Chapter 56: Chapter 56 Calm Before The Storm

Currently, Zane was biting the edge of her sleeve as she stared at her laptop screen, looking at Lars’s latest offers. Right now, only she and Aleph were in the office, as the other hunters were out raiding dungeons.

"Urgh! Why is that guy so stubborn about not joining my company? Was our offer too low or something?"

"If he joined us, all three of those classes would already be equipped by our hunters. It would also greatly increase our company’s income."

Just then, Aleph walked over to her desk and picked up one of the files.

"There’s no point dwelling on that anymore. Right now, we should focus on what we can do. Come on. Our potential investor is already waiting."

Zane let out a sigh before standing up. The two of them then left the office together.

Meanwhile, the man at the center of everything was riding his scooter with a wide smile on his face. Today, he was in an exceptionally good mood. The bidding for his Class Books had gone far better than he had expected.

"The last time I checked, Battle Reaper was already at 250,000 Zents, while Ice Warlock had reached 300,000 Zents. And it’s only been six hours."

"I wonder if they can actually hit 1 million Zents. If that happens, maybe it’s time for me to buy a workshop. Hmm... that is actually a pretty good idea."

Just as he was riding past a school zone, a young boy suddenly ran across the road right in front of him. Fortunately, Lars reacted in time, turning his scooter and narrowly avoiding both the boy and nearby rail.

"Hey, kid! Watch where you’re going! You could’ve gotten hurt!" Lars said as he looked at the boy.

However, he soon noticed the boy’s eyes beginning to well up with tears. A moment later, the child burst into tears. Lars pulled his scooter over to the side of the road before walking over to him.

"Are you hurt anywhere? Where are you trying to go?" Lars asked gently.

The boy shook his head. Between sobs, he managed to speak.

"Sniff...Sniff...daddy, my daddy hasn’t come to pick me up yet. Sniff..." The little boy rubbed both of his eyes as he continued crying.

Lars glanced at the boy before checking his watch. Primary school had ended about an hour ago. Fortunately, he wasn’t in a hurry. He had already arranged with Max and Justin to raid a dungeon tomorrow.

"Do you know where your house is? Do you want me to take you home?" Lars asked.

The boy nodded.

"Alright! Then don’t cry anymore, okay? I will take you home."

Lars gently patted the boy’s head, and the child gradually stopped crying. The boy sat in front of him on the scooter while Lars drove slowly. Fortunately, he had a spare helmet, although it was a little too big for the boy’s head.

"Can I know your name?" Lars asked.

"M-Mark. My name is Mark."

"Okay, Mark. You can call me Lars. How old are you?"

"Eight years old."

"I see."

A few minutes later, Lars noticed a white SUV broken down on the opposite side of the road. A woman was standing in front of it, checking the engine with a worried expression.

Suddenly, Mark shouted excitedly.

"That’s Mom’s car! That’s Mom’s!" He became so excited that the scooter started to wobble.

"Calm down, Mark! It’s dangerous." Lars carefully crossed to the other side of the road and stopped beside the woman.

"Mom!" Mark shouted.

"Ahh! Mark!"

The woman immediately rushed over and hugged her son tightly. Lars quietly observed her. She had long black hair and was dressed in a white business suit. At a glance, Lars could already tell she was a businesswoman.

"Thank you for bringing my son. May I know your name?" the woman asked as she turned toward Lars.

Lars flinched slightly when their eyes met. For a woman with an eight-year-old son, she looked remarkably young and beautiful, especially with her simple makeup.

"Err... my name is Lars. Is there a problem?" Lars asked as he tried to avoid eye contact and instead looked toward the engine.

"I don’t know. The engine warning lights suddenly started blinking. I’ve already called for assistance. They should be here shortly," the woman replied.

"I see. Maybe I can take a quick look at it," Lars offered.

He had some basic knowledge of automotive engineering from a course he took after graduating from high school, although he had never finished it.

After taking a closer look, Lars discovered that the problem came from the engine.

"I’m sorry, madam, but it looks like this car will have to stay at a garage for a while. The engine has a serious issue. You will need to call a tow truck," Lars explained.

"I see. Then I better call one," the woman replied."Thank you for your help."

"It’s nothing. If there’s nothing else, I will excuse myself now."

"Thank you, Uncle Lars!" Mark waved at him happily.

"Uncle?! Alright. Bye-bye, Mark." Lars waved back before riding away.

"Shoot! I forgot to ask for her name!" he muttered after he was already some distance away.

A few minutes later, a tow truck and a black car arrived beside the SUV. A group of large, muscular men stepped out.

"You’re late," the woman said coldly.

"Sorry, Boss. We just came back from delivering that items to a nearby district," one of the men replied.

"Whatever. Drive my son and me home."

The man immediately nodded and opened the car door for her. Moments later, the car drove away.

"Huuu...luckily the boss isn’t really in a bad mood today," the man muttered with relief.

"Quit talking, John! Hurry up. After we’re done with the boss’s car, we still have another customer to visit. What’s that customer’s name again? I always forget."

"I think...it’s Celine. Yeah, if I’m not mistaken." John replied before they began towing the SUV away.

Soon, Lars would become entangled in a conflict that would change his view of the world forever.
