Chapter 716: Chapter 704: Marrying a Rich Man (7)
Eleanor Bishop shuddered violently at Owen Miller’s words.
She didn’t know if she was shuddering from the pain or from the fear that Archie Lockwood would misunderstand.
Upon hearing Owen Miller, a look of grim confirmation crossed Archie Lockwood’s face.
And yet, as if needing to hear it for himself, he looked down at the woman on the floor. "Is what he said true?"
"No! I’m not with him. I only just met him today. He’s... he’s a blind date my mom set me up with." Eleanor Bishop hadn’t expected Archie Lockwood to speak to her at all, and she shook her head, sobbing out her reply.
The sneer on Archie Lockwood’s lips deepened. "Heh, you just met today?" ’Met for the first time and she ends up beaten like this?’
And yet, for some reason, hearing that she wasn’t this man’s girlfriend made him breathe a secret sigh of relief.
’Why?’ he wondered.
’Maybe it’s just because I don’t want my daughter’s biological mother to embarrass me...’
"You bitch, don’t you forget, your mother took three hundred thousand yuan from me! Your old hag of a mother sold you to me, and you still dare say you’re not my woman? I’ll fucking kill you!" Owen Miller roared, raising his foot to kick Eleanor Bishop.
Just as the kick was about to land on Eleanor Bishop, Archie Lockwood’s brow furrowed, and he barked, "Stop!"
"You’re a fucking busybody! I already told you, her mother sold her to me."
A cold smile touched Archie Lockwood’s thin lips. "It’s just three hundred thousand, isn’t it?" he said, his voice dangerously low. "I’ll give you a million."
"A million? Fine. You give me a million, and I’ll let the woman go!" ’With that kind of money, it’s not like I need this specific bitch anyway.’
Archie Lockwood took a check out of his wallet. "A check for one million."
"Heh, you bitch. So that’s why you wouldn’t have me. You already hooked a bigger fish," Owen Miller sneered, snatching the check.
Archie Lockwood didn’t try to stop him, simply watching as Owen Miller stuffed the check into his pocket.
Just as Owen Miller started humming a tune and turned to leave, Archie Lockwood’s lips curled into a cold smile. "You’ve taken the check. That means the two of you have nothing to do with each other now."
"Of course. I’m a man of my word," Owen Miller said, tilting his head back disdainfully.
"And since you two have nothing to do with each other... I can’t let you leave." As he spoke, Archie Lockwood walked over to Eleanor Bishop, bent down, and helped her up from the floor.
Eleanor Bishop’s heart pounded with anxiety. ’What does he mean?’
Just as she was wrestling with her unease, she heard Archie Lockwood say, "You beat her to this state and think you can just walk away? You must be dreaming."
"Fuck! What the hell are you trying to say?" Owen Miller roared, whipping his head around to face Archie Lockwood.
’This was the first time anyone had ever threatened him like this. Usually, people took one look at him—Owen Miller—and knew to steer clear and not cause trouble.’
"For every time you hit her, I’m going to hit you back ten times."
"Fuck you! A pretty boy like you thinks you can hit me?" Owen Miller snarled, clenching his fist and swinging at Archie Lockwood.
Archie Lockwood shot a cold glance at Eleanor Bishop. "Stay still!"
Her eyes red with tears, Eleanor Bishop softly murmured, "Okay."
The word had barely left her lips when Archie Lockwood released her, raising a hand to catch Owen Miller’s fist and simultaneously driving a kick into his stomach.
Owen Miller grunted in pain, his entire face contorting in agony.
Archie Lockwood grabbed Owen Miller by the collar and drove a fist into his face.
