Chapter 1681 1681: Third Servant (Part 1)
Chapter 1681 1681: Third Servant (Part 1)
The Red Scavengers didn't seem as dangerous as the first or second servants. They resembled an enhanced version of the Gray Watchers more than monsters with a distinct threat level.
Still, when there were so many of them, more than a dozen, and they had consumed the amber flow, the situation changed rapidly. The amber flow contained only tiny particles of the Frenzied Shard's energy, what remained of the second servant, but that was more than enough to make the Red Scavengers stronger.
Sure, Adam, Loargh, Vyora, and Sarka were strong enough to handle this problem. Their target was the third servant, who was supposed to possess power surpassing that of the other servants and even half a hundred of the Red Scavengers.
But Loargh decided to take on the entire task himself. He did this not to show what he was capable of, but to correct his mistake.
He could have warned Adam, who didn't know about this, but he didn't do so because he decided the odds were too slim.
Well, sometimes, no matter how slim the odds were, if they were above zero, that was already too much.
Whoooooooosh!
Loargh moved so fast that white trails remained in his wake, forming patterns resembling constellations in the night sky.
Every time he leaped, it ended in the death of yet another Red Scavenger. They tried to dodge him, grab him with their arms, or sink their fangs into his flesh, but it was all in vain.
Adam watched from the sidelines, as did Sarka and Vyora. Unlike the two of them, this was the first time he had seen what Loargh was capable of when he got serious.
Wanting to catch every one of his movements, Adam's eyes followed Loargh, taking in his impressive speed.
'He's fast. Very fast. Apparently, his defense and attack power aren't that great, but… with that kind of speed, he'll be able to dodge anything. Will Sarka and I have to fight him?'
Adam clenched his fists tightly.
'This is bad. Neither she nor I will be able to catch up to him. What's more, her Vyora will be helping him. How can I dodge Loargh if I'm busy dodging a meteorite falling on me?'
When only a small fraction of the Red Scavengers remained, Adam realized one thing: everything Loargh was doing right now was a display of his energy and physical power.
'What will happen when he and Vyora use their Hollow Marks?'
Adam had no answer to that question, but he knew he'd find out very soon, and it wasn't good news for him.
Sure, if Adam were some kind of bastard, he'd be thinking of a cunning plan to attack Loargh and Vyora before their battle, at the moment when they're least prepared for it.
But Adam wasn't that kind of person. Such a victory wouldn't make him stronger or give him any pleasure.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
Loargh kept attacking, not slowing down at all. He left the three of them with nothing to do but watch.
"Agh, Loargh, as always." Vyora sighed heavily, placing her hand on her right side. "If he sets his mind to something, he'll definitely achieve it."
"Hah," Sarka snorted. "Aren't you all like that? I'm sure he practiced that attack hundreds of times before finally stepping onto the battlefield and using it."
Strangely enough, Vyora didn't react to her comment.
With a calm expression, she said:
"Thousands."
"Hmm?"
"He repeated that attack a thousand and a thousand times, never skipping sparring sessions and helping all the other monsters of our dome pillar."
Vyora turned to Adam, who was watching Loargh closely as he destroyed the last of the Red Scavengers.
"As you can see, it was worth it. Adam, you don't know how to counter this speed, do you?"
For a moment, a chill appeared in her eyes. Right now, they were allies, but as soon as the third servant fell, they would become rivals. They were on different teams, and there would be only one winner among them.
Adam was caught off guard. He had no answer to that question, and Sarka's silence wasn't helping. If her Hollow Mark could have influenced this in any way, she would have mentioned it long ago.
But before a smirk could appear on Vyora's face, a grim aura emanated from Adam, causing her face to pale.
For a split second, the Dark Energy began to emanate from him. The Red Scavengers and Loargh felt it too, but it was Vyora who bore the full brunt of it.
"Don't worry, my future opponent. I have a way to catch even Loargh."
Sarka, like all the monsters at Kaerno's pillar, saw that Adam possessed the Dark Energy. But for Vyora and Loargh, it came as a surprise.
Step.
Adam stepped forward as his shadow engulfed Vyora, along with the slowly thickening darkness.
"I admit that the methods of the Dome Eclipse are effective. Practice is useful. It helps you better understand what you're capable of, especially in sparring. But…"
His voice grew lower.
"None of this will allow you to achieve anything special, not even in a thousand years. If you want to become stronger, sooner or later you'll have to take part in a deadly battle."
Vyora gulped as shivers ran through her body. She knew better than anyone that she had no way to defend herself against the Dark Energy. She had seen countless times how the stronger monsters of their pillar used this type of energy, and every time it was terrifying.
Still, they weren't enemies, far from it, so gradually Adam's aura grew weaker until it faded completely.
"Gha!!!" Vyora took a deep breath as she took a few steps back.
"Khm."
A cough sounded from the side.
Adam turned around only to see Loargh standing next to them. His white robe was covered in blood, or rather, its wide hems were.
"I believe we should move on."
Behind them, nothing remained but a dozen craters that had already begun to fill with dust and sand, and the Red Scavengers, torn to pieces. Of some, only bloody stains remained.
Adam turned to the wall of swords.
"Yes. You're right."
