Chapter 806: Chapter 794: Little Detective Solving Cases (24)

Archie Lockwood had thought Rory would be delighted to hear this, so he raised a skeptical eyebrow. "What? You’re not happy? Didn’t you want your dad to marry someone else?"

"I’m happy! As long as you don’t get me a stepmother, I’m happy!" Shirley Lockwood quickly slapped on a bright smile, hugging Archie’s arm with a guilty conscience.

She tactfully didn’t ask any more questions this time, knowing that no matter how much she pried, her dad would never tell her the truth.

Over the years, it wasn’t as if she hadn’t tried to find out about her biological mother. But every attempt had ultimately resulted in a harsh scolding from him. So, she would have to investigate on her own to find out if the truth matched her suspicions.

St. Azure Academy.

Shirley slumped over her desk, looking utterly listless.

Her dad was certainly a man of his word. He had said he wouldn’t get married, and he truly meant it. It had been half a month, and that beautiful lady hadn’t made a single appearance. Even if Shirley wanted to investigate, she had no leads to follow.

Evan Grayson glanced at the person sitting beside him. He wondered if she had been slumped over her desk like that all morning without getting up once.

At that thought, Evan’s handsome brows furrowed slightly. His expression remained unchanged as he asked in a seemingly casual but cold voice, "Shirley Lockwood, did you come to school just to sleep? If so, you might as well pack up your books and go sleep at home."

"None of your damn business!" Already in a foul mood, Shirley slapped the desk and shot to her feet at her desk mate’s nosy remark.

"It certainly is none of my business. I just don’t want to share a desk with such an ignorant and incompetent girl!"

"Is that so? Well, I don’t want to share a desk with such an arrogant and conceited guy, either!" Refusing to show any weakness, Shirley glared fiercely at Evan.

Evan’s expression darkened. He cast a bland look at her, lowered his head, pursed his lips, and said coldly, "What an ill-bred girl."

"Evan Grayson, do you have a death wish?! Or do you want to fight me one-on-one?!" She didn’t know what had gotten into her head to let a momentary burst of competitiveness make her choose to sit next to him!

Evan neatly arranged the textbook in his hands. He looked up, meeting her fiery gaze, and said with complete seriousness, "A gentleman doesn’t fight a lady! However, looking at you, you hardly seem like a proper girl anyway. You barely count as half a boy. If you really want a duel, it’s not entirely out of the question..."

The remark about being "half a boy" instantly and thoroughly enraged Shirley. She grabbed Evan by the collar, glaring viciously as she threatened through gritted teeth, "Evan Grayson, do you know why I transferred to this school?"

"Why?" Evan wasn’t intimidated by her ferocity in the slightest. He curved his lips into a smile and asked calmly.

"Because there were some reckless idiots who kept saying that I was ill-bred and didn’t have a mother. So, I took it upon myself to teach them a lesson."

"Oh... is that so?"

By now, the commotion between them had attracted the attention of the other students in the classroom.

Evan was already a legendary figure in their class! Not only was he incredibly handsome, but his family’s wealth was virtually immeasurable. As for his school grades—he ranked first in the entire grade! Even though he was merely an elementary school student, he had already accompanied the teachers to attend classes in the upper grades on numerous occasions.

This was likely the very definition of a boy genius.

And there was no need to even mention Shirley; on her very first day at the school, she had shocked the entire class. Her appearance had left all the boys deeply infatuated and all the girls burning with envy and jealousy. The boys were excited because a little beauty had joined the class, while the girls were envious because Shirley had become Evan’s desk mate.

"Oh my god, look! Shirley is so scary. She actually dared to grab our Young Master!"

"Yeah, our Young Master is just too good-tempered, which is why he keeps getting bullied by this Shirley girl."

"Exactly! Just look at her. You can tell at a glance that she’s a wild, ill-bred brat."

"Who says she isn’t? The moment she joined our class, she monopolized our Young Master. She’s obviously just after his family’s money."

"Makes sense."

Such were the murmurs among the female students.

The discussions among the male students, however, were much more amusing.

"Look! The snobby Young Master of our class is actually getting bullied by the new girl."

"Hahaha, this is interesting. Who do you think will win if they actually fight?"
