Chapter 805: Chapter 793: Case-Solving Little Detective (23)

Hearing what Howard Rhodes said, Eleanor Bishop stopped resisting.

However, being carried by another man like this still made her uncomfortable.

After Howard carried Eleanor out the door, a bedroom door near the stairs on the second floor quietly cracked open.

Shirley Lockwood walked out, her delicate brows knitted in utter confusion.

She looked at the empty living room, her frown deepening.

She wondered if she had ever actually doubted the pretty lady’s identity before.

After getting out of the car, she had run upstairs in a huff. She felt a little guilty about ignoring Shannon, and knowing there was bound to be a clash of love rivals soon, coupled with the crying and shouting outside, she had secretly opened her door to eavesdrop.

Although what she heard wasn’t of much use...

It was roughly about Shannon driving the pretty lady away, which made her dad very angry.

But what happened next took a completely unexpected turn.

It was the conversation between her dad and the pretty lady after Shannon left.

The pretty lady knew her dad used to be called Archie Summers?

Strange as it sounded, she had never been suspicious of the pretty lady.

Her dad treated the pretty lady so specially. He had promised her he wouldn’t marry a stepmother, yet he asked her to call the pretty lady "Mom" and specifically instructed her to treat her well. All of this seemed incredibly suspicious.

"Why have I never doubted her?" she asked herself. "Why?

"Could she possibly be my..."

At this thought, Shirley’s little face drained of color because the possibility seemed very high.

When they first met, the pretty lady had left a deep impression on her by calling her by her nickname, Rory. It had felt extraordinarily warm and familiar at the time.

That was why she couldn’t help but go up and talk to her.

"If the pretty lady really is my mom, then it seems I’ve done a lot of things I shouldn’t have..." she thought.

With this on her mind, Shirley turned deathly pale and sprinted downstairs in a panic.

Just as she reached the ground floor, Archie Lockwood came back from outside. He frowned at her flustered state and called out coldly, "Rory!"

"Dad!" Startled by Archie’s sudden return, Shirley froze in her tracks, not daring to move an inch.

"Where are you going?"

"Dad, I... I..." Shirley clutched her clothes anxiously, not knowing how to voice her doubts.

If she asked him, would he tell her?

Seeing her awkward demeanor, Archie’s frown deepened. "Are you still mad?"

"No. I’m sorry, Dad..."

Hearing her apology and seeing her looking so aggrieved and insecure, Archie’s heart softened. He walked over to her and said in a low voice, "I told you a long time ago that no one and nothing could ever be more important than you. So, don’t be mad at me, and don’t hate me. I promise I won’t get you a stepmother."

"Huh? Dad, you..."

Archie smiled bitterly and said coldly, "I’ve decided not to marry that woman. You can rest easy now."

"No, Dad, why are you suddenly not getting married anymore?" Although she had overheard most of it earlier, hearing it straight from her dad’s mouth still gave her a terrible shock.

If that woman was truly her biological mother, wouldn’t her dad’s decision mean she was losing her mom all over again?
