Chapter 3843: War God’s Request

  • Next Chapter

The War God looked around for a moment.

"Would it be okay if I asked for a bit of privacy here, seniors?" he asked both the Sky God and Sunflare.

The Sky God nodded. "I don’t particularly mind giving you your privacy. However, I can guarantee that he won’t," she said, gesturing to Sunflare. "So, you might as well speak of your concerns out loud. Or I’m afraid you will have to choose to remain quiet."

The War God held a complicated gaze as he looked between the two Celestials before finally sighing and giving up.

"Very well," he said. "It isn’t so important that I can’t speak in front of you, seniors."

He turned toward Alex next. "Young Dawnblade, do you remember what I told you once long ago?"

Alex thought through their interaction back then, especially on top of the stage during the interview. "I remember various things. Which one are you referring to?"

"Regarding the book you found," the War God said. "The one that belonged to my master."

Alex’s eyes narrowed. "Do you mean the array? What about it?"

"Remember what I told you about it?" the War God asked.

"That I could use it freely," Alex said. "Has that changed?"

"No, but I also told you that while I may allow you to use it, my elder brother may be of a different mind," the War God said. "And he is. He won’t be coming here, so instead he has made sure that I fully explain what it is that he wants."

"Your elder brother, meaning the Array God?" Alex asked. "What does he want me to do with the array?"

"He wishes that you stop using it," the War God said.

Alex watched with some awe for a few seconds. "I have to stop using the array? Why?"

"Because he says so," the War God said. "Listen to me. You don’t want to anger my brother. I really hope you can accept this request and swear an oath never to use it again."

Alex stared at the man with a deeply concentrated look. He didn’t give an answer immediately and instead took his time coming up with his decision.

"Alright," he said in the end. "I will do it. But only if the order comes directly from the owner of the array."

The War God nodded with a relieved look. "Good. Now say the oath."

Alex looked at the man. "Are you the rightful owner of the array?" he asked.

The War God was somewhat taken aback. "Of course I am. It is my master’s technique, so along with my senior brother, I am the owner of the technique. And my senior brother is the one who sent me to do this, so he has consented anyway."

"Your master created this technique?" Alex asked.

The War God let out a snort. "Have you forgotten the name of the array or what? The first two words tell you who the array belongs to. The Hell Emperor, our deceased master. As such, we are the owners."

Alex shook his head. "Your master’s name may be in the technique, but all it does is prove that the technique is named after him. Not that it was created by him."

The War God seemed irritated at this point since Alex kept fighting back over the smallest things.

"Of course he created it," the man snapped a little. "Who else could do that?"

Alex smiled suddenly. "Good question, senior." He raised his hands to the side. "Here is your answer."

Next to Alex appeared the old man Battlesage, who looked around the room with a confused look for a moment before he recognized the place. Unlike Alex, he hadn’t come to this place more than once, so it had taken him a moment to realize where this was.

The War God frowned slightly. "Who is this?"

Alex turned toward the War God and smiled. "Allow me to introduce him. This is senior Battlesage, though he received that name only recently. Previously, he went by a few different names and titles, though the most important one would be his real name, Wu Shaozhe, better known as the Grand Elder of the Endless Night Sect. A resident of Hell who escaped with me."

The War God’s eyes narrowed for a moment, as though the name created a spark within him that previously didn’t exist. Images flashed through his mind, memories of the past, one of which was his master speaking about the person in Hell who was practically his master.

"That’s him?" the War God asked Alex. "Is that really him? Tell me you’re not lying."

"Yes," Alex answered. "What reason would I have to lie here? If I wanted to lie, I would just tell you what you wanted to hear and leave immediately. But that isn’t who I am. It isn’t what I chose. I choose to tell the truth. And that truth is that this old man right here is a master of your master."

The War God’s eyes slowly widened as the truth reached him bit by bit.

Wu Shaozhe. Resident of Hell.

The name alone jogged a memory deep in the recesses of his mind. His master had told them a lot about his time in Hell. And if any event was to be talked about, it had to be how he went on to conquer the world and name it what he saw fit.

Hell.

"My master spoke of his closest confidants back in Hell," the War God said as he slowly stood up, his eyes focused on the old man. "But never was he more thoughtful than when speaking about you."

The War God remained unfazed throughout the entire thing, but on the inside, he wasn’t sure what it was he was supposed to do.

He had called for Alex to get rid of the array and swear an oath, but now that there was a man with a claim that he was the original owner, there wasn’t much to do.

Not that the War God was truly ever against this. All he did, he did because of his elder brother.
