Every Sentinel I Dreamed of Came Looking for Me
Chapter 149: Cover About to Be Blown: Is White Tiger Bai Ye?
Chapter 149: Chapter 149: Cover About to Be Blown: Is White Tiger Bai Ye?
With a backhand strike, Bai Ye viciously slashed down on the A-level pollutant’s spine. The blade bit into its scales, sending a spray of blood into the air.
He used the momentum to vault away, his movements clean and sharp as he dodged with ease.
However, the S-Class Blood Scale Beast gave him no chance to catch his breath.
It let out a low roar, its massive tail sweeping toward him with the force of a thunderclap!
Bai Ye’s eyes narrowed as he raised his blade to block.
"BANG!"
The blade met the tail with a deafening crash. The resulting shockwave fractured the ground in every direction, sending dried leaves and shattered rock flying.
Just then, the A-level pollutant lunged forward again.
The two massive beasts attacked in turns, their coordination seamless.
Any ordinary Sentinel would have been torn to shreds by now, but Bai Ye was coping.
With his true strength, these two creatures together were no match for him.
But he couldn’t expose his true strength!
He reined in his aura and suppressed his power. He could have ended it with a single strike, but he could only dance around them. He could have crushed them, but he had to drag out the fight.
Just then, Bai Ye caught a glimpse of the figure on the high ground out of the corner of his eye, and an idea suddenly struck him.
The next second, he deliberately slowed his reaction by half a beat.
The Blood Scale Beast’s sharp claws grazed his shoulder, tearing a rip in his clothes and leaving a shallow, bloody scratch.
Immediately after, the A-level pollutant’s fangs clashed against his blade. He used the momentum to retreat a few steps, and as he absorbed the impact, he "accidentally" let another claw leave a gash on his arm.
The two massive beasts’ attacks grew even more frenzied.
Caught in their pincer attack, Bai Ye continuously dodged, parried, and counterattacked, but his movements began to look labored, his speed flagging.
Yet the spiritual power barrier stood firm, an insurmountable wall that steadfastly blocked the frenzied charges of the low-level pollutants.
The number of wounds on Bai Ye’s body kept increasing. Blood dripped from his arm, staining the earth below with small, dark patches.
On the high ground, everyone’s heart was in their throat.
"White Tiger Officer..." Cheng Nian’s voice was choked with tears.
Yun Sheng stared intently at the blood-soaked figure below. Her nails dug into her palms, a piercing pain she didn’t even register.
Meanwhile, in the dense woods not far away, a figure hidden in the darkness watched everything with cold eyes.
Si Jin was leaning against a tree trunk, arms crossed, staring at Bai Ye’s "miserable" blood-soaked battle. The corner of his mouth twitched.
"Shameless."
He muttered a curse.
’An SSS-level Sentinel, getting this wounded by two trash-tier pollutants?’
’He’s putting on quite the show to win her sympathy!’
Si Jin ground his teeth as he watched Bai Ye get struck by the Blood Scale Beast’s tail yet again, sending him stumbling back.
He sneered.
’Keep acting. Go on.’
’Let’s just see how far this Star Alliance War God is willing to take his performance!’
But in the next second, his gaze drifted involuntarily to the figure on the high ground.
Yun Sheng stood there, her face filled with unconcealed worry as she stared at Bai Ye without blinking.
Si Jin’s brow twitched violently. He gritted his teeth and snarled, "Bai Ye, don’t you dare think you can keep using this act to get Yun Sheng’s attention!"
His eyes darkened, and his spiritual power coalesced in an instant.
Just as the Blood Scale Beast was about to lunge at Bai Ye again, something seemed to stab viciously into its hind leg. Its massive body lurched to one side, its attack faltering.
A flicker of light crossed Bai Ye’s eyes.
In that instant, he sensed the familiar ripple of Dark Power.
’Si Jin.’
’He really is nearby!’
The corner of Bai Ye’s mouth curved into a faint, almost imperceptible smile.
The next second, instead of seizing the opportunity to counterattack, he used the Blood Scale Beast’s imbalance to deliberately slow his reaction by half a beat.
The A-level pollutant’s fangs slashed viciously across his shoulder, and blood immediately gushed forth.
