Cursed Immortality
Chapter 1295: Controlled Chaos (3)
Alexandra’s gaze hardened as she finally paid attention to the Life Bane Wheel.
’That thing...’
First, she thought it was some kind of divine treasure that was helping Jacob disrupt the ritual of the Undead Skyfall, but now that she looked at it again, it didn’t seem like an artifact.
She didn’t understand it, and that was precisely what made her uncomfortable. She had fought many powerful beings throughout her existence, but this was different.
The Cursed One was standing there like an unmoving corpse, yet somehow her attacks were being avoided before they even landed.
Alexandra refused to believe it was luck.
’Could he see me? No, impossible! The Cloak of Occult had concealed me from even powerful beings like the God of Hollow Undead and Immortal Nimrod. Moreover, just from his reaction, he can’t detect me either, but then why?! Unless...’
Her eyes narrowed coldly.
’He isn’t seeing me.’ She suddenly understood something. ’But perhaps he didn’t need to...’
Alexandra looked toward the strange wheel again, and a chill subtly crept through her heart.
’Then what exactly is he sensing?’
She disappeared once more, and this time, she didn’t attack immediately as she moved around him- left, right, above, behind...she carefully observed his movements.
But there was nothing, as Jacob remained still while the sacrificial energy continued flowing into the wheel.
After confirming that Jacob couldn’t see her, Alexandra suddenly struck, and her fingers appeared beside his ribs, piercing toward the gap between his bones.
But instantly, Jacob’s body twisted, and the attack passed through empty space.
Alexandra’s expression finally changed as she launched four attacks, and all of them were misses. Moreover, each time he had moved before she attacked, not after, sending a faint chill through her.
’This isn’t normal.’
Her gaze fixed on the incomplete fourth arc of the Life Bane Wheel, which wasn’t there but subtly was, and for the first time, Alexandra felt something close to unease.
Then Jacob’s head slowly turned, and his hollow sockets seemed to face directly toward the darkness where she had vanished.
Alexandra froze, and for a moment she wondered if he had finally discovered her, but Jacob didn’t attack; he simply stared, and behind him the strange wheel continued to rotate.
Alexandra’s fingers slowly tightened. ’Why don’t you just surrender, damn it?!’
On the other hand, Jacob’s hollow sockets burned as Alexandra disappeared into the darkness once again, but he didn’t move. His Mortal Danger Sense had already warned him several times, but that was all it could do.
It could tell him that death was approaching, but it couldn’t tell him where Alexandra was, or slow her down, and most importantly, it couldn’t give him enough time to react to every attack.
After all, Alexandra was simply too fast; the moment her killing intent appeared, her attack was already there.
Jacob had survived the previous strikes only because his Mortal Danger Sense had given him the slightest glimpse of the future, allowing his body to instinctively move before the attack arrived.
But that advantage was becoming increasingly unreliable.
’She’s too fast.’ Jacob’s expression became solemn. ’If this continues, even Mortal Danger Sense won’t be enough.’
He could already feel the pressure. Alexandra’s attacks weren’t merely powerful, for they carried an extremely strange quality that made the surrounding reality difficult to trust.
Her darkness could interfere with the certainty of an event, and it could make an action that had already happened seem as though it hadn’t, which was particularly dangerous against him.
It was not for the mysterious power within the Life Bane Wheel; Jacob was sure he wouldn’t even be able to react in time despite the warning from the Mortal Danger Sense.
Although Jacob’s body was powerful enough to withstand her attacks, he couldn’t afford to continue blocking them directly. Every exchange gave Alexandra more information, and he was sure that she was already observing him.
’She’s probably testing the Life Bane Wheel and trying to understand why I can avoid attacks from an enemy I can’t see or sense...’ Jacob thought grimly.
He knew that if he remained on the defensive, sooner or later she would discover a way around his Mortal Danger Sense, and there was another problem.
’She’s the Heir of a Universal Godly Scripture.’
Jacob’s eyes narrowed as he knew firsthand that UGS heirs’ abilities couldn’t be measured by their power rank alone.
Just like Jacob himself, Alexandra possessed an inheritance that stood above ordinary Laws. Even if her current rank was only at the Quasi-Myth level, the things she could unleash were far beyond what an ordinary Quasi-Myth could accomplish.
Lastly, behind her was Destin Saint, and now Jacob was sure he wasn’t here, as he had already determined that much from the absence of the Fateless Celestial. But that didn’t mean Destin Saint was far away, and could be somewhere outside the treasury, watching, and waiting.
Perhaps he was even using Alexandra as a probe to gauge how much power Jacob had and what trump card he was hiding.
Jacob’s thoughts became colder. ’And there’s still Immortal Nimrod.’
That name alone made him cautious. If Alexandra and Destin Saint had appeared here, and Jacob had also revealed his true form, then the possibility of Immortal Nimrod lurking somewhere nearby couldn’t be ignored.
In fact, Jacob had expected it, and that was precisely why he had come prepared for the possibility of facing both Destin Saint and Immortal Nimrod. He had prepared specifically for that possibility.
But he hadn’t expected Alexandra to come alone, which changed everything because if Destin Saint appeared now, Jacob couldn’t afford to reveal all of his preparations, and if Immortal Nimrod appeared after that...
Jacob’s burning eyes became colder. ’This isn’t the time to reveal everything.’
Running was another option, as he could retreat any time he wanted and abandon the treasury, but this kind of opportunity wouldn’t come later.
Jacob glanced at the enormous sacrificial river; countless streams of vitality were still pouring into the Life Bane Wheel, and His lifespan was still increasing while his soul vitality was still being refined.
The Wheel was still becoming more stable, and most importantly, that mysterious colorless current was still there, which meant he couldn’t simply walk away.
’Not yet.’
Jacob made his decision. He wouldn’t flee, but he also wouldn’t continue standing here and allowing Alexandra to attack him, so he needed to force her into the open.
At that moment, his gaze slowly shifted toward the darkness surrounding him.
’If I can’t find you...’ The corners of his skeletal mouth seemed to rise beneath the hood. ’Then I’ll destroy the place you’re hiding in.’
The next instant, Jacob raised his right hand, and a pitch-black ring appeared around his middle finger.
It was still the same armor ring, as the design hadn’t changed, with black metallic material wrapped around his finger like a miniature piece of ancient machinery, while exquisite sapphire gemstones were embedded across its surface, and tiny white glyphs covered the dark metal, each one far more intricate than the plain runes Jacob had originally carved when he created it.
Yet something about the ring was different now, as it no longer felt like an artifact created by someone from the Unique Plains. Instead, it felt ancient, cold, and strangely complete.
The evolved glyphs weren’t simply engraved on the surface anymore; they seemed to exist across multiple layers of reality. Some were visible, some existed beneath the metal, and others seemed to disappear into spaces that shouldn’t have existed within such a tiny ring.
Jacob stared with a hint of uncertainty at it for a moment, for this was the Planet Destroyer!
