Chapter 150: Chapter 150: Male Competition: Secretly Vying for Favor

"What are you spacing out for!"

Bai Ye’s deep voice suddenly boomed in her ear, and Yun Sheng’s wrist was abruptly jerked.

She was pulled into a warm embrace, just barely dodging the pollutant that lunged from the side.

Sharp claws grazed the edge of her clothes, kicking up a foul wind.

With a backhanded slash, Bai Ye sent the pollutant flying before glancing down at her.

"Focus. Be careful."

His voice was low, yet filled with concern.

Yun Sheng raised her eyes, meeting his gaze.

Her heart fluttered, as if a string had been gently plucked.

’Could this person... really be that famously impartial, always-frigid Star Alliance War God?’

Yun Sheng’s feelings grew even more complex.

However, before she could sort out her thoughts, Bai Ye was already pulling her by the wrist, leaping several yards back to a relatively flat clearing.

The trees here were much sparser. Unobstructed moonlight spilled down, and their field of vision opened up at once.

Bai Ye glanced around, released Yun Sheng’s wrist, and said in a deep voice, "Everyone, halt!"

Guo Kai and the others halted, their eyes all turning toward him.

"The ground here is open, which makes it better for fighting. We were running because the terrain was complex and we could have been easily surrounded. Now, with a clear line of sight, this is the perfect place for you to get some practice."

Bai Ye paused, then pointed his blade at the S-Class Blood Scale Beast.

"I’ll take this one. Guo Kai, Ma Yu, you take the A-level. The rest of you, pair up and deal with the low-level pollutants. Work together and be careful!"

Everyone was stunned.

Zhao Qian’s face turned pale. Staring at the densely packed pollutants, her voice grew shrill.

"You can’t be serious, can you? There are so many pollutants, how are we supposed to beat them! Aren’t you just sending us to our deaths?"

"You have to fight even if you think you can’t win!"

Bai Ye’s brow twitched. His gaze swept over her, and his voice grew colder.

"What did you come out here for? For training, was it not? Pollutants won’t wait until you’re ready to appear. If you don’t fight now, what will you do when you encounter an even more dangerous situation later? I’ll be watching. I won’t let anything happen to you. But this is a battle you must fight yourselves!"

At this, Guo Kai took a step forward and said in a low voice, "Don’t be cowards! Our missions these past two days weren’t for nothing. It’s rare to have such a good chance to practice, so show us what you’ve got! Pair up, hurry!"

Seeing that everyone was still a bit flustered, Ma Yu clapped his hands and encouraged them, "Believe in yourselves! You can do it!"

Standing to the side, Cheng Nian and Li Wen heard them and quickly exchanged a glance.

Li Wen was the first to speak. "I’ll team up with He Yi."

He Yi nodded, having no objections.

Cheng Nian then naturally walked over to Yun Sheng’s side. "Yun Sheng, we’ll be a team."

Seeing this, Zhao Qian’s eyes lit up, and she quickly ran to Zhou Ying’s side.

"Zhou Ying, I’ll be on your team!"

Zhou Ying shot her a look, her tone flat. "Don’t drag me down."

Zhao Qian immediately bobbed her head. "I won’t, I won’t! I promise!"

The groups formed, and everyone quickly went to face their respective targets.

Yun Sheng and Cheng Nian stood back-to-back, facing a few low-level pollutants that were closing in.

Cheng Nian’s spiritual power was relatively weak; she was almost incapable of attacking pollutants with it.

She tightened her grip on the blade in her hand and turned her head to ask, "Yun Sheng, can you handle it?"

Yun Sheng nodded. "I’ll try. Back me up!"

As soon as the words left her mouth, three thin needles of spiritual power rapidly condensed, shot through the air, and stabbed directly into the eyes of a pollutant charging at them.

The thing let out a wretched scream, its movements freezing instantly.

Cheng Nian seized the opportunity to land a finishing blow with her blade, ending it completely.

