Chapter 391: Chapter 391
There were quite a few bloodstains of varying sizes on Mark’s body, most of them belonging to Nate. He himself had barely been injured.
At least, that was what Mark initially thought. Until he felt a faint, stinging pain around his waist and abdomen.
He turned his head and looked down at his side.
The fabric there had been torn open, the edges stained with dark red blood. The wound wasn’t particularly deep, but it was still slowly oozing blood.
He pressed a hand against it. His fingertips touched the damp fabric, his movements gentle as he assessed how deep the wound was.
Suzy had been concentrating on driving, but she caught the movement from the corner of her eye and immediately slammed on the brakes.
The sudden stop startled Mark.
He lifted his head and looked ahead in confusion. "What’s wrong?"
"You’re hurt. Why didn’t you say anything?" Suzy unfastened her seat belt, turned sideways, and leaned closer to him.
"I... I only just noticed." Mark sounded a little embarrassed.
By now, the RV had already traveled some distance and was far from Nate’s territory. They didn’t have to worry about retaliation for the time being.
"Let me see." Suzy looked at Mark.
Mark glanced up at her and said softly, "It’s fine. It’s not that deep."
"Let me see." Suzy was insistent.
Seeing how serious she looked, Mark finally gave in. He turned sideways, lifted the hem of his shirt slightly, and exposed the injury to her.
Suzy narrowed her eyes. "It’s pretty serious. It needs to be treated properly. Let’s go to the back."
She pointed toward the rear of the RV and climbed over first.
Opening a drawer, she took out the medical kit, which was packed with all kinds of medicine.
Without making a sound, Suzy added some diluted spiritual spring water to it.
By the time she had everything ready, Mark had also come over. He obediently sat down on the sofa, gazing out the window.
"Take off your shirt."
Suzy’s voice suddenly broke through the silence. Mark snapped back to reality, his expression momentarily blank.
Suzy explained, "Your clothes are already dirty, and it’ll be difficult to treat the wound with them on."
"Oh..."
Only then did Mark understand. He obediently removed his shirt.
The young man’s solid, well-built body was exposed to the air. His skin was so pale it almost seemed to gleam. Suzy’s attention wandered for a brief moment before she quickly composed herself.
She knelt in front of Mark, unscrewed the cap of the iodine solution, and folded a piece of gauze in her hands.
"It might hurt a little. You can handle it, right?" she asked.
Mark looked amused and helpless at the same time. "I’m not a child."
Suzy soaked the gauze with the spiritual spring water and pressed it directly against his waist.
Mark’s face instantly contorted.
"Bear with it," Suzy said.
She first cleaned the wound with the gauze soaked in spiritual spring water. Once it was mostly clean, she opened the iodine solution and carefully disinfected the wound.
"If it hurts, tell me. I’ll be gentler," Suzy said.
"It doesn’t hurt."
After saying that, Mark pressed his lips tightly together.
Suzy glanced up at him but said nothing, continuing to tend to his wound.
Soon, the disinfection was finished.
After cleaning the wound thoroughly, Suzy began wrapping it with gauze.
As she wound the gauze around Mark’s waist, her fingers occasionally brushed against his skin. Every touch was light.
They were tiny, almost insignificant movements, yet she could clearly feel Mark’s body stiffening each time.
Suzy suddenly felt a little awkward herself and quickened her movements.
She didn’t realize that rushing made mistakes more likely.
Her finger accidentally grazed the wound.
Mark’s face went pale as he sucked in a sharp breath.
Suzy immediately looked up, nervous. "I’m sorry... I-I didn’t mean to."
The pain was still within a tolerable range. Mark said quietly, "I’m fine. Keep going."
"Really?"
"Mm."
Once she was certain he wasn’t pretending, Suzy continued wrapping the gauze around his wound.
This time, she didn’t rush. Her movements were slow and careful.
Perhaps a little too careful, at least from Mark’s perspective.
He sat rigidly still, almost like a statue.
Only then did he realize how close he and Suzy were.
Far too close.
All he had to do was lower his head slightly, and he could catch the faint, distinctive fragrance lingering on her. It was subtle, yet somehow enough to make his heart itch.
This was the first time Mark had ever been this close to someone.
The unfamiliar sensation made him uncomfortable. Instinctively, he wanted to pull away, to resist it.
"Are you done yet?"
Without realizing it, his voice carried a hint of impatience.
Suzy caught the meaning immediately and hurriedly replied, "Almost."
She quickly finished wrapping the gauze and tied it off before putting some distance between them.
"All done. Is it too tight?" Suzy asked.
Mark carefully tested the bandage and shook his head. "No. It’s just right."
Suzy smiled at him. "Good. Then sit here and rest for a while. You can also lie down in the back if you want. I’m going to get back to driving."
Lying down in the back would be much more comfortable than sitting in the passenger seat. Given Mark’s injury, it would be better for him to lie down so he wouldn’t strain the wound and risk making it worse.
Mark looked at her.
For some reason, Suzy’s smile seemed almost dazzling at that moment.
So dazzling that he instinctively wanted to look away.
And he did exactly that, turning his gaze aside and staring stiffly out the window.
Suzy didn’t notice any of this.
After speaking with Mark, she returned directly to the driver’s seat and started driving.
Once the RV was moving again, Mark went to the back and lay down.
The pillow and blanket still carried the faint scent of Suzy. She must have lain here before, because the fragrance had lingered surprisingly well.
Mark stared at the ceiling, his thoughts drifting.
Nate’s accusation kept replaying in his mind.
You’ve fallen in love with her?
Had he?
Who could he possibly be in love with?
Suzy?
