Desolate Devouring Art
Chapter 1916 - Left at Liu Wuxies Mercy
Chapter 1916 - Left at Liu Wuxie's Mercy
Liu Wuxie refused the offered resources. Unless it was a top-tier treasure, he didn't need additional immortal stones or ordinary pills. He had not yet exhausted the immortal stones plundered from the Ancient Origin Spatial Realm, let alone the nearly ten million he had just taken from the Celestial Moon Dao Hall's mentors.
He stood tall and proud atop the arena while a cold wind swept around him. His robes rippled through the air, making his lone figure appear even more striking.
Following a prolonged discussion, the Celestial Moon Dao Hall finally chose a mentor for the match. Only a few of their mentors taught magic, and they eventually selected a calm, seasoned elder who appeared nearly a hundred years old.
The elder, Su He, had taught magic at the Celestial Moon Dao Hall for almost half a century. It was said that he had once traveled to the Elven Race and learned several magic spells from them.
Su He's cultivation had reached only the seventh-level Profound Immortal Realm, but that was hardly surprising. People blessed with exceptional cultivation talent rarely pursued an unorthodox path such as magic. Those of mediocre talent, hoping to distinguish themselves from the masses, usually chose a different road.
As soon as both men assumed their positions, a powerful tide of magical force swept across the arena.
"Wind magic is my specialty. Mentor Liu, what kind of magic do you practice?" Su He asked. He crooked one finger, summoning a fierce gale that scoured the arena as dark clouds gathered overhead and loomed above Liu Wuxie.
"Unbound," Liu Wuxie answered.
Unlike ordinary practitioners, his magic possessed no fixed attribute. He could wield every attribute and, if he desired, unleash hundreds of different spells simultaneously.
Even so, Liu Wuxie knew only a handful of truly formidable offensive spells. Most of the others remained relatively ordinary.
"Unbound? An excellent answer," Su He praised.
His right hand suddenly pressed downward, calling forth a powerful wind dragon that swept directly toward Liu Wuxie's waist.
Wind magic prized speed, lightness, and versatility above all else. The Doom Tempest itself was also a wind-attribute magic spell.
Several distinct tiers divided magic spells. Beginner wind magic revolved primarily around controlling the wind. Intermediate spells allowed practitioners to fly, attack, and harness wind erosion. Advanced spells could summon mighty gales or compress wind into swords. Ultimate spells could even manifest tornadoes that could effortlessly tear a person apart.
With his current cultivation, Su He had only just crossed the threshold into ultimate wind magic.
Forbidden spells stood above ultimate wind magic, existing on a level completely removed from ordinary magic. Doom Tempest, for instance, belonged among those forbidden spells.
Even as the wind dragon rushed toward him, Liu Wuxie appeared indifferent and simply lifted his right hand.
"Wind Shield!" he called.
Liu Wuxie did not even need to cast a spell. He communicated directly with the surrounding wind elements, drawing them together before him until they formed a shield that blocked the wind dragon.
The wind dragon crashed into the wind shield, unleashing a powerful shockwave that rolled outward in expanding layers. Even those standing a thousand meters away could feel its force.
"What terrifying magic! He formed a wind shield with nothing more than a wave of his hand," the mentors beneath the arena exclaimed, staring in disbelief.
"Elder Su is in danger," another mentor who taught magic said anxiously.
If Su He were to be defeated, another ten Celestial Moon Dao Hall mentors would have to surrender their lives. At this rate, scarcely any of their mentors would remain alive when the competition ended.
Liu Wuxie's ruthlessness knew no restraint. Step by step, he was driving the Celestial Moon Dao Hall toward annihilation.
The instant his attack failed, Su He abandoned it and changed tactics. A magic staff materialized in his hand, and he swept it vigorously through the air. The entire arena shook as a powerful Wind God rose from beneath the ground.
The enormous Wind God consisted entirely of countless swirling cyclones. The moment it emerged, it reached for Liu Wuxie's neck with unstoppable momentum.
