Chapter 3578 Successor
Chapter 3578 Successor
"Well, with all that being said, I suppose I do not need the Blood God's Manual from you," the Sky God said. "That does not mean that the others won't come looking for it. The report I received claims that a sea of crimson beasts appeared in the sky above the city where you and my soldier fought. That sort of news travels quickly, and it is not impossible that the Blood God will come looking for it."
Alex supposed that was true. "In that case, I will try not to use my blood beasts as much as I can. And in the meanwhile, if the Blood God does catch on to the fact that I do have the book, I will simply claim that I returned it to you along with everything else. That will, of course, be the last thing I do when I don't see a way out."
The Sky God shrugged. "That works for me. Then, moving on to the Alchemy God's book, will you not return it to me either?"
Alex wasn't sure how to answer that question. The Alchemy God's Knowledge held the inheritance of the Alchemy God, which Alex had already received. In a way, the book was practically useless to him.
The only other thing the book was useful for was the secret he believed it held, but that was surely a secret woven into the content of the book and had likely nothing to do with the physical body of the book.
In that case, there was no reason he shouldn't give it to the Sky God.
However, he could never be entirely sure that was truly the case. He needed that book for the day he gathered all three of the Alchemy God's treasures and the information that the Alchemy God left behind finally resurfaced.
For that alone, he had to keep it.
"May I ask who the Alchemy God's book belongs to?" Alex asked.
"What do you mean?" the Sky God asked.
"I suppose I'm asking how you came by this book," Alex said. "Did the Alchemy God's faction in the Medicine World leave this book with you as part of the treasures you kept in the War Deterrent Treaty?"
"No and no."
"Why the two nos?"
"Because the Alchemy God's faction didn't bring this book to me. The Alchemy God did," she explained. "And it wasn't part of the War Deterrent Treaty. I received it a long time before from Littleflower himself, who wished me to keep it until…"
She froze a little, as if suddenly remembering something.
"Until?"
"Until… he found a successor."
Alex narrowed his eyes. "So… me?"
The Sky God had seemingly not considered that fact at all, and it was only just hitting her right now that the promise she made nearly two hundred thousand years ago had finally been fulfilled.
"Yes," she said slowly. "I suppose that is you."
"Then I don't have to return it, do I?" Alex asked.
"No, you don't."
That was all Alex needed to hear. "Then you won't mind me keeping the book, do you? I am the current successor of the Alchemy God after all."
The Sky God nodded. "I suppose you are."
"In that instance, is there anything else you wish me to return to you?" Alex asked. "I can't think of anything that you could want, honestly."
"Well, I can't think of anything important that I am aware you have either, so no," the Sky God said. "For now, you may do as you please with what you have."
"Thank you, Your Brilliance," Alex said.
The Sky God leaned back. "That is all then. You may leave."
Alex couldn't just leave so easily. "May I ask a few things about the Alchemy God before I leave? I hear that you are most likely one of the few I've met who can answer me about him."
"About Littleflower? I can tell you what I know. What do you want to ask?" the Sky God said.
"Well, I have a few things I wanted clarification on primarily. First of all, how did he die?" Alex asked.
"He got caught up in a battlefield outside of the Silver Soul Realm," the Sky God said. "He had likely never imagined that the enemies would push their way into one of the inner realms, so he was caught off guard and died during that battle there."
"Is that really true, though?" Alex asked. "Or is that just what is reported?"
The Sky God seemed confused. "What do you mean? It is true that the Alchemy God died in the Silver Soul Realm."
"I did hear that, but did he die to the demons, or was he assassinated by someone else?" Alex asked.
The Sky God narrowed her eyes in that moment. "Do you believe that the Alchemy God wasn't just another victim of war?"
Alex shook his head. "I'm sure my master has told you about the Slayers, especially the one whom the Godslayer could not remember. The Alchemy God has a similar missing piece in the inheritance he left behind. There is a name that goes blank whenever he tries to speak of it. According to him, this person was after him for a secret. And it is my belief that he caught up with my master in the Silver Soul Realm and killed him."
The Sky God's demeanor changed a lot when she heard that. Her eyes lowered, seemingly in thought, as she remained in that state for many seconds before finally speaking again.
"When I last saw Littleflower, he did allude to the fact that his life was in trouble," the Sky God said. "I had asked him then who it was that was after him, but he would not tell me. I believed he was only being paranoid. When he died some years later, I honestly believed that he ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"However, if what you're saying is true, then it makes sense why he acted the way he did."
