Chapter 940 940: Growth
—
A long time passed by like water on a stream, never returning…
The world kept going forward, and so did Cedric, though it’s not that obvious since he mostly kept to himself nowadays.
50 out of 99 Origin Laws…
He was halfway through this road, and the closer he was to the finish line, the more difficult it was to resist rushing forward or forcing his way there.
The temptation to just keep going, to just see everything all at once so that he could make his final push and achieve the real pinnacle of existence—all of it was just too strong.
He supposed that this, in itself, was a test too. And if he fell for it, he would fail to achieve what he truly wanted out of this. Therefore, as tempting as it was, he resisted with all of his might, and so far, it has been manageable.
If others were in his position, they’d probably not be able to endure it like he does. After all, the peak of existence—the Primal Origin Lifeform Realm—was just within reach. No effort was needed; just a mere thought would be enough to get there. Who could resist that?
That’s why Cedric’s patience and endurance were admirable. Anybody else would bend by now; they’d willingly fall into temptation, they’d yield, compromise, and reach out for that sweet and easy fruit and tell themselves that they deserved it after working hard for so long.
Honestly, Cedric wouldn’t be able to blame them because even he was strongly tempted. The number of times he heard whispers in his ears, seducing him to just reach out, disarming him, and telling him to yield, is too much.
If it weren’t for his tempered will and unwillingness to betray his instincts, he would’ve fallen for it by now.
As such, even though he’s making such quick progress cracking one origin law after the other, it doesn’t necessarily mean that he’d just be fine.
The closer he was to the end, the more temptation he’d face. He needed to be on guard and to stay true to himself. He can’t fall for it, no matter what, or else he’d regret it for the rest of his life.
After coming this far, Cedric had to resort to limiting his origin energy output and sealing his inner world, just to prevent himself from accidentally stepping to the final realm.
It’s such a unique dilemma, you see, because while others were struggling and desperately trying to reach for that final realm—the peak of existence itself, so much so that they’re even willing to risk their lives for it—here he was preventing himself from reaching that realm. A conscious decision, a rejection simply because he wasn’t ready yet.
Such a comparison would truly infuriate anybody should they know about it. Fortunately, Cedric kept it a secret so far.
But, just because Cedric limited his origin energy output and sealed his inner world, it doesn’t mean that he had weakened himself.
Hell, even if he did, he could stand up against him? With 50 origin laws dancing at his fingertips, he could completely solve any problems before they even qualify to become one.
If he wanted to, he could completely terraform the entirety of Heavenly Star Chaos Realm according to his image, and nobody would’ve been able to do anything about it. And it wouldn’t even be difficult for him to do so; he just needs to exert a little bit of effort, effort that wouldn’t even come close to what he needs to increase his origin energy output to the limitations he set for himself or unseal his inner world completely.
Not that he would do that, of course, but still, he could totally do it if he really wanted to.
Speaking of terraforming…
The colonization of the two chaos realms went smoothly with the passage of years.
It’s been a long while since the initial migration happened, and with that many people working for the same goal, the two chaos realms have completely transformed, adopting a human flair very quickly.
The coordination of the teams was impeccable. And even after for so long, the eagerness and passion of the colonists didn’t fade. While it didn’t stay at the peak for very long, at the very least, it was maintained to a more than acceptable level.
And now, this phase was entering its final stages too.
Soon, both chaos realms would be more than ready to accept more colonists. Moreover, it’s about time both chaos realms start accepting their permanent residents and raising their first batch of locals!
This was actually the third, and most likely, the final phase of the colonization project.
Everything that humans would need to populate and thrive in these new realms had been laid down and built for them. In fact, there could’ve been batches of newborns who’d rightfully call themselves natives of these realms by now.
The only reason why there weren’t any was because the council hadn’t allowed it yet.
But now that they’re approaching the end of the second phase and have entered the preparatory stage for the third phase, the council is now thinking of lifting that ban.
The third phase might take the longest period to complete since it requires many births to start filling up both chaos realms with humans.
Mind you, even though humans had a gift of high reproductivity, it’s not as exaggerated as how the Bug Empress does it. Moreover, almost all human babies are born weak and sensitive.
Even humans couldn’t completely overpopulate the Heavenly Star Chaos Realm after so long of being here. How could they be expected to fill either or both chaos realms that quickly?
That’s why this third phase was going to take some time to complete.
Still, this doesn’t mean that they won’t try. If anything, there is already a long line of people who are willing to participate in this project, especially when there are benefits promised with it.
Who could say no to that?
However, it’s a little too early to talk about this; the third phase hasn’t even officially begun just yet. Most people don’t even have a clue about what the third phase needs.
But while everybody was paying close attention to the development of both chaos realms and eagerly waiting for new updates, Cedric remained focused on his own territory.
He didn’t participate in the anticipation; he wasn’t even remotely excited for anything that has something to do with those places.
It had gotten old for him, so he’s just indifferent about it.
His main concern had always been his progress in origin laws and his family and territory.
Everything after that was secondary.
While everybody raves about the colonization efforts, Cedric periodically watched over the projects happening within his territory. While everybody excitedly discussed matters of both chaos realms, he was in his office deliberating on how to maintain or increase the prosperity of his home.
While everybody stretched their necks and squinted their eyes in attempts to see how far the colonization has come so far, Cedric quietly amassed wealth and pulled even more distance between himself and his competitors.
The Rising Sun Sector Domain had been the undisputable #1 Sector Domain in the council rankings for a very long time now, and the gap only increases over time, especially when everybody else is invested in something out of their reach.
Because the Rising Sun Sector Domain had dominated the rankings for a long while now, nobody noticed anything amiss. It’s already in the first place anyway; no changes there, so why be interested?
But in truth, the way this sector domain keeps going up even after reaching such a high is very suspicious.
The gap between the number 1 and the number 2 was so ridiculously large that it’s not even funny anymore.
And this is with people eagerly anticipating and waiting for a chance to migrate to either of the chaos realms under development.
It’s like, no matter what happens outside, it wouldn’t affect the state, peace, and prosperity of this sector domain. How strange indeed.
Cedric wouldn’t bother to explain. If he were asked, he’d just say that he had been rather fortunate to receive the loyalty, love, and admiration of his people.
And he wouldn’t necessarily be wrong, because such is indeed the case.
In the eyes of his citizens, Cedric’s status was even higher than the councillors’ themselves, even higher compared to Nick’s and Pat’s.
If the Human Council branded him as a rogue or a villain, his citizens would flip that table and accuse them instead. That’s how high Cedric’s status was in their hearts.
To them, Cedric was a god. A true god who is benevolent, generous, kind, and compassionate. Any insults to him would be blasphemy to their eyes, and that wouldn’t be tolerated.
Cedric didn’t mean to raise zealots, obviously. Even he couldn’t have foreseen this coming, and he didn’t even do much to transform them into something like this, but he’s certainly not complaining!
As a matter of fact, Cedric never truly cared about the rankings. All he cared about was his people. And if caring for them resulted in his territory reaching that level, then it’s just a side effect.
Cedric never thought much about it at all.