Never in the competition's history had a magical battle of such magnitude taken place.
During the earlier student competition, most battles had been decided in a single exchange. Clashes between spells of such magnitude had been virtually unheard of.
A flicker of surprise crossed Liu Wuxie's face. Apart from members of the Elven Race, Su He was likely the most formidable human practitioner of magic he had encountered thus far.
Before the arrival of Shadow Divination Dao Hall in Eastern Emperor City, the Azure Flame Dao Hall and the Celestial Moon Dao Hall had stood evenly matched. Once numerous outstanding mentors had defected, however, the Azure Flame Dao Hall had naturally fallen behind in overall strength.
Liu Wuxie carried no magic staff, nor did he care to use one. Clenching his right hand, he drew a vortex of wind into existence beside him and gradually compressed it into a blade.
It was the Spiritual Wind Blade.
Every mentor who practiced magic wore the same astonished expression, regardless of whether they served the Celestial Moon Dao Hall or the Azure Flame Dao Hall.
"How does Liu Wuxie cast magic with such ease? Could he belong to the Elven Race?"
Liu Wuxie's command over magic had shattered everything they thought they knew.
The Wind God's fist had already descended toward Liu Wuxie's neck. With the arena's limited size and the Wind God's colossal body, it could send him flying without taking a single step.
The Spiritual Wind Blade plunged from the sky, sending violent fluctuations rippling through space. Under its crushing pressure, the surrounding gales exploded, fragmenting into countless smaller masses of wind.
The Wind God's arm burst apart, scattering clusters of cyclones violently in every direction. Unable to withstand the impact, the cultivators beneath the arena immediately withdrew.
After severing the Wind God's arm, the Spiritual Wind Blade in Liu Wuxie's grasp continued expanding until it stretched more than three thousand meters.
Only then did Su He's expression finally shift, shattering the composure he had maintained until now. He could not understand how Liu Wuxie possessed such overwhelming magical force.
It surpassed his own by more than tenfold.
The Spiritual Wind Blade descended again, carrying even greater ferocity than before.
Liu Wuxie split the enormous Wind God apart, reducing Su He's magic spell to something as fragile as paper before him.
Had martial cultivation been allowed, Su He might still have contended with Liu Wuxie. In a pure contest of magic, however, his attainment amounted to little more than displaying a crude trick before a true master.
This match tested magic, and the rules strictly prohibited the use of martial techniques. By this point, many spectators had already predicted the ending.
As the Spiritual Wind Blade continued falling toward him, Su He could only weave a sequence of hand seals and condense a Wind Shield before himself. Although he had summoned the same spell, his Wind Shield couldn't begin to compare with the one Liu Wuxie had created earlier.
Liu Wuxie's Wind Shield had appeared almost solid, whereas Su He's seemed hollow and illusory.
The Spiritual Wind Blade effortlessly ripped through the Wind Shield, triggering another vortex of wind that exploded outward. Yet the blade halted directly above Su He's head, cutting only the tie that bound his hair.
Had it descended even slightly farther, Su He's head would have parted from his body.
"I concede," Su He said, voluntarily surrendering the match.
Liu Wuxie had already granted him mercy. He could have ended the battle in an instant, but out of respect for Su’s age, he had deliberately let their confrontation continue for several exchanges.
The Celestial Moon Dao Hall refused to accept the result so readily.
"Elder Su, the battle isn't over! Keep fighting," Zhu Gaoyang roared, demanding that Su He continue until he found some way to perish alongside Liu Wuxie.
Liu Wuxie's breakthrough to the fourth-level Spirit Immortal Realm had deeply disturbed everyone at the Celestial Moon Dao Hall, filling their hearts with intense, lingering unease.
Their goal for every remaining match had now become unmistakable. No matter the price, they had to stop Liu Wuxie, even if they could only succeed by dragging him down with them.
"If another life awaits me, I will never choose you as my enemy again," Su He said with a bitter laugh before toppling backward.
