Cursed Immortality
Chapter 1294: Controlled Chaos (2)
Alexandra moved through the darkness like water flowing through a river, without making a sound.
The Cloak of Occult wrapped around her body like a second layer of reality, concealing not only her figure but also her aura, laws, spatial fluctuations, and even the traces created by her movement.
At this point, she was practically nonexistent, yet Alexandra’s expression remained cold, for she wasn’t pleased.
Being ordered around by Destin Saint was already irritating enough, but what bothered her more was that he had casually sent her toward an unknown anomaly after the God of Hollow Undead himself had admitted that he couldn’t understand what was happening.
That alone made Alexandra wary.
’That old monster called him an ant just moments ago.’ Her eyes narrowed beneath the hood. ’Now he’s asking for help.’
There was obviously something unusual about the intruder, and Alexandra had no intention of underestimating him. In fact, ever since Destin Saint had mentioned the anomaly, several possibilities had already crossed her mind, like the Cursed One and Immortal Nimrod.
But it could also be someone else entirely; the first two possibilities were particularly troublesome.
If it was Immortal Nimrod, then there was no reason for Alexandra to underestimate him. She had already heard enough about that elusive existence from Destin Saint to know that even Gods treated him cautiously.
But if it was the Cursed One, her eyes became colder, as that possibility was even more complicated. Alexandra had only encountered the Cursed One two times. Yet those two encounters had left an impression she hadn’t been able to erase.
Especially the last encounter, when she had been prepared for an ambush that day, and everything had been arranged by Destin Saint, like the timing, the location, and the concealment.
But when the moment she had been waiting for had finally arrived, he had simply disappeared before she could even begin the attack. The situation had spiraled completely out of control afterward.
More importantly, that was the only time Alexandra had ever seen Destin Saint lose his composure, as he had not merely become cautious or serious, but he had actually panicked.
Alexandra’s eyes flickered as she remembered that scene clearly, even now. She had never asked too many questions at the time, but Destin Saint had eventually given her an explanation.
He told her it was the Immortal Nimrod; according to him, his reaction had been due to the elusive being from the Void.
But Alexandra had never completely believed it.
’He panicked because of the Cursed One’s sudden escape from his perfect net!’
That thought had surfaced more than once, but she had never said it aloud. Not to mention, there was something strangely unpleasant about it.
Perhaps it was jealousy, after all; what kind of existence was the Cursed One? A being whose power was insignificant compared with Destin Saint’s.
Someone who shouldn’t have been capable of standing on the same level as that terrifying existence, yet somehow, he had made Destin Saint panic.
Alexandra’s fingers slowly tightened beneath her cloak.
’And now he’s probably here.’
She continued forward, and the deeper she moved, the more unusual the surroundings became. At first, she could only sense the strange currents of sacrificial energy flowing through the Divine Temple.
Then she began to feel something else. A profound presence, but it wasn’t particularly overwhelming, not even comparable to the pressure of a God. Yet there was something about it that made Alexandra slow down instinctively.
It was difficult to describe, as the presence didn’t simply exist; it felt as though it was continuously interacting with everything around it.
Alexandra’s eyes narrowed as she thought, ’What is that?’
She moved another step, and then another, before finally the darkness ahead opened into the hidden treasury.
It was at that moment that Alexandra saw him, and her eyes narrowed dramatically.
A figure stood before the open passage, and he was clad in a long black windbreaker that fell almost to his ankles, while a long hood concealed most of his appearance.
His skeletal body stood completely still, and a strange wheel floated behind him. It was divided into several sections, three of which were already clearly manifested, and within the fourth portion something faint existed like an incomplete arc.
Alexandra stared at the figure, and for several breaths, she didn’t move, but her mind was racing madly, ’That silhouette...that clothing...that posture. Even the strange feeling surrounding him...’
It was familiar, in fact, far too familiar, as her memories suddenly overlapped with the scene before her. The figure she had once prepared to ambush, and the figure that had vanished before she could make a move. The same figure whose existence had been connected to that rare moment when Destin Saint had actually lost his composure.
