16: My Second Amendment Rights
Natsuo wasn't planning on staying in this world once the quest was finished, but despite that, he still wanted to try accumulating some wealth here and perhaps get something like a headquarters for them.
Who knew, maybe in the future he would want to come back to this world and play around for a while. Besides, this was Kana's world, so he thought that someday he might come here again.
Anyway, the idea of creating a business in every world he visited seemed... majestic!
"Hey, I'm bored." Kana played with her legs before putting down her phone, speaking in a bored tone.
"Go train. Don't bother me." Natsuo didn't even bother looking at her. His plan was to gather enough cash through trading. Of course, he would only buy and sell stocks that he already knew would be profitable for him.
Then, perhaps, he would create some software; a SAS sounds good.
And become one of those tech bros with a receding hairline, glasses, and a skinny fat frame who paid $30K an hour just to talk to a girl about crypto.
Possibly he could invest in cloud computing and make a fortune once AI became mainstream. Well... that would require way too much money if he wanted to secure a decent share of the market. Investing in servers would require billions. The other idea was to use Amazon's AWS and sell its services to others. Anyways, everyone was doing it and making a profit.
All those hosting services are just using AWS. They don't own shit.
"Nerd, you're on vacation. Why are you still working so hard?" Kana stood behind him, resting her chin on his shoulder as she stared at the screen, unable to understand a single thing on it.
"Vacation? It's a quest! And you need to take it seriously. These flesh eating parasites can kill us!" Natsuo closed his laptop and pushed her face away from him.
"I know, I know, but still… aren't you like on vacation right now? You don't have to go to school. Time in your world is stopped, while I have to go to school every day. It's so annoying." Kana raised her arms high and stretched.
She was wearing a jacket with a shirt underneath and short shorts. When she lifted her arms, her belly was exposed along with the strings of her underwear.
"I lose faith in democracy every time I remember that your vote counts the same as mine." Natsuo stared at her midriff as he spoke and stood up.
"The hell do you mean? Besides, you're not even eligible to vote yet!" Kana pushed his shoulder lightly, her tone annoyed.
"Since you're bored, I saw something on the internet earlier. Want to try it?" Natsuo slapped her hands away and suddenly spoke with a nasty grin.
"What is it?" Kana asked curiously.
...
Tanaka Hiroshi was 103 years old. He was old, very, very old. He had lived through two world wars and survived two atomic bombs.
His wife had died 20 years ago, and unfortunately, his son and daughter had died about five years ago as well. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren rarely came to see him. He had heard that his great-great-grandchild had been born, but he hadn't gotten the chance to see him.
Having lived for so long, his proudest possession was the collection of wine he had brewed 80 years ago. He had heard that it was worth a fortune now.
Lately, he had started to feel that his time was coming. All his friends and acquaintances had been dying one after another. Just last week, the old man he used to chat with had died.
Hmm... what was his name again?
Tanaka had forgotten his name once again. It seemed that his dementia was getting worse.
With his trembling body supported by his cane, Tanaka slowly made his way toward the window. His old legs felt weak beneath him, and every step seemed to take more effort than the last.
Just as he reached the window, something caught his blurry vision.
On the rooftop of the building opposite him stood a figure dressed entirely in black. The figure was completely motionless, holding a long, ominous scythe in one hand.
"W-what is that?"
Tanaka squinted his eyes, trying to make out what he was seeing. Soon, he was able to distinguish the figure more clearly. It looked like a grim reaper, wearing a white skull mask. The grim reaper was staring fixedly in his direction.
Suddenly, the grim reaper moved.
It slowly raised its scythe and pointed the blade directly at him, as if he were saying, 'It's your turn.'
"Death? Did... did he come to take me?" Tanaka muttered in disbelief.
He might have been old as fuck, but he still wanted to live for a couple more years. He wanted to see his great-great-grandchild, even if it was only once.
In a panic, he stumbled backward and pointed toward the window with a trembling hand. "He's coming for me! He's coming for me!"
"Mr. Tanaka? What's wrong with you? Please calm down!" His cries alarmed the caretaker, and she rushed over to him, grabbing his arms to prevent him from falling. When she followed his finger, she didn't see anything there. She thought he was hallucinating again and helped him back to his bed.
Tanaka, however, continued pointing toward the window. The grim reaper had reappeared the moment the caretaker looked away, standing silently on the opposite rooftop as it stared directly at him.
...
