Chapter 702: Chapter 694: Marriage Proposal (9)
"What happened here?" Tiana pointed to the chip on its head and asked with a frown.
Leo Joyce’s heart sank when he heard her question. He explained nervously, "I... I was drunk one night and took it out to look at it, but I accidentally dropped it on the floor."
"Mm," Tiana Grayson hummed softly and nodded.
But Leo Joyce was terrified. He rushed to say, "Tiana, please don’t be angry. I really didn’t mean to. I felt terrible about it all day after I sobered up. If you still like it, I’ll make you a new one tomorrow. I promise it will be identical to this one."
"I’m not angry," Tiana Grayson said with a fond, resigned smile.
"You’re really not angry?" Leo Joyce was clearly unconvinced. He glanced at Tiana cautiously, studying her face for any sign that she wasn’t telling the truth.
His question left her at a loss. "Mm, I’m really not angry, Leo. Are you that afraid I’ll get angry?"
At her words, Leo Joyce said nervously, "You’d have every right to be, though. After all, I’m the one who failed to take good care of your gift."
"What kind of person do you take me for? I’m not that petty. Besides, I love this gift. Even if you made a new one that was perfectly identical, I wouldn’t like it as much. I love this one."
"Really?"
Tiana Grayson took out the little female figurine. She looked up at Leo Joyce earnestly and said with a smile, "Mm, really. It’s just like you said—a one-of-a-kind gift. So, to me, that’s exactly what this is. There’s only one like it in the entire world."
"Yes, there’s only one in the entire world," Leo Joyce agreed, a knowing smile spreading across his face as he nodded.
Tiana Grayson winked playfully and lowered her voice. "Besides," she said to Leo Joyce, "it was handmade by my future husband, which makes it extra special. So, how about we put it in the most prominent spot in our house after we get married?"
"Okay, whatever you say." Hearing Tiana call him her husband and say she wanted to display the gift so prominently made Leo Joyce’s heart flutter with sweetness, as if he’d eaten honey.
Once Tiana had closed the lid, Lucy stepped forward, took the gift box, and handed another one to Leo Joyce.
Tiana Grayson looked at the box in Leo’s hands, her eyes beginning to brim with tears.
’He had already given her two unique and incredibly meaningful gifts, and now he was holding another. Could it be... had he prepared a birthday present for her every year she was gone?’
’If that was true, then I’m so awful. I’ve never prepared a single gift for him.’
’Every time his birthday came around, I always found tons of things to do to numb myself, to stop myself from thinking about him, to forget him.’
"Tiana, this is the gift from the third year."
Tiana Grayson stared at the gift box. It was as if her hands were being controlled by someone else; she couldn’t seem to lift them. She smiled and looked up at Leo Joyce. "What’s inside? Can you open it for me?"
"Okay." Leo Joyce’s eyes had also reddened, and his voice was slightly hoarse. "This... this is the first pot of gold I earned from my first investment. I did it without relying on the family, earned through my own hard work."
Tiana Grayson struggled to lift her hand and took the passbook out of the box. The amount inside was staggering. It was the most money Tiana had ever seen in her life.
The Grayson Family was wealthy, but their money wasn’t hers. So while she’d never been short on cash, she had never held this much money in her own hands.
Her eyes fell on the numbers: 213, followed by seven zeroes.
