Endless Evolution: Last Star

Chapter 1680 1680: Red Scavengers

Chapter 1680 1680: Red Scavengers

Despite how chaotic the Pit seemed at first glance, it turned out to be a fairly safe and quiet place.

It was full of strange objects, seemingly gathered from all over the world, but if a monster happened to be here and a Frenzied Shard wasn't its target, then there was nothing to fear.

Basically, it was the Frenzied Servants who posed a threat to anyone entering the Pit. Each Servant guarded its territory to protect the Frenzied Shard with which it had signed a contract.

Sure, aside from the Servants, there were many other monsters here. Otherwise, there would be no one to become Servants. But these monsters weren't stupid enough to attack three Fangs and one unknown Phantom, whose power level was no lower.

Thus, Adam, Loargh, Vyora, and Sarka had already made it halfway to the sword wall, following the amber flow as their only guide.

All conversation was left behind as they prepared for battle against a truly powerful foe. Now that they knew this Frenzied Shard had a lair, it became clear that the third servant was the real adversary, not the first and second ones.

They were nothing more than a warm-up, an opportunity for the Frenzied Shard to gather information and make the third servant as strong as possible.

After all, the Frenzied Shards couldn't move freely. Their speed was slow, and even an ordinary human could catch up to them, let alone the Elders and K4-Phantoms.

'Hmm, when Sarka told me about the dome pillars, I imagined that all the monsters there would be like Loargh. But…' His gaze settled on Vyora. 'Aren't these two very similar to each other? How did they end up in different pillars?'

Adam was deep in thought and, for that reason, didn't notice the red light coming toward him at all.

Whooooooooosh!

Before he could react, the white flash streaked past him, and in the next moment, he and Loargh found themselves on a rock to the side.

Vyora and Sarka jumped out of the way at the same time.

The red ray, like a laser, slammed into the ground, causing a devastating blast that sent up a cloud of dust and a thick layer of gray sand.

"What the…?" Adam looked up as he saw a multitude of dots in the sky.

Soon, the attackers revealed themselves. The first thing Adam saw were round, oddly shaped bodies and a single large eye.

'Wait. Are these the Gray Watchers?'

That was the first thing Adam thought, but when he looked closely at these monsters, it became clear that they were something else.

Their eyes weren't amber but blood-red. Moreover, their bodies were black, not gray. Beneath their large eyes were wide-open jaws with sharp fangs, something the Gray Watchers didn't have, as well as four dark arms, two on each side.

"Shit." Loargh cursed, which was rare for him. "I knew they might show up, but I thought we'd get lucky."

"They?"

Loargh nodded.

"These are the Red Scavengers. The name is simple and accurately reflects their nature. Usually, they appear to tear apart the remains of some powerful monster. In that case, they're no problem, and there aren't even any battles between them and other monsters."

His voice grew deeper.

"However, there may be another reason for their appearance, the energy of the Frenzied Shard." Loargh pointed at the amber flow. "In our case, that's exactly what's happening. They sensed this energy and decided to take advantage of the opportunity."

At the same moment, while more than a dozen Red Scavengers circled high in the sky, several of them descended closer to the ground.

In ragged movements, they swept through the amber flow, tearing it apart with every dash.

True, this flow contained only tiny particles of the Frenzied Shard's energy, but for monsters like the Red Scavengers, that was more than enough.

"That's strange." Adam narrowed his eyes. "Why did only they decide to do this? Where are all the other monsters? They should have tried to absorb this flow too, since it's so valuable."

Loargh stepped forward, white electrical discharges running along his body. He was ready for battle.

"Because they can do it without any consequences for themselves. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer to that question. Neither Vyora nor I know why the Red Scavengers are immune to the destructive power of the Frenzied Shard. It's their special trait."

"But it's not that simple, is it?" Adam asked, his aura gradually growing.

He sensed that this wasn't the end of it.

"Sure. This power poses no threat to them, but even for them, there is a side effect."

Loargh pointed at the Red Scavengers. Their bodies began to tremble as the yellow flame ran in a line along their frames.

This happened to all the Red Scavengers who had absorbed the amber flow, to all except one.

That one, like all the others, had gained new power. However, it wasn't an amber flame, but yellow lightning bolts emanating from its body.

"They're going mad, and like piranhas that have tasted blood, they won't stop until they've torn a piece of flesh to shreds."

Whoooooooosh!

At the same moment, two Red Scavengers opened their jaws, unleashing a barrage of red rays upon Sarka and Vyora.

Each ray was followed by a series of explosions, and Sarka and Vyora barely managed to dodge each one.

"Shit! Get away from me!" Sarka shouted as three more Red Scavengers surrounded her. They moved effortlessly at the same speed as she did, grinning widely.

Step.

Loargh stepped forward as electrical discharges ran across the ground, reaching even Adam.

"I didn't want to do this so soon. But it's my fault for not warning you about this. I'll make it right."

Before Adam's eyes, Loargh turned into a blur as soon as the white flash reflected in Sarka's eyes.

In a heartbeat, white lightning bolts blew up the three Red Scavengers surrounding her. Then, the same thing happened to the two who were firing at Vyora as Loargh continued his streak, moving straight toward the Red Scavengers hovering above.

His speed and power made him look like a bright, white star.

Adam gulped.

He realized that defeating this Fang wouldn't be as easy as his first opponent.
