Chapter 39: Chapter 39 Gore

"There are so many of them!" Max muttered as he kicked one of the flying mantis monsters, instantly resetting the cooldown of Heaven Step. He immediately leaped back into the air and slashed a nearby monster, killing it instantly.

Because so many monsters were surrounding him, Max could continuously reset Heaven Step, allowing him to remain airborne for much longer.

Right now, he had already stayed in the air for nearly 60 seconds, and his damage had increased to 120%, making every attack devastating.

Right now, he had also purchased a new sword worth nearly 50 thousand Zents. Using both his life savings and the money he had received from Lars, he had managed to pay off part of the debt on his car, as well as some of his family’s debt.

At first, Max thought he would be able to clear all of the monsters. But soon, he realized it was becoming increasingly difficult to deal with the swarm as more and more monsters kept appearing.

"This is starting to get annoying! I need to find Lars and Justin quickly. Let’s finish this now."

Max was about to use Heavenly Cross Execution when flames suddenly erupted from the ground, incinerating several of the monsters. He looked down and frowned.

"Those people, they are here too?"

After spotting the Mazeltov group, he immediately decided to rely on them for the moment. He landed on the ground and dashed toward them.

"We meet again, Max!" Oscar greeted him.

Max simply nodded before turning to face the swarm of flying mantis monsters rushing toward them.

Just as he was about to swing his sword, every single flying mantis was suddenly sliced cleanly in half. All of them.

In an instant, every single monster was killed, leaving only the group standing there.

"What just happened?" Max asked in confusion.

He turned toward Sarah, who silently gestured for him to look at Zane. Only then did he realize it had been Zane’s skill.

"I never expected to meet you again here. Did you come into this Rogue Dungeon alone?" Zane asked with a smile.

Max thought carefully before answering.

’She definitely has a reason for asking that question. If I say I’m not alone, she will probably assume one of my companions is Anonymous214 and start looking for him.’

There was only one answer.

"Yeah. I’m alone." Max adjusted his goggles and smiled. "But man, I never expected this place to be so huge."

"Right! I feel the same way," Oscar said.

Zane looked at Max for a moment as their eyes met. Then, she closed her eyes and smiled.

"I see. Then, would you like to join our small group? It’s much safer to travel with more people," Zane asked.

After thinking for a moment, Max decided to join them for now. However, if he happened to run into Lars or Justin, he would leave the group immediately.

Back in the southern part of the city...

Lars was currently swinging his spear in rapid succession while equipped with the Impulse Lancer class.

Unexpectedly, he worked extremely well together with Ryuken.

With Impulse Lancer, his mobility greatly increased thanks to Impulse Dash and Flash Skewer. Whenever Lars attacked a monster, he would launch it straight toward Ryuken, who would finish it off with his overwhelming raw strength.

After a few minutes, dozens of monster corpses littered the ground.

"Pheew! That was intense! But I really like it! Lars, you’re amazing. Our teamwork is excellent. Hahaha!" Ryuken laughed as he patted Lars on the shoulder, making him wince in pain.

"I know. But how the hell are your attacks so damn strong? Did you take steroids or some kind of enhancer?" Lars asked.

"What are you talking about?! Of course not! I would never rely on those fake things. This is all the result of years of perseverance and dedication."

The three of them continued walking. Suddenly, Lars noticed a trail of blood stretching across the street. There was a lot of it.

"This blood is still fresh," Ryuken said as he touched it. It was still warm.

"We will follow this trail," Ryuken said.

"Excuse me... aren’t we supposed to go away from the blood trail, not toward it?" Justin asked nervously.

He was starting to feel anxious. Even so, he continued recording everything. He had attached his phone to his forehead, making it easier for him to move freely.

"We need to find out whose blood this is. Hopefully, it doesn’t belong to one of our people. Although, my group won’t go down that easily," Ryuken said confidently.

The three of them slowly followed the trail. Then, they saw it. The moment Lars laid eyes on the scene, he immediately vomited.

Ryuken frowned deeply, while Justin instinctively covered his mouth and nose with one hand.

The entire street was littered with human corpses. Severed limbs, torn bodies, and scattered internal organs such as livers, intestines and lungs were everywhere.

Most of the bodies were no longer intact, and blood covered the entire street, filling the air with a sickening stench.

"How horrible."

Ryuken then kicked one of the corpses over and examined its clothing. He did the same with a few of the others before narrowing his eyes.

"These people aren’t hunters. Judging by their clothes, they must be the citizens of this city," Ryuken said.

"People... living inside a dungeon?" Lars muttered as he wiped the vomit from his mouth.

Everything he had eaten the night before had already come back up. Before Ryuken could answer, a monster suddenly emerged from the darkness at the end of the street.

Its four glowing red eyes were fixed directly on them. As it drew closer, Lars finally saw its true appearance. It was a giant crocodile.

"Is that the monster that killed all these people?" Lars asked.

"I don’t know. But even if it isn’t, we still have to kill it." Ryuken cracked his knuckles.

However, just as they were about to attack, a massive explosion erupted behind them.

BOOM!!

All three of them immediately turned around. They saw two people sprinting down the street while being chased by a giant rhinoceros-like monster.

Ryuken frowned the moment he recognized one of them.

"Vega?!"

Lars’s eyes widened as he recognized the other person.

"Lucien?!"