He had destroyed his own heart meridians.
"Liu Wuxie, you're a demon! Elder Su never committed evil in his entire life, so why did you drive him to his death?!" scores of students shouted as they rose and condemned Liu Wuxie in unison.
Su He had held considerable standing within the Celestial Moon Dao Hall, and the students had always regarded him with profound respect.
Their accusations failed to stir even the slightest reaction from Liu Wuxie. He merely turned his eyes toward the Celestial Moon Dao Hall's surviving mentors.
"Have you chosen?" Liu Wuxie asked, his glacial voice carrying no trace of emotion.
The Celestial Moon Dao Hall had begun with more than a hundred mentors, but only seventy or eighty still lived. A heap of corpses had already accumulated across the ground.
For one suspended moment, Liu Wuxie's voice alone echoed throughout the Ten-Mile Slope.
"Instead of waiting for him to butcher us one at a time, we should fight the Azure Flame Dao Hall to the death. At least we can take some of them with us," the Celestial Moon Dao Hall mentors shouted, raising their artifacts, ready to perish with the Azure Flame Dao Hall. Seeing their companions die miserably one after another had driven them into madness.
"That won't work. Every one of us swore an oath upon our souls, and Liu Wuxie controls our Heavenly Dao now. The instant we attack, he can summon the Heavenly Dao's power and execute us all," several mentors said, their heads hanging low.
They had already considered throwing themselves into a final battle against the Azure Flame Dao Hall.
When they had surrounded the Azure Flame Dao Hall earlier, they had known the gesture amounted to nothing more than an attempt to salvage some dignity. A genuine clash would only have ended with the Celestial Moon Dao Hall suffering far greater loss.
"We walked straight into his trap. Liu Wuxie forced us to swear upon our souls because he had dug this pit in advance and was waiting for us to fall into it," Li Baoshu said. Every trace of his earlier arrogance had disappeared. He had often heard that no one could rival Liu Wuxie's schemes, and today he had finally witnessed that terrifying brilliance firsthand.
He Lianyi's betrayal and Tian Zijin's appearance had warned Liu Wuxie of the danger closing around him. Knowing that the best defense was a good offense, he had struck before the Celestial Moon Dao Hall could make its move and used the student competition to weaken part of their strength.
The Celestial Moon Dao Hall's entire plan now lay in ruins. From the outset, Liu Wuxie had forced them to move according to his rhythm, wresting the initiative firmly into his own hands. Each defeat cost them a life, and no oath sworn before the Heavenly Dao could be taken lightly.
"Then what are we supposed to do? Stand here quietly while he kills us?"
Furious mentors lashed out at the surrounding tables and chairs with their weapons, smashing them to pieces and scattering fragments across the ground.
"Defeating Liu Wuxie and reversing the Heavenly Dao's oath is our only remaining path," the mentor who had spoken earlier said. Nothing else could free them from their predicament. If they defeated Liu Wuxie, they could turn the Heavenly Dao's power against him, kill him, and finally break the deadlock.
"The next event tests soul arts, where our chances are already poor. The same is true with alchemy, talismans, spiritual arrays, and blacksmithing. The martial path category is our only real advantage, but how many of us will still be alive by the time we reach it?" Li Baoshu asked bitterly. The specter of approaching death sent a shudder through them all.
Silence fell over the crowd. Li Baoshu had spoken the truth. Even if the martial path category eventually allowed them to defeat Liu Wuxie, how many mentors would survive long enough to witness that moment?
A piercing scream suddenly ripped through the silence.
"AARGH!"
Since they refused to decide among themselves, Liu Wuxie could only choose for them.
This time, an Origin Immortal fell. Liu Wuxie had deliberately selected him because he intended to refine the corpse and use its laws and energy to break through to the fifth-level Spirit Immortal Realm.
As for the Profound Myriad-Aspect Sand and the sixth-grade immortal pill, Liu Wuxie planned to preserve them until the most critical moment.
