Chapter 67: Chapter 67 Black Maria

"Black Maria?" Lars muttered. He had never heard that name before.

"Tsk! Even hearing the name of that gang makes me want to puke!"

"How dare they set foot in our territory!"

The men began talking among themselves. From their reactions, Lars could tell they already had a history with this gang.

"Come, sit down, you two. Let me tell you about them," Lee said as he ordered his men to bring two chairs. Lars and Max sat down, preparing themselves to hear the story.

"For many years, my gang and Chou’s gang have controlled the underground of this South region. No one dared to touch us and if anyone dared to cause trouble for us..."

Lee made a cutting gesture across his neck with his thumb.

"...then this is what awaited them."

"However, ten years ago, a group suddenly appeared out of nowhere and began causing trouble in the West region. They called themselves the Black Lotus."

"At first, all of us in the underground of this state simply ignored them. Usually, newly founded gangs don’t survive for very long. But we were wrong."

"That group began growing day by day until, one day, they toppled the biggest underground gang in the West and took control of the entire region."

"After gaining control of the West, they weren’t satisfied. They started attacking other regions, including the South. At that time, all the gangs in the South formed an alliance and fought against them."

"We succeeded and killed their leader. After that, the group still existed, but it was nothing like before. They became a small remnant group that mostly involved themselves in prostitution and drug dealing."

Lee took out a cigarette, and one of his men quickly lit it for him. Chou then took over the conversation.

"But it seems they’ve rebranded themselves as the Black Maria, and they’re now slowly regaining their influence. From what we’ve gathered, it seems they’re focusing more on quality than quantity."

"They’re hiring some of the strongest hunters they can find to work for them. There are three particularly powerful hunters among them. One of them is the man you mentioned. We call him White Feathers."

"But you were incredibly lucky to survive after facing him, kid. Most people would be dead before they even realized what happened to them." Chou said.

Lars looked down at his hands. He was more grateful than ever that he possessed Class Creator. If not for his Class, he would surely be lying lifeless in the morgue already.

"Now then, tell me, kid. Why did those bastards suddenly come here?" Lee asked as he blew out a cloud of smoke.

Lars remained silent for a moment before finally speaking.

"It seems Celine had been working for them all this time. But when she decided she didn’t want to do what they wanted anymore, they tried to do something bad to her," Lars said.

Lee, Chou, and the other men were stunned. They had never expected Celine to actually be working for the Black Maria. To think that a member of their enemy gang had been living right under their noses.

"So, what are you going to do now, kid?" Chou asked.

"I want to save her," Lars said, his eyes sharp with determination.

"Hey, Lars, didn’t you hear what they said? They’re an underground gang! Do you really think the two of us can defeat all of them?And that White Feathers guy, he seems completely beyond our level," Max said as he was being realistic.

"That orange-haired kid is right. Going after them would be no different from walking straight toward your death. You better forget about it. The current leader of the Black Maria is known to be merciless. That girl’s fate has already been decided." Lee said.

Lars stood up and clenched his fists. He knew this was dangerous. But he couldn’t just let Celine die because she was trying to correct the mistakes of her past.

"I don’t want to go there to die. I want to go there and save Celine. I have already made my decision. Even if I have to go alone," Lars said firmly.

Chou and Lee looked at Lars. Then, the two old men exchanged a glance before bursting into laughter.

"Seeing you like this reminds us of our younger days," Chou said.

"We can’t help you directly in this battle. We don’t want to start an all-out gang war. But there is something we can do to help you. Follow me."

Chou stood up and began walking away. Lars and Max looked at each other before following him.

They then entered one of the rooms. Chou opened a door, revealing a staircase leading underground. The two immediately followed him down.

Once they reached the bottom, Chou switched on the lights and Lars’s eyes widened. A massive warehouse stretched out before them and countless items were neatly arranged on large racks.

"There is a warehouse underneath the building?!" Lars couldn’t believe his eyes.

"Of course. There is something I want you to have. It might help you fight them," Chou said.

He walked deeper into the warehouse before opening a box and throwing it toward Max.

Max caught it and opened the box. Both Lars and Max then were shocked by what they saw. Inside the box was a Rare-rank Class Book, Veiled Sorcerer.

"It may only be Rare-rank, but it’s one of the most unique classes we have. Take it and defeat that gang for us." Chou said with a smile.

"And make sure you two come back alive. I like to treat you both to some Chinese cuisine afterward," Lee suddenly said as he entered.

"Thank you, Old Man Chou. Old Man Lee. I really appreciate it."

Lars gave them a slight bow before a sudden jolt of pain shot through his abdomen, forcing him to straighten himself again. They then left the warehouse and returned to the surface.

"So, what are we going to do next, Lars?" Max asked.

Lars looked down at the new Class Book in his hand.

"We have no other choice but to find some allies," Lars said.

"And who are they?" Max asked.

"You already know them." Lars smirked.

Max’s eyes widened.

"Don’t tell me...you want to ask them ?"
