Chapter 703: Chapter 695: Marriage Proposal (10)

’Any other woman given this much money would probably throw herself into Leo Joyce’s arms and cling to him for dear life. But he... he’d just casually given it to her as a birthday gift?’

It would be a lie to say she wasn’t moved. In fact, her heart ached terribly.

’Why is he so good to me? I’m sure there are countless women in the world far better than I am...’

"Why are you crying?" The sight of Tiana’s tears sent a jolt of panic through Leo Joyce.

"Leo, why are you so good to me? The truth is, I’m not that great."

"What nonsense are you talking about? Of course I should be good to you, you silly girl. Stop crying. Do you want to break my heart?" ’All he wanted was to share his success with her, for her to celebrate and be happy with him.’

’If he hadn’t done what he did back then, she could have been there to see his success with her own eyes, instead of just seeing this cold, impersonal bankbook now.’

His heart aching, Leo Joyce gently wiped her tears away. "If you’re already crying now," he said softly, "how are you going to handle the rest of the gifts I have for you?"

"There’s more?"

"Silly girl, don’t you remember? You were gone for five years! Four of your birthdays passed while you weren’t by my side. So, now it’s time for the last one." As he spoke, Leo closed the box and swapped it with one Lucy was holding.

Tiana Grayson placed her hand on the box, stopping him. She looked up, her eyes brimming with tears, and said in a choked voice, "Leo, you’ve prepared all this for me, but... I’ve never gotten you a single gift." ’The previous three gifts were already more than she could bear. Another one and she felt like she’d die from guilt.’

Leo Joyce’s lips curved into a roguish smile. "Silly girl," he said, "as long as you stay by my side, that’s the best gift I could ever ask for."

"Leo..."

Those words moved Tiana Grayson so much that her eyes welled up again. Seeing this, Leo Joyce’s heart ached, and he quickly made a playful threat. "Alright, no more crying. If you keep crying, I’ll have to kiss you in front of everyone!"

"You..."

"Go on, open it. Who knows, you might not even like this one?"

Speechless, Tiana Grayson nodded and reached out to open the box.

She stared at the empty box, then looked at Leo Joyce in complete surprise.

’What’s going on?’

Leo Joyce smiled and leaned in close to her face. "I told you, you might not like it."

"So there’s nothing inside?"

Leo Joyce gave her a mysterious smile. "Not exactly." As he spoke, he handed the box to Lucy, who was waiting nearby.

"Then what is it?"

Leo Joyce raised an eyebrow slightly. "You want to know?"

"Never mind, I don’t want to know." Seeing Leo Joyce’s deliberately mysterious act, she shook her head, feigning disinterest despite her burning curiosity.

Well, it seemed Tiana wasn’t going to play by his rules. Leo Joyce’s expression soured slightly. He furrowed his handsome brow and asked again, cautiously, "You really don’t want to know?"

"Well, if you absolutely insist on telling me, I suppose I could bring myself to listen."

Leo Joyce raised a hand in mock annoyance and tapped her lightly on the head. "You silly girl! Are you trying to drive me crazy?" ’Bring myself to listen? Seriously?’

Tiana tilted her head back and huffed. "Hmph. Well, whose fault is it for being so mysterious? I, for one, don’t appreciate people playing those kinds of games with me."

"You’re no fun. Lucy, let’s begin." Leo Joyce pulled her into a tight, resigned hug.

"Yes, Young Master Joyce."
