DMS Chapter 240

At the start of the four children’s wizard teachers testing his spellcasting abilities, Flinx made it clear that he would only consent to testing his Telepathy and Teleportation spells against the Mage Guild’s barriers.

At the very least, while the wizards were setting up the test, they allowed him to meet with David, Arcios, Keero, and Violet.

When the children arrived, they all looked extremely surprised, and the four of them rushed toward him. Apparently, they hadn’t been told whom they would be meeting.

“The snacks that you sent us were all so yummy!” Violet exclaimed.

“You’ve already eaten them all?!” Flinx asked with a startled expression.

“Of course not, silly. We just tasted a little of each,” Arcios said.

“Yes. We planned to make them last a long time,” Keero added.

Flinx inwardly laughed. More than likely, the snacks wouldn’t last for more than a few days.

“I’ll send packages to you once in a while,” Flinx promised.

“Why are you here? I thought you were traveling?” David asked.

“My friends from my country wanted to relocate to Ilioven together with their family members, and I was tasked with fetching all of them,” Flinx told them.

“Is it because you’re the only one who can cast the Teleport spell over such a long distance?” David asked.

Flinx was surprised by David’s question. He guessed that becoming student mages had allowed the children to learn many things related to spellcasting.

When Flinx admitted that it was indeed the case, David looked proud and sniffed loudly toward his friends, who all looked surly at David for one-upping them.

After that, they started telling Flinx about the things they had learned.

Flinx was glad that the children looked happy. He guessed that becoming student mages had been the right decision. They now all had promising futures, and he was glad that he had helped set them on the path toward those futures.

They also told him that they had already made friends with other student mages.

“Then you should share the snacks with your new friends,” Flinx told them.

The four children suddenly looked hesitant, and Flinx laughed.

He could see the internal battle between their greed for the snacks and their sense of obligation to share them with their friends.

“You don’t need to worry too much about the snacks. I told you, I’ll send more of them to you,” Flinx reiterated.

One of their teachers arrived to inform them that it was time for the testing to begin.

The four children complained, but their teacher told them that it was time for them to return to their studies.

The four children grumbled but obeyed, while Flinx shook his head with a smile.

He liked the fact that their teachers remained firm with them even in his presence.

The four children were orphans, and because of that, they had lived lives without much structure. They needed to learn how to follow rules and become more disciplined, as both qualities were necessary for wizards.

For the next three hours, Flinx was worked to the bone by the children’s teachers.

He must have cast the spells thousands of times.

The wizards were amazed by how he could cast both spells as many times as he wanted. After the third hour, Flinx told them that it was time for him to return home.

The wizards complained and wanted him to continue, but Flinx put his foot down.

They had already agreed on the time frame, and Flinx had actually been very patient with them, considering that they were the teachers responsible for his charges.

At least they admitted that they had managed to collect a substantial amount of data and would be able to use it to improve their barriers significantly.

Once the wizards realized that Flinx couldn’t be persuaded to stay any longer, they rushed off to conduct more experiments using the data they had collected.

Once Flinx was alone, he shrugged and used the Teleport spell to return to the compound.

He reappeared beside Pondy.

He was surprised to see people swimming in the lake.

Even though Pondy could make the water warm, it was still the middle of autumn, which made the surrounding air extremely cold.

Flinx understood that the novelty of having a sentient water elemental capable of doing whatever they commanded made swimming enjoyable.

Adonis, Luke, and Isaac’s laughter filled the air as Pondy tossed them high into the air with one of its watery arms before gently catching them.

Bernard was enjoying the massages Pondy was giving him, while Amelia, Penelope, and Susan were actively swimming deep inside the pond, observing the beautiful fish that glittered like jewels.

The fact that Pondy allowed them to breathe underwater was a new experience that they were now exploring.

Flinx was actually surprised by that. He hadn’t known that Pondy could grant people who swam in its pond the ability to breathe underwater.

When Andrew saw him, Flinx asked about the language teachers.

“The lessons were completed about an hour ago, and they all told me that they were satisfied with their teachers,” Andrew said while pointing toward the people swimming in the pond.

Andrew told him that from then on, there would be language lessons for around two hours every day. They would be held in the morning after breakfast.

“The teachers were extremely impressed with the tablets,” Andrew said with a laugh.

As they had agreed, after the lessons, Samuel showed the teachers recordings of the classes.

Both teachers were impressed to see themselves teaching their new students on the tablet screen.

Samuel was startled when they asked how much they would have to pay for the “magic board.”

Samuel had to explain how the tablets worked, including the fact that they needed to be charged.

The main issue, however, was that the tablet’s interface was in English, a language they didn’t know.

At least with the elven children, they could have someone cast the Tongue spell on them before they used their tablets or laptops or watched the movies he had given them.

Their aunt had even told them that she would teach them the spell so that, before long, they would be able to use their devices whenever they wanted.

Andrew then talked to Flinx about expanding the pond because there would soon be many more people staying at the compound.

Flinx agreed with him.

“Do you think Pondy could handle a larger pond on its own, or should I summon a second Pondy to help?” Flinx asked.

“Why don’t you ask it?” Andrew replied.

Flinx agreed and went over to the pond. He asked Pondy if it wanted another water elemental to help manage a larger pond.

The elemental conveyed to him that the decision was his, but Pondy informed him that it could handle a body of water four times larger than the current pond it was managing.

Since Pondy didn’t seem to need any help, Flinx decided to leave things as they were.

Besides, he might need all of his summon slots in the future since his friends would need powerful summons to keep them safe while they delved into dungeons.

When noon arrived, everyone left the pond to eat the food the servants had prepared for them.

When the cook arrived with more food, Flinx told him that there would soon be more people at the compound and asked whether he would need additional help.

The cook said that if the number of people increased, it was inevitable that more help would be needed.

Flinx decided to leave that issue to Olivia.

While they were all enjoying their food, Olivia arrived to inform them that the purchase of the neighboring land had been completed.

Flinx asked Olivia to hire people to clear the land, including the mansion located on it.

He told her that she could use the gold coins he had stored in the chest in his room if she needed additional funds.

Olivia simply nodded.

After lunch, Olivia reminded Flinx that it was time for him to refill the shop’s inventory.

Since Amelia and Adonis would be taught how to drive by Samuel and Arnel, Bernard and Penelope decided to accompany Flinx and Olivia to Olivia’s shop.

They wanted to learn more about how local businesses operated.

Susan planned to do some more shopping, so Andrew and his two sons would need to accompany them.
