrous killing intent as it slammed into the strange man!

The man’s gaze shifted, and he finally looked up.

He showed no panic, not even bothering to dodge, and met the attack head-on.

At that moment, the Abyssal Giant Wolf dove down, landing protectively in front of Yun Sheng.

It shielded her, completely enveloping her body to protect her from any potential aftershocks from the clash.

Then, its eyes, burning with ghostly blue flames, turned to Yun Sheng. A low whimper rumbled in its throat, as if to ask, ’Are you okay?’

But Yun Sheng was in no condition to respond.

She was still lost in the afterglow of the entwined spiritual powers, her body so weak she could barely stand. Leaning against the tree, she gasped for breath, her eyes still vacant.

Meanwhile, the man faced the overwhelming storm of blades and met it head-on.

He raised one hand, fingers spread.

"BOOM!"

The sky full of blades slammed into an invisible barrier. The spiritual power attacks, each one strong enough to tear apart a typical S-Class Sentinel, shattered like waves against a reef, dissipating into nothing.

The man lowered his hand, his gaze cutting through the churning Dark Power to land on Si Jin.

He raised an eyebrow, his eyes holding a mix of appraisal, amusement, and a hint of undisguised... provocation.

"Former War God, you weren’t so fast catching up, were you?"
