Chapter 626: Lavinia Dragonborn.
Chapter 626: Lavinia Dragonborn.
"WE WILL NOT LOSE!!"
"WE WILL NOT LOSE!!"
The chants became stronger, the battlefield was shifting, every soldier, every leader could see that.
"I still can’t believe it..."
So could the Sky Kingdom prisoners and... they couldn’t believe their eyes.
"So this is Lavinia Dragonborn...
The Magic Genius even Xenthalor envied."
Another one muttered with a somewhat lost look on her face.
"She changed the course of the battle with a single spell..."
"And to think Drakthar abandoned her...
Just... what were they thinking...?"
"I have no idea..."
Another sighed.
"But where is she?"
That was when one of the soldiers questioned as he began looking around. The Alliance Troops did not question it because they were too busy fighting, thinking Lavinia was somewhere else on the battlefield.
But the Sky Kingdom people, who were only watching the battle play out, were quick to notice it.
Lavinia wasn’t here.
"She’s hiding inside the Command Structure."
Aurelia answered, looking in a particular direction.
"She’s... hiding...?"
"She’s a Mage, you want her to fight on the frontline?"
A soldier snapped.
"Not the frontline... but aren’t mages usually present at the back?"
"That is when the frontline and the shield lines are capable enough to protect them. Look at them, they are barely surviving on their own, how are they going to protect her?"
"Still...
It is strange..."
He couldn’t help but say it out loud.
"If the Alliance Army found out that the woman who had led them together with Kael is now hiding when the enemy is at the Gate—
Their reaction won’t be good, no matter what the reason is.
After all, other mages are all participating in the battle as well."
The rest of the Sky Kingdom soldiers, even Aurelia looked at him. He paused, not understanding their odd reaction. Then, one of the soldiers pointed at the battlefield in front—
"Do you see those vines?"
She asked.
"Yes."
"You think ’other mages’ can do that?"
"..."
This time, he turned silent.
The answer to the question was obvious.
"Lavinia Dragonborn is not like other Mages. Her single spell has changed the course of the battlefield. The Shield Lines that were about to be breached have now been reinforced. She has done more for the battlefield than any of those Mages present there."
Then suddenly, she thought of another thing and her eyes shined—
"General."
She called out with her eyes shining brightly, Aurelia looked at her and—
"I understand that we can’t participate in the battle but—
Can’t we protect her?"
Aurelia narrowed her eyes at those words.
"She is hiding, so she isn’t exactly participating in the battle. If we stand around her and the enemies approach, we can take care of them and it won’t be counted as participating in the battle since we would only be protecting ourselves from mindless men who charged at us.
Not to mention if we do move to protect her, even if she ultimately doesn’t need our help, it would form a good image in front of Lord Kael, no?"
She suggested and the instant she did—
Aurelia’s expression changed.
The rest of the Sky Kingdom Soldiers, especially the Mages, looked at her with their eyes shining with excitement.
They wanted to go.
Not only did they want to protect her to win Kael’s favour, they also wanted to see it with their own eyes.
Lavinia’s Magic.
Magic that only targets the enemies.
They wanted to see the Circles she used, they wanted to understand how that Magic worked, they wanted to see every single thing.
And Aurelia—
When she saw the shine in her soldiers’ eyes—
"That can be done."
She gave in.
Well, partially because she too wanted to move. Not only to gain Kael’s favour but also because she too wanted her soldiers, especially the Mages, to see Lavinia’s Magic.
It was a rare opportunity to see an expert who was recognised by the entire world at work. Although she knew none of her soldiers would be able to understand that magic, she hoped it would help them in some way.
Plus, the woman was correct.
They were only defending themselves, not participating in the War.
Aurelia grinned at that thought.
And with that—
"Let’s move."
She commanded.
"As you command, General!"
The soldiers nodded and they moved.
Within minutes, they had already surrounded the commanding post Lavinia was hiding in. They obviously couldn’t be with her, since that would make it too obvious, which might be questioned in the future.
However, they could still be near her, saying they were only investigating the people who imprisoned them before finally running away.
Once the Sky Kingdom Soldiers were here, Aurelia stepped forward and called all the mages—
"Amelia, Charlette, Evelyn, Sophie, Daniel and Lucas."
"Yes General."
The six soldiers stepped forward, answering her call.
"Energy fluctuations are coming from that post, investigate it.
Remember, you are not to involve yourself with whatever’s happening. You will not go inside, you will not interrupt in any way—
You will only watch.
And in case you are attacked—
You are free to defend yourselves.
Is that clear?"
Aurelia ordered.
The soldiers heard those words and grinned.
"Yes General."
Then, they saluted and moved towards Lavinia’s room with their eyes burning with curiosity. Of course, they kept their movements light, not wanting to alert Lavinia and disrupt her spell.
Then, once they were near her command post, they slowly walked towards the window, Evelyn was the first, as someone who defended Lavinia the most, other soldiers believed she had the right to watch first.
However, the moment Evelyn peeked through the window—
Her eyes widened in horror.
Lavinia was standing at the center of seven magic circles carved into the ground, her face was pale, her hands were trembling, there was blood dripping out of her nose, her breathing was uneven, but her eyes—
Her eyes were steady, looking straight ahead, almost as if she could see the entire battlefield from up here.
Evelyn and then the other mages who came couldn’t believe their eyes.
But then—
"Why are you here?"
Lavinia asked a question.
Evelyn and others frowned.
She sensed them in that state...?
What?
Or... was she talking to someone else?
They wondered in their heads but then—
"I am talking to you, Mages from the Sky Kingdom."
And the Mages blinked.
This woman... could she read their minds?
