Chapter 42: Chapter 42 Chase

Lars led the chase after the giant condor-like monster as he was sprinting across the rooftops. Vega and Ryuken followed closely behind, while Lucien trailed at the rear.

"Nice one, Lars! I like what you said back there!" Ryuken gave him a thumbs-up as he ran beside him. He had never expected Lars to raise his voice at Lucien, someone well known for his pride.

But Lars wasn’t in the mood to respond. Right now, his only focus was rescuing Justin. However, all of them soon noticed something strange about the bird.

"Why isn’t it flying any higher? It seems to be struggling to stay in the air," Ryuken said.

Lars’s eyes suddenly widened.

"The bag! It’s that ridiculously heavy bag! That’s why it can’t fly away!" Lars finally realized the reason.

That bag had nearly gotten Lars killed twice before. But now, it was the thing helping to save his friend.

As soon as Vega heard what Lars said, he immediately used Blink Step, appearing several blocks ahead. He then leaped into the air and activated the skill again, arriving directly beneath the giant condor monster.

"Damn it! He looks so cool!" Lars hated to admit it. Still, he quickened his pace.

Right now, he was still using the Impulse Lancer class. He didn’t dare switch to another class while surrounded by people with such sharp eyes as Vega and Lucien.

Meanwhile, Justin was struggling as the giant bird kept trying to peck at his bag. It seemed the monster also realized how heavy it was. But Justin would never allow anyone to touch his Mobile Server.

"Get your beak away, you stupid bird! If you leave even a scratch on it, I swear I will grill you!" Justin shouted. He then looked downward and saw Lars and the others rapidly catching up.

"Come on, guys! Hurry up and help me! This thing is trying to break my server!" he yelled.

Vega raised his hand toward the bird’s wings and fired Spectral Bolt. A fast magical projectile shot forward. Although it dealt only minimal damage, it consumed very little mana and had an extremely short cooldown.

Vega unleashed more than a dozen bolts at the monster’s wings.

"Kiraaak!!"

The giant condor screeched in pain.

"Lars! I will send you to that monster!" Ryuken shouted.

Lars nodded. He immediately jumped and landed on Ryuken’s muscular forearm.

Ryuken gritted his teeth as the veins on his arm bulged. Then, with all his strength, he swung his arm and launched Lars straight toward the giant condor.

However, he still fell a few meters short of reaching the monster. Without hesitation, Lars immediately activated Flash Skewer.

It was an attack that instantly allowed him to appear beside his target, provided it wasn’t too far away. In the next instant, he appeared on top of the giant condor. Without thinking any further, Lars launched a relentless assault.

"Impulse Swing!"

"Piercing Thrust!"

"Impulse Dash!"

He continued unleashing one attack after another. Blood began pouring from the monster’s body, but it still refused to fall.

’What is wrong with this monster? Is it actually a boss monster? ’ Lars wondered.

Below, Vega continued firing Spectral Bolts without stopping. Even Lucien, unexpectedly, joined in by using Desert Claw to strike the monster.

But the monster was incredibly resilient and refused to fall. Suddenly, as Lars continued attacking it, his eyes widened when he looked ahead.

"Hey, guys! In front of you!"

Ryuken, Vega, and Lucien were also caught by surprise. Right in front of them, there were no more houses.

Instead, the ground suddenly dropped into the city’s central district, which was built at a much lower level than the area they were currently in. Separating the two areas was a wide river flowing swiftly through the city, dividing the central district from its outer residential area.

"What are we going to do? Are we really going to jump?" Ryuken asked as he began slowing down. The truth was, he didn’t know how to swim.

Vega quickly assessed the situation, his eyes shifting between the giant condor and the river ahead.

"We don’t have a choice. We have to get onto that bird," he said.

"What?! Are you crazy?!" Ryuken shouted.

Lucien, who was running behind them, heard Vega’s words. To be honest, he hated water too. Without another word, he slammed his hand onto the ground.

Sand instantly gathered beneath them, forming a large circular platform. A massive pillar of sand suddenly erupted upward, launching all of them into the sky.

"Aaaahhhh!"

Ryuken screamed at the top of his lungs as he was sent flying. Vega and Lucien landed safely on the giant condor’s back. Ryuken, however, nearly fell off.

"I got you!" Lars quickly grabbed his hand before pulling him back up.

Vega immediately rushed toward the monster’s head and grabbed its feathers, preventing it from lowering its beak to attack Justin. Moments later, they flew past the river. High above the city, the endless rows of houses stretched out beneath them.

"Vega! Make sure this thing doesn’t crash!" Ryuken shouted.

"Hmmm?"

Max suddenly stopped running. He thought he had heard someone screaming. Right now, he and his group were in the middle of a long bridge spanning the river as they made their way toward the city’s central district.

He narrowed his eyes and spotted a bird flying a few hundred meters away.

"I thought I heard something...maybe it was just my imagination?" He tilted his head.

"Hey, Max! What are you doing? Come on!" Oscar shouted as he looked back.

Max quickly shook off the thought and continued running after the group.

After a few minutes, they finally arrived at the central district. What greeted them was anything but pleasant.

Many hunters lay injured, while bodies were scattered everywhere. It looked as though a natural disaster had just swept through the area.

However, it seemed that most of the hunters were no longer there. Suddenly, a hunter came running past them. Denis immediately stopped him.

"Where did everyone go?" he asked.

"They all headed straight toward the palace! The leaders of VolcaCorp and Golden Wing are leading the hunters!" the man shouted before continuing to run.

Zane’s eyes immediately widened.

"Iris is here as well? Now, this is getting interesting."

All of them immediately made their way toward the palace, where the climax of the battle was fast approaching.
