Chapter 389: Chapter 389
"Putting on an act, are we? Whether I can take you or not, we’ll find out once we try," Nate sneered.
He raised his hand again, bringing down a second punch with a whistle of wind. The power behind it was even heavier than the first, clearly aiming to crush his opponent with pure brute force.
As a Descendant, his physical traits were vastly superior to the likes of Suzy.
Not only was he immune to the pain and trauma of bullets, but his strength was several times that of an ordinary human.
In Nate’s eyes, he held the absolute upper hand—what was Mark compared to him?
"One punch from me will smash your head to pieces," Nate grinned wickedly.
"Let’s see you try, then," Mark replied, his tone remaining dead calm.
He didn’t attempt to take Nate’s fist head-on. Sidestepping to the side, the fist brushed past his shoulder, the sheer air pressure rustling the hem of his clothes.
Before Nate could even recover his posture, Mark had already latched onto his wrist, his thumb pressing with precise force onto his acupressure point. The force wasn’t massive, yet it made Nate’s arm drop limply, as if all its strength had been instantly drained away.
Nate’s expression twisted in a fraction of a second.
He tried to break free, but Mark’s grip was clamped onto his joint like an iron vise.
"Dammit! Get off!"
Nate screamed, swinging his other fist violently toward Mark’s face. Anticipating the move, Mark ducked effortlessly, releasing his grip at the same time.
Immediately after, he followed the momentum and shoved a palm into the hollow of Nate’s shoulder.
The hit didn’t carry heavy force, but the angle was incredibly tricky—Nate stumbled backward half a step, his center of gravity teetering momentarily.
"Damn it!"
Nate scrambled to stabilize his footing, refraining from lunging forward again right away. His eyes lingered on Mark for a second, clearly realizing that he was dealing with an extremely tough opponent.
"Why stopped?" Mark asked mildly.
Compared to Nate, Mark appeared far more composed. He stood steadily, his breathing even without a hint of panting, as though the exchange just now had been nothing more than a simple warm-up.
Nate’s face contorted once more. To him, Mark’s words were no different from a blatant provocation.
This damn bastard—I underestimated him.
So what? Mark dies today! He MUST die by my hands!
Rage caused the depths of Nate’s eyes to gradually turn blood-red. He glared at Mark like a starving ghoul staring at its prey, ready to tear him to shreds the very next second.
"Don’t get too arrogant—this is just the beginning," Nate spat out a harsh threat.
He actively created distance, circling Mark by a few paces as if searching for an opening.
Mark remained rooted to the spot without moving an inch, merely tilting his head slightly to keep Nate firmly within his field of view.
"Why aren’t you making a move?" Mark urged with a subtle smile.
Off to the side, Suzy watched them locked in combat. She raised her gun several times, yet never pulled the trigger.
Nate and Mark were too close to each other, tangling back and forth constantly. Suzy couldn’t take a clean shot, terrified of accidentally striking Mark.
Finally, an opportunity presented itself.
Suzy raised her firearm, aiming straight at Nate’s head. Mark caught this in his peripheral vision and shook his head gently at her.
Suzy froze—he’s telling me not to shoot?
Mark mouthed a few words to her, and Suzy read his lips instantly.
He said: I’ll handle it.
Suzy hesitated for two seconds before ultimately lowering her gun.
It was during this brief moment of hesitation that she lost her window to kill Nate, leaving her with no choice but to rely on Mark.
Suzy kept her eyes glued in their direction, wanting to see what Mark actually planned to do.
Over there, Nate waited for a long time, but Mark never initiated an attack—he stood there like a statue. Unable to hold back any longer, Nate charged forward once again.
This time, he abandoned all feints, slamming his shoulder directly toward Mark’s chest, attempting to overwhelm him with his body weight.
However, the instant before impact, Mark side-stepped and guided the force along. Failing to curb his momentum, Nate’s entire body tipped sideways.
Without waiting for him to recover his balance, Mark pressed a palm onto the middle of his spine. The strike looked light, yet it was enough to make Nate completely lose his footing.
Nate stumbled forward several paces before barely stabilizing himself. Gasping heavily, he turned around and glared angrily at Mark, "Have you trained in martial arts?!"
Mark said nothing, taking a step forward.
Seeing this, Nate immediately took half a step back. Only now did he realize how ridiculously troublesome this Mark guy was—far more troublesome than he had initially thought.
Still, I can take him down. It’ll just take a bit more time, Nate remained confident.
Just as his mind drifted for a split second, Mark had already closed into his strike zone, raising a fist and throwing a blow.
"Ugh! You fucking snuck up on me!!"
Mark’s fist struck Nate directly in the ribs. The force was controlled with extreme precision—not enough to inflict heavy injury, but it hurt like hell.
Nate screamed out, his eyes looking as if he wanted to cut Mark into a thousand pieces.
This damn bastard only knows how to land cheap shots!
Mark couldn’t be bothered to pay him any mind. "You’re trying to kill me, and you expect me to show you courtesy?"
With that, he struck out again. His second punch landed cleanly on Nate’s shoulder blade, immediately followed by a third!
This third punch struck Nate squarely on his cheekbone with even greater force than the previous two, knocking him completely dazed. Swaying on his feet, he crumpled onto the ground in an utterly pathetic heap.
Nate felt his head buzzing in total confusion.
When on earth had Mark struck? He hadn’t seen it coming at all—Mark was simply too fast.
Who on earth is he?
Nate racked his brain, but had no recollection of the name. Or had he misremembered?
He now felt immense regret for not thoroughly checking the world’s background before arriving, failing to memorize all the male leads’ names.
Before coming here, the higher-ups had warned that if Suzy was together with any of the male leads, they had to be extra cautious. Outsiders like them were no match for the fortunate sons of destiny in this world.
Other than that, given their physical traits and abilities, dealing with ordinary people in this world was supposed to be a total, absolute crush.
After all, even though this world had endured several natural disasters, ordinary humans remained ordinary humans without any change.
So where did this anomaly in front of him come from?
Nate lay paralyzed on the ground, his vision blurred, the entire world spinning around him.
Mark’s recent blow was by no means light—he felt like he had been beaten into a concussion, making it impossible to think clearly.
And Mark gave him no opportunity to do so either. Stepping up to him, he hauled him up from the ground by his collar and began raining blows on his face.
Left and right, punch after punch—the sound alone was painful to hear.
Nate was completely beaten senseless. Already disoriented by the previous hit, he was now subjected to a violent beating that destroyed any remaining capacity to think.
His cheeks swelled up at a speed visible to the naked eye. What was once a decent-looking face had now swollen into a bruised pig’s head, presenting a truly miserable sight.
"Still feel like acting tough?" Mark finally stopped, his voice low and eerie.
Nate barely managed to open his swollen eyes. Through the hazy mist of blood, he saw Mark’s face wearing a sinister smile.
Yes, sinister.
It was even tinged with a streak of madness.
There was even an excited glint flashing in the depths of his eyes fueled by his suffering.
A surge of chill shot straight up from the soles of Nate’s feet to his scalp, as the terror of death gradually welled up from deep within his heart.
He... what kind of freak had he provoked?