Alexandra’s breathing became imperceptibly slower.
’No...’
The figure turned slightly. Although she couldn’t see his face beneath the hood, Alexandra already knew, as the answer was carved into her memory.
’It’s him.’ Her eyes became extremely cold. ’The Cursed One!’
The moment that realization surfaced, Alexandra’s previous hesitation vanished, and so did her doubts, for she had found him again after all this time.
The Cursed One was standing right in front of her, and more importantly, he was alone while ruining the God of Hollow Undead’s plans.
Alexandra’s gaze immediately swept across the treasury and behind her. There was no Fateless Celestial, Destin Saint, or other hidden existence.
Her thoughts moved rapidly, ’Destin Saint isn’t here...’
A faint gleam appeared within her eyes as this was an opportunity, and an extremely rare one. Her Universal Godly Artifact was still in the Cursed One’s possession; she hadn’t forgotten that, nor had she forgotten how difficult it had been to recover it.
Moreover, she joined hands with Destin Saint because she desperately wanted to recover it; without it, she would stagnate!
But if she returned now and told Destin Saint that she had found the Cursed One, there was no guarantee what would happen afterward. He would certainly come, and once he arrived, the Universal Godly Artifact might become another matter entirely.
Alexandra’s eyes became colder as she determined, ’No. I’m not going back...not yet!’
The Cloak of Occult was concealing her perfectly, and the Cursed One clearly hadn’t discovered her. As long as she succeeded with her first strike, Alexandra was confident she could deal with him.
She slowly raised her hand, and the darkness around her seemed to become deeper as her figure remained completely invisible.
Alexandra’s eyes locked onto Jacob’s skull as she sprang into action.
’Die!’
Her figure disappeared from where she stood, and the next instant, a pale hand emerged from the darkness beside Jacob’s head. It was silent, fast, and precise, with not the slightest warning.
Her fingers bent slightly, carrying terrifying power as they thrust toward the back of his skull. Yet just before her attack could land, Jacob moved as his head tilted sideways, and the pale fingers passed directly beside his skull.
Alexandra’s eyes narrowed.
’What?’
She was startled when her attack missed, and she almost thought Jacob had detected her, but it should be impossible with Cloak of Occult.
But something was strange, as there had been no defensive reaction or attempt to search for her; instead, he had simply moved at exactly the right moment.
’Is that a fluke?’
She didn’t hesitate and instantly moved again as she maneuvered her hand, and it bent unnaturally, ignoring the wrist’s angle, and stabbed toward his neck with two fingers shaped like a blade.
But then again, just in the nick of time, he raised his skeletal arm covered with his powerful soul force.
’Clang!’
Alexandra’s fingers struck his bone, and a sound like metal cracking echoed through the treasury. She felt as if she had just hit a mountain!
Even while using her unique power, she still failed to break his arm, which alarmed her, and she immediately retreated as her figure disappeared into the darkness again.
But strangely, Jacob remained motionless as his hollow sockets stared ahead while the Life Bane Wheel slowly revolved behind him.
Alexandra’s expression became solemn. ’Coincidence again? NO!’
She didn’t believe it, as her body remained concealed as she silently observed him, but Jacob hadn’t even turned toward her; he simply stood there, as though nothing had happened. But that was more unsettling than if he had detected her.
Alexandra waited for a little while, and Jacob still didn’t make any move.
She hesitated for a moment before she decided to attack again.
This time, she appeared above him, and her palm descended toward his skull with enough power to crush even a Quasi-Myth Duke.
But right at that moment, Jacob suddenly stepped forward, and the attack missed by a hair; Alexandra’s palm struck empty air.
Her expression changed again, but Jacob still hadn’t looked at her.
The strange wheel behind him rotated slowly as Alexandra felt an inexplicable pressure from it. It wasn’t powerful in the conventional sense, as there was no overwhelming authority or terrifying Law, yet whenever she looked at that wheel, an instinctive discomfort surfaced within her.
It was as though the wheel wasn’t merely processing the sacrificial energy, but it was watching and learning!
