DMS Chapter 228

Flinx was greatly surprised by what was happening to his friends back on Earth. It had only been a few days since he had last spoken with them through their chat system, and everything had been fine then. Now, they were suddenly dealing with a situation that made them feel like mutants from the X-Men movies.

“It isn’t as bad as that, but since Oscar, Rico, Chen, and Ferdinand suddenly stopped responding in the chat, we thought there was a chance that they were being held captive by someone,” Paul sent.

“It isn’t a coincidence that the four of them were non-Americans, so there’s a good chance that ICE captured them for violating immigration laws,” Samuel said.

“Thankfully, we haven’t detected anyone spying on us or anything like that, but we’re hardly expecting to detect such a thing,” Mark said.

“We’ve decided to hold a birthday party, and we planned to gather everyone so you can start bringing us to Ilioven,” Edward said.

Basically, all of them were now prepared to return to Ilioven. Because of the magic items they possessed and what had happened to the four people who had suddenly gone missing, they had convinced their family members that it was time for them to move.

Paul and Mark admitted that most of them had frightened their family members by telling them about the possibility that they could all be captured by the government and experimented on simply because of the magic items they had brought back from the other world.

Their family members believed them because they had witnessed the miraculous things those magic items were capable of doing.

Paul told Flinx that they were still in the process of putting the plan together, but they wanted him to be ready at all times.

That meant it was time for Flinx to pause his journey.

For a brief moment, Flinx felt an overwhelming sadness.

Not only had the doctor treating him betrayed them, but his healing journey would now have to be put on hold.

He had genuinely believed that Dr. Mendez would be able to help him heal from his mental trauma. Combined with everything else he had been doing to recover, he had thought that he was finally on the road to healing.

After a while, Flinx sighed.

He initially selected a place in the forest where he could create a landmark that he could memorize, allowing him to teleport back to the location and continue his journey after he finished helping his friends on Earth.

On second thought, however, he decided to simply return to Ilioven.

Once everything was settled, he could restart his journey in a different direction.

That decision meant that he would probably never see Elemendora and Arementil again.

At least, not for a long time.

He would no longer be able to continue his journey toward the kingdom of Neverwise, and there was little chance that he would somehow meet the two children again. The chances of his arrival in Neverwise coinciding with their return to the kingdom with their aunt were simply too small.

Flinx didn’t wait any longer and returned to Ilioven.

It was still early in the day, so the only people in the compound were the servants.

He called one of the servants who was busy sweeping fallen leaves and told him that he wanted to speak with the butler and the head cook.

Flinx waited for them in the seating area beside Pondy.

When they arrived, he informed them that he was back and that his other friends would soon be returning as well, together with their family members.

The news galvanized the butler and the cook.

The return of Flinx’s friends and their families meant that they wouldn’t have to worry about the compound’s lack of activity leaving them unemployed.

Flinx could see the relief on their faces.

He knew that they liked living in the compound because neither he nor Olivia was particularly strict with them. More than likely, if Olivia had been left to manage the household on her own, she would have treated the servants more like the other nobles and wealthy merchants did.

However, because she followed Flinx’s lead and treated them casually, she had gradually become much the same as him.

Flinx also told Olivia to make sure that the servants’ pay continued without interruption.

After the servants left, Flinx considered informing Olivia about the upcoming upheaval but decided to wait until she and her brothers returned that evening.

In the meantime, Flinx kept his chat window open so he would immediately know when it was time to fetch his friends from Earth.

When he asked them, they told him that the earliest he could start bringing people from Earth to Ilioven would probably be the following day.

The initial plan was for those traveling first to Ilioven to gather near the park that Flinx used as his teleportation point.

Thankfully, Dr. Mendez didn’t know about that location. He was only aware of the alley where Flinx usually brought him back to Earth.

Everyone was also glad that Flinx could teleport up to thirteen people by using a higher-level spell slot.

After that, Flinx went to his room in the tower and waited for the signal from his friends.

While waiting, he tried to pass the time by watching movies or reading novels, but he couldn’t concentrate on either.

Eventually, he decided to swim in Pondy to take his mind off everything and relax.

Thankfully, Pondy could keep the swimming pool warm.

The problem was that Flinx still couldn’t relax.

It would have been better if he could return to Earth and actively participate in whatever was happening there, but he couldn’t do that. Remaining on Earth for more than three hours would allow Earth to remove his transmigration system.

Since nothing could take his mind off what was happening to his friends, Flinx decided to plan which spells he could use if he needed to do something drastic, such as rescuing his friends within a very short period of time.

Flinx didn’t want to cause any extreme chaos, so he thought the best spells he could use were Illusion and Enchantment spells.

Illusion spells such as Minor Illusion and Major Illusion could confuse people, while Enchantment spells such as Charm Person and Fast Friends could allow him to manipulate people without causing serious harm.

By the time evening arrived, Olivia, Ambrose, and Christopher were surprised to see that Flinx was back.

He told them that his friends had encountered trouble in their homeland and that, more than likely, starting the following day, he would have to bring them and their family members to Ilioven.

That meant the compound would become lively again.

The difference this time was that there would be many more people since his friends would be bringing their families with them.

It also meant that his journey had to be put on hold because he would need to remain at the compound.

While they were eating the food prepared by the cook, Olivia asked about what would happen once Flinx’s friends returned.

“More than likely, the compound will be filled with towers again. We might have to try to buy more land since there’s a chance we’ll need more living space. Can you check whether we can purchase some of our neighbors’ land?” Flinx asked.

“I’ll work on it tomorrow,” Olivia replied.

In the meantime, Flinx asked Ambrose and Christopher about their studies.

Christopher told Flinx that he was now working at his master’s restaurant. Once he had gained enough experience, he planned to open a restaurant of his own.

Olivia had already promised him that she would fund the purchase of his restaurant, but that was still years in the future since Christopher admitted that he needed much more time to master his craft.

Ambrose told him that he had started delving into one of the Copper-level dungeons together with his classmates.

The dungeon contained relatively weak monsters such as slimes and goblins, but even so, everyone still faced dangers that could potentially threaten their lives.

Flinx asked Ambrose if he needed any powerful magic items since he still had plenty of them lying around in his fourth tab space.

Ambrose declined.

His instructor wouldn’t allow him to use such powerful equipment.
