Chapter 59: Chapter 59 Desperate

"What do you mean you can’t give it back? That’s my account! I don’t think I’ve done anything wrong that would cause it to be suspended," Lars said.

"We’ve been monitoring your transaction history. It seems you’ve received a significant amount of money from selling your Class Books."

"However, after seeing the impact your Class Books have had on the market, we decided to stop you before you started monopolizing the Class Book market. Furthermore, Dungeon Hub has rules against market manipulation, artificial scarcity, or excessive concentration of Class Book sales." Beatrix explained.

"Tch!" Lars clicked his tongue in annoyance.

He had never expected things to develop like this. He began regretting how aggressively he had promoted his Class Books through the Bid Market.

"Then how about this? If you can’t return my account, can you at least give me the money from the bidding? I promise I won’t sell Class Books again through the Bid Market," Lars said as he tried to negotiate.

Right now, the money was the most important thing. As for his account, he believed he could simply create another one at a different Dungeon Hub and continue selling his Class Books there.

Beatrix nodded toward Valencia. Valencia then tapped something on her tablet screen.

"The bids from your three Class Books totaled 1.4 million Zents."

Lars swallowed hard when he heard the amount.

’1.4 million? I instantly become a millionaire with that! But no, I need to focus on Celine first. Someone’s life is at stake.’

Lars tried his best to remain composed.

"I can give you the money, but only after you answer one question. Where did you get all these Class Books?" Beatrix asked.

Lars had already known this question would eventually come. But, as usual, he would give them the same standard answer.

"I got them from dungeons. Is there a problem with that?" Lars replied.

"Hmm...that’s strange. We have checked the dungeons across the entire Rahiel state, but we couldn’t find a single record of those classes in any of the dungeon databases."

"If you really obtained them from a dungeon, they should have already been recorded in the database," Beatrix explained.

According to her, all loot obtained from dungeons was automatically recorded by the Dungeon Monitoring System, which was installed at every dungeon portal. The system tracked all possible drops from a dungeon, including their respective drop rates.

"If you want to lie, at least tell me something more believable," Beatrix said. She stood up and walked around her desk before stopping in front of it. She leaned her waist against the table and folded her arms.

Lars started to sweat. Most of the time, his lies were convincing enough to get him through difficult situations. But this time, he was facing a very dangerous opponent, someone who had control over the Dungeon Hub.

’Should I just leave the money behind? But how am I going to get the money for Celine?’

Lars fell into deep thought as his secret was slowly being exposed. And if that secret fell into the hands of this dangerous woman, it would be a disaster for Lars.

Lars then turned around. As much as he wanted the money, it wasn’t worth it if the price was revealing the secret behind his Class.

"So, you’ve decided not to tell me your secret, huh?" Beatrix smiled. "That’s fine. Just remember, I will always keep my eyes on you. And one day, your secret will be revealed to me."

Lars gave her one last sharp look before opening the door and leaving the office. His hand was clenched tightly as he struggled to contain his anger.

"Are we really just going to let him go like that?" Valencia asked.

"Yes. There’s no point in pushing him to the edge. Besides, I don’t think he’s a bad person. Don’t you think we’re the ones being evil here?" Beatrix asked.

"N-No, Lady Beatrix. We’re only doing this to regulate the market. That’s our job," Valencia replied.

"Don’t worry. After meeting us, I think he will think twice before selling his Class Books publicly again." Beatrix sighed before turning her gaze toward the view of District 21.

"Let’s see what you will do after this, Lars."

THUMP!

Lars punched the wall of the building. He and Max were already outside the Dungeon Hub.

"Damn it! Damn it! Damn it!" Lars shouted as he released all his anger, repeatedly punching the wall.

"I should have known this would eventually happen after everything was going so well..." Lars muttered before sliding down and sitting against the wall.

"Lars, calm down. This isn’t the end of the world. There must be another way to make money. We can raid dungeons and sell the loot. That’s something we can still do," Max said, trying to calm him down.

"But that’s not very profitable, and it takes a long time. I’m afraid Celine doesn’t have that much time to wait," Lars said.

Max frowned as he listened to Lars. It was true. If dungeon raiding alone were enough to make him rich, he would have already become wealthy after four years as hunter. It was only the money from selling Class Books that could dramatically improve their finances.

Lars then stood up.

"I think I will go back for now. Maybe I can think of something at my room," Lars said.

Max nodded before driving him back to his rented room. Upon arriving, Lars noticed some people standing near the building, as if they were keeping watch.

However, he had no time to think about it. He immediately entered his room. That night, he spent his time scrolling through the forum, reading some of the latest news using a guest account.

With a guest account, he could only read and reply to forum posts but he could not conduct any trades. After finding nothing interesting, he laid on his back.

"Sigh. I can’t rely on Dungeon Hub anymore to do business. Then how the hell am I supposed to make money?"

"Do I need to sell the Class Books underground? But I don’t have any contacts, and I don’t want to get involved in that shady business."

He let out a long sigh before looking back at his phone. Suddenly, he noticed an update from his sister, Layla. She was wearing the beautiful dress their mother had given her. The earrings Lars had given her were also on display.

"She looks really cute in that. I wonder if she already has a boyfriend." Lars smiled. "Those earrings really suit her. Luckily, I asked Melodie about what to buy."

Then suddenly, his eyes widened and his jaw dropped. He immediately sat upright.

"That’s it! There is Melodie!"
