Dungeon Miner Slave
DMS Chapter 241
Flinx, Olivia, and Samuel’s parents, Bernard and Penelope, decided to walk to Olivia’s shop. Olivia had asked them if they wanted to take a carriage, but Penelope suggested that it would be better for them to walk since it would give them a chance to sightsee.
“Not only that, walking is healthy,” Penelope said while pointedly looking at her husband, who ignored her.
As they walked, Flinx thought about how strange his life and the lives of his friends had become. He was basically living an Isekai life.
Flinx was such an avid reader that there were times when he would be halfway through a new paperback or web novel before suddenly realizing that he had already read it.
He was one of those readers who didn’t mind when the stories he read were similar to others he had read before. He liked his preferred genres and didn’t care if the stories followed familiar patterns.
When he read L. E. Modesitt’s Spellsong Cycle, he treated it as though he were reading it for the first time, even though he had already read it when he was in middle school.
While he was ruminating on his love of fantasy novels, Flinx heard Penelope, Bernard, and Olivia talking about the shops they passed.
Olivia became excited when Samuel’s parents told her that they were planning to open a store that would sell products from their home kingdom.
Olivia told them about Flinx’s lack of interest in expanding her shop with more products from their home kingdom, even though the shop, which sold only three types of products, was already extremely lucrative.
Samuel’s parents had already visited Olivia’s shop and knew that the items she sold were scented soaps, scented candles, and mesh loofahs.
Penelope started telling Olivia about the different kinds of items that could be purchased using their access to the shops in their home kingdom, which basically meant she was referring to the Earthlings’ System Shopping Site.
Samuel’s mother started telling Olivia about the different kinds of beauty products available, and soon, they were talking about persuading Samuel to purchase some of those products later so Olivia could see them.
Flinx was a little absentminded, so the conversation eventually revealed that Samuel and Olivia had been in a relationship before.
Bernard and Penelope were surprised, and Olivia admitted that it was true.
She then told Samuel’s parents that the relationship had not even lasted a month because Samuel simply wasn’t ready to be in one at the time.
Samuel’s parents knew what had happened to their son and the other former dungeon miner slaves, so they understood how traumatic the experience had been. They knew it would probably be a while before any of those who were single would be ready for a relationship.
The funny part was that Penelope simply returned to talking about beauty products. Based on what Flinx could see, it was a subject very close to Olivia’s heart.
Soon, Olivia and Penelope were walking hand in hand while Flinx and Bernard trailed behind them.
“I still can’t get over the fact that you’re already sixty years old! You look younger than me!” Olivia suddenly said after a lull in their conversation about beauty products.
“You’ve seen what I look like before,” Penelope said.
Olivia admitted that she was a little grateful that the spell was probably extremely difficult to learn. Otherwise, beauty products would probably become obsolete.
Olivia then asked Flinx if it was common for wizards to learn a spell that could make someone young.
“No. A wizard would need to reach a very high level before they would be able to cast such a spell. Think of it as reaching Mythic rank as an adventurer,” Flinx answered.
“Mythic! But you’re only a Diamond-rank adventurer!” Olivia exclaimed.
Flinx simply smiled at her.
Once they arrived at Olivia’s shop, Flinx headed directly to the second floor so he could replenish the inventory with the products the shop specialized in. Bernard followed him, while Penelope and Olivia remained on the first floor to mingle with Olivia’s female customers.
All the customers downstairs were women. That was the main reason Bernard followed Flinx upstairs, since no man would feel comfortable surrounded by women discussing beauty products.
While Flinx was replenishing the shop’s inventory, Bernard asked him why he didn’t expand the shop’s selection of items.
Flinx admitted to Samuel’s father that it was simply because he felt lazy. The current products were already earning him a lot of gold coins, and he was satisfied with that.
He also told Bernard that having a limited selection allowed other merchants to avoid feeling threatened by the shop, which was one reason why the shop had not encountered any attempts at sabotage.
Bernard simply shook his head at Flinx and smiled.
What Flinx didn’t know was that Samuel had already told his parents that, with Flinx’s reputation as a powerful wizard, no sane person would attempt to sabotage Olivia’s shop. It was already well known that the shop was owned by Flinx.
The fact that the shop was also guarded by two powerful earth elementals was enough to deter common criminals.
Samuel had also told his parents that Flinx wasn’t aware there had been instances when people tried to rob Olivia’s shop. All of those attempts ended with someone being taken to a healer.
At least Flinx’s elementals hadn’t killed anyone yet, but everyone agreed that if any of Flinx’s charges’ lives were threatened, the Rockies would probably resort to killing.
Once Flinx finished replenishing the shop’s inventory, he and Bernard returned to the first floor to join Penelope.
Instead, they found her surrounded by women.
Flinx saw that Olivia looked exasperated, so he and Bernard approached her to ask what had happened.
Olivia told them that Penelope had admitted to the other ladies that she was already sixty-three years old and had retained her youth because of beauty products. She had even started telling everyone that she would bring samples of them the next day.
Bernard sighed and waded into the sea of women before dragging his wife away.
The ladies were startled when an old man suddenly appeared in their midst. The situation became even more awkward when Penelope announced that the old man was her husband and that the reason he looked so old was that he wasn’t using the beauty products she used.
Once they were outside the shop, Olivia hailed a carriage so they could return home. They needed to leave quickly because many of the women had followed them.
Inside the carriage, Penelope started apologizing.
“It simply got away from me. While talking to those women, I suddenly thought about opening a shop that sells beauty products like skincare and makeup. So I told them my age and that the reason I look so young is because of the products I’ve used. I thought it would be good advertising,” Penelope said with tears in her eyes.
“We don’t have a shop, and any beauty products you bring wouldn’t have the same effect as Flinx’s spell,” Bernard told his wife softly.
Flinx learned that Samuel’s mother was a bit of a scatterbrain.
Even though the situation had become chaotic, Flinx knew that Olivia would be able to calm things down.
What surprised Flinx was that Penelope had every intention of returning to Olivia’s shop the next day, bringing with her the beauty products she would ask her son to purchase for her.
Flinx was just glad that the situation wasn’t his problem.
It was Samuel and Bernard’s problem.
Once they returned, Flinx was greatly surprised when Penelope immediately rushed off to find her son. When she saw him, she dragged him toward their tower, while Bernard followed behind and began explaining the situation to Samuel.