"Nice! Yun Sheng, your spiritual power has improved again!"

Yun Sheng’s lips curved into a small smile, but she said nothing.

Her spiritual power was indeed much more substantial than before. As for the reason... that was difficult to explain.

So she stuck to forming three thin needles of spiritual power, careful not to reveal any more of her ability.

...

Not far away, a hidden figure leaned against a tree trunk, their gaze fixed intently on Yun Sheng.

Watching her dodge, watching her attack, watching her repeatedly form her spiritual power to fight the pollutants.

A few times, she was nearly pounced on by a pollutant. His fingers twitched instinctively, but he forced himself to stay put.

Si Jin knew what Bai Ye was doing.

Yun Sheng needed to grow stronger, to be able to protect herself.

Otherwise, once they returned to the Capital Star, her special ability would only attract more covetous eyes.

Those people wouldn’t give her time to grow, wouldn’t wait for her to slowly become stronger. They would swarm her like sharks that have smelled blood!

So, no matter how worried he was, no matter how much he wanted to rush out and pull her into a protective embrace, he had to remain still.

Si Jin took a deep breath, his knuckles turning white as he clenched his fists, but his gaze never left her.

...

Meanwhile, Bai Ye swung his blade to meet the S-Class Blood Scale Beast, blade and claw clashing repeatedly.

He appeared to be completely focused on the behemoth before him, but a sliver of his peripheral vision remained firmly locked on the slender figure not far away.

Watching her dodge, watching her attack, watching her repeatedly form her spiritual power to strike at the pollutants.

Watching her body tense instinctively when she faced danger, and her brows relax slightly after each successful dodge.

Bai Ye’s thin lips pressed into a tight line, and the swings of his blade grew heavier.

He knew Si Jin was definitely watching from the shadows as well.

He guessed that fellow was probably grinding his teeth in frustration, dying to rush out and pull her into a protective embrace.

But they both knew this was a path Yun Sheng had to walk herself!

Thinking of Yun Sheng’s special ability, Bai Ye’s brow furrowed deeply.

When he had found Si Jin in the abandoned mine pit earlier, the man had been on the verge of a complete breakdown.

His spiritual power was rampaging, his consciousness was fragmenting, and he was on the brink of total collapse. It was the most dangerous state for a Dark Sentinel who had lost control, a situation from which there was almost no coming back under normal circumstances.

Yet, in just two short days, Si Jin had regained his sanity and could wield his spiritual power freely, showing no signs of having completely lost control.

It had to be Yun Sheng, helping him repair the cracks in his spiritual landscape in his dreams.

Such a heaven-defying ability...

Bai Ye’s heart sank.

Once the Tower and the Star Alliance high command found out, what would those people do to her?

Would they treat her like a rare treasure to be revered, or lock her up in a lab for research? Or perhaps, force her to become a tool dedicated to repairing and soothing the spiritual power of Advanced Sentinels...

No matter which path they chose, it wouldn’t be what Yun Sheng wanted.

And it was certainly not something he could accept!

Bai Ye’s grip on his blade tightened, his gaze drifting unconsciously back to the figure in the distance.

Yun Sheng and Cheng Nian were coordinating their attacks against the surrounding pollutants. Although their movements were growing more practiced, it was obvious their speed was slowing down.

Their spiritual power was severely depleted, and their physical stamina was about to give out.

The other team members nearby were in a similar state; everyone was reaching their limit.

But the pollutants kept coming in an endless stream.

One, two, five, ten...

It was as if they could never be finished off.

The aura around Bai Ye shifted. He was about to release a blast of spiritual power to intimidate and forcibly repel the creatures.

Just then!

A strange noise suddenly came from deep within the dense woods nearby.

The sound was deep and dense, as if some behemoth were moving toward them, or perhaps like countless footsteps pounding the earth at once, shaking the leaves from the trees.
