Chapter 66: Chapter 66 Responsibility

"Err..."

Max was at a loss for words. He didn’t know how to respond to Lia’s questions. On top of that, he was inwardly cursing Lars for keeping his job as a hunter a secret from his family.

’Damn it, Lars! I’m the one in trouble because of you. How am I supposed to explain this to your sister? ’

He clenched his teeth. Meanwhile, Lia continued waiting for his answer. Max finally realized he had no other choice but to tell her.

"Lars... he’s actually..."

But just as he was about to finish his sentence, a commotion suddenly came from inside the emergency room.

"Hey, mister! You can’t stand up yet!" a nurse’s voice rang out.

Lia and Max looked at each other. They then immediately rushed inside. When they entered, they saw Lars already awake and attempting to leave the bed.

"Hey, Lars! What are you doing? You just lost a lot of blood. You need to stay in bed for a while," Lia said as she grabbed Lars’s hand.

"Sis?!"

Lars was surprised to see his sister. Only then did he realize that he was in his sister’s hospital. He then noticed Max standing nearby. Lars quickly grabbed Max by the shoulders.

"Max! Those people took Celine away! We need to save her quickly!"

"No! You can’t leave," Lia said.

"Please, Max!" Lars pleaded as he looked at him.

Max was now caught in a dilemma between the two siblings. Would he follow Lia’s orders, or would he listen to his old friend? He frowned and closed his eyes. After taking a deep breath, he finally looked at Lia.

"Lia, has Lars already finished his blood transfusion?" he asked.

Lia’s eyes suddenly widened when she heard the question. She knew exactly why Max was asking. She remained silent.

Max then turned toward another doctor who had just entered the room and asked him the same question.

"He still has some blood left to transfuse, but his hemodynamic status is already stable. What are you planning to do?" the doctor asked.

"Then I’m taking him with me!" Max grabbed the blood pack, which was still half full, and pulled Lars along with him.

"Hey! Both of you! What are you two doing?" Lia stepped in front of them, blocking their way. By now, more medical staff had begun gathering around them, curious about what was happening.

"Please move aside, Sis. I have something I need to do. I promise, once all of this is settled, I will tell you everything. You still owe me dinner, remember?" Lars forced a weak smile at her.

Lia stared at him. Right now, she was torn between two responsibilities. One was her responsibility as a doctor. The other was her responsibility as an older sister.

As a doctor, she would never allow a patient to leave before completing their treatment. If there were no other choice, she could even resort to sedating them.

But as his sister and family, Lars’s determined expression began to move her. She knew her little brother well. Ever since he was young, he had always been rebellious. Once he had made up his mind about something, he would never back down.

Lia clenched her fists tightly and pressed her lips together. After a moment, she stepped aside and allowed them to pass. She knew that even if she stopped Lars now, he would only try to leave again later.

"Thank you, Sis. Thank you for treating me. But I’m fine now. And please don’t tell Mom. I don’t want her to worry," Lars said before the two of them left the Emergency Department.

"Dr. Lia, is it really alright to let him go?" the nurse asked.

"It is fine. My stupid brother never listens to anyone anyway. If anything happens to him, I will take responsibility," Lia said as she watched her brother leave.

"Lars, you have a lot of things to explain to me!" Max said as the two of them sat inside a taxi. Max had arrived at the hospital in the ambulance, so his car was still at Lars’s place.

The taxi driver kept glancing at Lars through the rearview mirror as he drove. Lars was still wearing a hospital gown, with a blood transfusion bag hanging beside him.

’Are these two guys running away from the hospital?!’ The driver wondered.

Lars then explained everything that had happened, including the mysterious swordsman who had attacked him. Listening to Lars’s story, Max frowned.

"That guy sounds extremely dangerous. Even I would have difficulty facing him. But there’s something I want to ask. Did you use your skill to heal your wound? Your sister said that the wound was almost fatal."

"Yeah. I used a skill from Divine Ranger. Luckily, it was enough to save my life," Lars said. Even Lars didn’t know how he had come up with the idea. Perhaps his determination not to die had pushed him to use it.

"But those guys who kidnapped Celine, do you know who they are?" Lars asked.

"I don’t know. But I know who we need to ask."

The taxi continued through the city before eventually arriving at Lars’s rented building. Lars stepped out and removed the intravenous line from his arm as the blood bag was already empty.

"Can you walk, Lars?"

"I’m fine."

The two of them then walked toward a group of people gathered on the ground floor. They were all surrounding two old men who were playing chess. It was Old Man Lee and Old Man Chou.

"Hey, kid! Are you alright?" Old Man Lee asked.

"My boys told me you were injured. Did someone attack you? Tell me who they were. They actually dared to cause trouble here while we weren’t around." Old Man Chou said.

"Yes. I was attacked. And I want to ask you about them, in case you know who they are. Among the attackers, there was a swordsman who covered his eyes. Do you two know them?" Lars asked.

Lee and Chou exchanged a glance. All of their men began whispering among themselves.

"Don’t tell me... you were attacked by the Black Maria Gang? If you’re talking about the Black Maria Gang, then you have gotten yourself into something much bigger than you realize." Lee said.
