The night was as black as ink. Chilly moonlight filtered through the gaps in the bamboo leaves, casting mottled, fragmented shadows on the ground.

Qing Yueqiu held her breath, her focus absolute. She moved through the dense forest as lightly as a falling leaf, her gaze locked on the Luminous Shadow Sword floating ahead of her.

The blade of the Luminous Shadow Sword glowed with a faint luminescence, guiding her through the darkness and using the moonlight to conceal Qing Yueqiu's presence.

Suddenly, the Luminous Shadow Sword trembled slightly and stopped in mid-air.

Qing Yueqiu immediately halted as well, her long, pale pink eyelashes fluttering.

She hid herself behind several ancient bamboo stalks, her fair white fingers clutching the corner of her clothes.

Ahead in the forest, a massive troop of the Demon Race surged past like a black tide.

Their bodies were twisted and their faces ferocious, like evil spirits crawling out of Hell. They moved like an army of ghosts, devoid of any Yang Qi.

At the very front of the procession, a demon general clad in pitch-black armor rode a massive skeletal horse. Two crimson points of light flickered under his helmet.

Palpable Demonic Qi coiled around his body, and all the grass and trees withered where he passed.

Even from a thousand meters away, Qing Yueqiu felt a suffocating pressure. Her opponent's strength was far beyond her own.

She averted her gaze, but in that same instant, she caught a glimpse out of the corner of her eye. Beside the general was a demon made of hundreds of eyeballs.

Under the moonlight, the eyeballs were constantly swiveling, glowing with an eerie green light.

Qing Yueqiu quickly lowered her eyelids, pulled her head back, and held her breath.

She remembered this creature. She knew its Perception was terrifyingly powerful.

When those nine Void Refining Demon Race members had surrounded them before, they had relied on this eye monster's eyes to lock onto their position.

'Wait… locking onto a position.'

In a flash of insight, Qing Yueqiu understood.

'Perhaps that eye monster left something on Master back then, using it as a medium to track him.'

Qing Yueqiu murmured to herself, unconsciously biting her lower lip.

Although she inwardly cursed the Demon Race for their despicable methods…

She had to admit that with this eye monster leading the way, she could find her Master much faster.

Qing Yueqiu slowly exhaled. In the moonlight, her porcelain-white face seemed to be covered in a layer of frost.

Silently, like a wisp of smoke, she blended into the fragmented moonlight dappling the forest floor and followed the large demon troop.

'…Strange. Why did I just get a bad feeling?'

The Eye Ghost retracted the dozens of eyeballs that were looking behind him and uneasily touched the largest one in the center of his forehead.

His small movement immediately drew a sharp glare from the one beside him.

From under the Armored Ghost's full-face helmet came a cold snort that sounded like scraping metal. The black mist snorted out by the skeletal horse beneath him coalesced into the shape of a skull in the air.

"Eye Ghost, lead the way properly! You people caused Lord Ox Demon Venerable to lose the power of an incarnation. You should have paid with your lives. Now you're being given a chance to atone for your failure, so why aren't you taking it more seriously?"

The hoarse, imposing reprimand came from the gaps in the armor.

The Eye Ghost, who had been about to check behind them again, immediately lost the inclination to do so. He quickly lowered his head and replied, "Yes, Lord Armored Ghost."

But inwardly, he couldn't help but curse under his breath:

'It was clearly Lord Ox Demon Venerable's own incompetence. He descended in an incarnation and still couldn't take down that pair of disciples, so how can he blame it all on me?'

'But as a subordinate, when a plan succeeds, it's the superior's credit. When it fails, the subordinate takes the fall.'

The Eye Ghost could do nothing about it. He could only follow the mark he had left on the pair of disciples and lead the Armored Ghost across half of Ghost-Back Mountain.

As they entered a section of the Black Forest strewn with stumps, the Armored Ghost suddenly reined in his skeletal horse, which reared up on its hind legs with a screech.

"Halt."

The Armored Ghost's Face Armor lifted half an inch with a CLICK, revealing a rotting nasal bone as he took a deep breath.

He reached out and ran a hand over the mirror-smooth cut on a nearby stump. The blood-red mist seeping from the gaps in his armor suddenly began to boil.

"What pure Sword Qi!"

"I've found him… Nangong Jin, the one who stole the Holy Grail, is nearby!"

Without another glance at the Eye Ghost beside him, the Armored Ghost directly commanded the demon soldiers behind him:

"Everyone, search! The Dao Sect disciples who killed Lord Ox Demon Venerable's incarnation must be here!"

When the Eye Ghost saw the Armored Ghost suddenly stop him from searching, he instantly understood what the general was trying to do.

'He wants to steal the credit!'

The Eye Ghost gritted his teeth. He hadn't expected the Armored Ghost to be so sanctimonious.

Unwilling to have his credit stolen, the Eye Ghost said quietly:

"Lord Armored Ghost, I left a mark on the man. Let me lead you to sneak up on them.

Having your men search like this will definitely alert the prey!"

The Armored Ghost heard this and gave him a cold look.

"So what if we alert them? No matter how strong those two are, they were severely wounded by the Ox Demon Venerable. Even if they know this general is here to surround them, they won't escape my grasp!

Eye Ghost, you've led us far enough. Go to the rear…"

SSSSS—

The skeletal horse let out a blast of hot air at the Eye Ghost, as if threatening him.

The eyeballs all over the Eye Ghost's body flickered. He was furious, but there was nothing he could do.

He possessed a perceptual talent unique in the entire Demon Race. Unfortunately, in the Demon Race, strength was supreme. All his talent was focused on Perception, leaving his actual power weak. In the eyes of other demons, he was nothing more than a tool, with no status to speak of.

'You'll all regret this!'

Thinking this, the Eye Ghost dejectedly moved to the rear of the procession.

By now, the demon soldiers had all scattered. The Eye Ghost knew he wouldn't get any credit, and even if he did, it would be stolen. He simply stayed where he was, not bothering to move.