The wound was even deeper than before!
He grunted, stumbling backward, but used the motion to reinforce the spiritual power barrier behind him, trapping the two massive beasts and the swarm of low-level pollutants.
Then, Bai Ye spun around and sprinted toward the high ground.
"Everyone, prepare to evacuate!"
His voice cut through the night, instantly steadying the panicked group.
"Guo Kai, cover the left flank! Ma Yu, the right! Everyone else, speed up! I’ll cover our retreat!"
His commands were clear and decisive, with no wasted words.
The group quickly fell into a mobile defensive formation.
The two massive beasts were tearing madly at the barrier, which was now riddled with cracks and on the verge of shattering.
"Move!"
Bai Ye barked, and the group sped through the dense woods.
After they had run for some distance, a "BOOM" echoed from behind them—the sound of the barrier shattering, followed by a thundering stampede.
The two massive beasts had broken free and were now in hot pursuit, leading a tide of pollutants!
"Run! Don’t look back!"
Bai Ye roared, sending a lunging pollutant flying with a slash of his blade.
Blades flashed and blood sprayed.
He weaved through the horde of pollutants, felling one with every strike, but there were too many. They were endless, impossible to kill them all.
Just then, the A-level pollutant suddenly sped up, flanking him and lunging straight for Yun Sheng up ahead!
Bai Ye caught the movement in his periphery, and his pupils contracted sharply.
He moved in a blur, covering several yards in an instant.
Just as the A-level pollutant’s claws were about to reach Yun Sheng’s back, a hand seized her wrist and yanked her into an embrace.
At the same time, an invisible spiritual power attack struck the A-level creature’s neck—fast, vicious, and precise—making it shriek in agony and halting its charge.
’It was Si Jin!’
’He’s been protecting Yun Sheng in secret. When we retreated from the high ground, he followed us!’
Bai Ye frowned but paid it no mind. He simply tightened his grip on Yun Sheng’s wrist and said in a low voice, "Stay close to me. Don’t let go."
Yun Sheng glanced down at the hand gripping her wrist and instinctively tried to pull away.
But the moment she looked up, she was met with a lunging pollutant.
Bai Ye sent it flying with a backhand slash, but his other hand never loosened its grip on her.
Yun Sheng pursed her lips.
She knew this wasn’t the time to fuss over such things.
The pollutants were growing in number, and the situation was getting more dangerous. If she broke free, not only would she be in danger, but she might also become a liability for White Tiger, who was fighting desperately to protect them all.
She took a deep breath and, in the end, didn’t move.
And so, Bai Ye pulled her along, fighting as they retreated.
His grip was tight, as if he was afraid she would be hurt the moment he let go.
Hiding in the shadows, Si Jin stared daggers at Bai Ye’s hand and ground his teeth.
’What a piece of work, that Bai Ye!’
’I helped him out, and this bastard uses the opportunity to grab Yun Sheng and not let go?’
A vein throbbed in Si Jin’s temple. He took a deep breath, and then another, desperately telling himself he couldn’t reveal himself, couldn’t expose his position.
But when he saw Bai Ye pull Yun Sheng away from another pollutant, his hand never letting go, he couldn’t hold back any longer. He forced a single word through his clenched teeth.
"Despicable!"
Meanwhile, on Bai Ye’s end, more and more pollutants were catching up. Roars echoed from all directions, and the foul stench was nearly suffocating.
Even so, Bai Ye kept Yun Sheng shielded behind him.
The wound on his shoulder was still oozing blood, and his back now bore several deep scratches, yet he stood firm before her, not yielding a single step.
Yun Sheng watched him, but another face surfaced in her mind.
The face of the Star Alliance War God from Capital Star—lofty, impartial, the one who had relentlessly pressured her.
’Is he really the same person as this man, covered in blood, who is protecting me with his life?’
She felt a sudden sense of disorientation.
’If White Tiger really is Bai Ye, why is his attitude so drastically different now?’
’Could it be... that I was wrong to suspect him?’
’That White Tiger isn’t Bai Ye?’
Staring at that blood-soaked back, Yun Sheng felt her own suspicions begin to waver for the first time.