"Hahaha! This is so funny!" On the opposite rooftop, Kana sat on the floor, hugging her knees as she laughed so hard she could barely catch her breath. "I didn't know you had such an evil streak, Natsuo!"
It was she who had dressed up as the Grim Reaper to scare the elderly people in the nursing home opposite them. She was still dressed in the black robe, while the plastic scythe lay on the ground next to her feet.
Earlier, Natsuo had shown her a video on the news about a man who had been caught by the police after dressing up as a Grim Reaper and standing in front of a hospital for an entire hour without moving, scaring the shit out of the people inside.
"What do you mean by evil?" Natsuo glared at her as he leaned against the rooftop wall. It was a fun thing to do, but they shouldn't overdo it. Who knew if someone might call the police, or if they could end up causing some old guy to die from sheer panic?
He lightly punched her shoulder and added, "I didn't expect you to be this good at it. As expected of a bully, you have a knack for messing with people."
Kana didn't bother replying. She adjusted her sitting position and asked, "Hilda-san is your foster mother now, right?"
"Indeed," Natsuo replied.
Speaking of which, Hilda and Chelsea had been going out frequently lately. They had been taking Shinichi with them to kill Parasites, leaving Natsuo out of it even though he had already learned how to use Elementary Magic, which had left him frustrated.
Although he knew they were worried about him, he still felt that they were being overly protective. He was a man, after all, and also the Admin. It was shameful that he had to stay at home, waiting for the two of them to carry him through this quest.
"So, are you going to fuck your foster mother just like you did with your stepsister?" Kana brought her face closer to his and asked with a grin.
"...Let's be real. Are you perhaps a closet pervert?" Natsuo held his forehead and asked. Even though he had embarrassed her last time, this girl still liked to bring up the matter. "Hmm, Soul Mate Sniffer. Now that I remember, you had quite a few wet dreams."
"Ehh?" Kana's smug grin froze, her face turning bright red. Then she began waving her hands frantically and screaming, "Pervert! Scum! Trash!!"
"I'll warn you once. My hands are gender neutral, so if you hit me one more time, I'll knock some sense into you." Natsuo slapped her hands away and said in a self-righteous tone. "You're the one who started this. You're the pervert who keeps bringing up sexual topics."
"Egh!" Kana flinched and stopped. She remembered what had happened to Mitsuo. This guy seemed to be very petty, so perhaps he really would hit her. She muttered in a low voice, "Actually, I'm usually not like this. It's just that whenever you're around, I get this urge to argue with you."
"Oh." Natsuo simply let out an indifferent 'Oh' without replying. Looking at it from a different angle, wasn't this the same as those kids at school where boys would pull the hair of the girls they liked just to get their attention?
In the end, he didn't say his thoughts out loud. It was rare to see this foul mouthed woman being this honest.
"A Parasite!" Just then, Kana suddenly exclaimed.
"Where?" Natsuo's expression turned serious. He crouched down and asked while looking around cautiously. Both of them were standing on the roof of a five story building.
"Over there." Kana held his hand and pointed to their right.
"Wait here. I'll check it." Natsuo followed her direction, then stood up and walked over, preparing to chant a magic spell just in case.
But Kana quickly followed him.
"No! I'll go with you."
She took off the black Grim Reaper robe, then pulled a gun from her waist belt and said with a grin, "I'll exercise my Second Amendment right!"
She was holding a Glock 17, gripping it with both hands like a police officer in an action movie.
"Second Amendment? We are in Japan. There is no such thing," Natsuo said speechlessly. He reached down to his own waist and touched his gun.
Two weeks ago, Chelsea had brought multiple weapons with her, guns, shotguns, and even three AK-47 submachine guns. She said she had raided a gang's warehouse and brought them back, along with a large amount of ammunition.
She said that she had borrowed them from the gang.
Natsuo wisely didn't ask her about the gang she had 'borrowed' these things from. For someone like Chelsea, who had devoted her life to exterminating evil and corruption, it was a no brainer that they were probably all at the bottom of Tokyo Bay by now, becoming food for the fish.
Surprisingly, Kana was quite good with guns. With plenty of ammunition available, she had spent time training and honing her shooting skills. Though she hadn't killed a single Parasite yet.
The two of them slowly moved to the other side of the roof and looked down. There, they saw a woman clinging to a man who was half drunk, his arms wrapped around her waist as he wore a stupid smile.
"It's the woman," Kana whispered into his ear.
"I know," Natsuo replied. The woman's face was stiff, and her eyes looked deader than your face after beating your meat.
