Chapter 411: Chapter 235: Lu Fan Buys a Luxury Car as a Gift; His Mother-in-Law Discovers an 18-Year-Old Secret
The affair with Zhao Tianyu caused an uproar on the Jinling University forums for three whole days.
On the first day, the university’s main forum pinned Zhao Tianyu’s public letter of apology to the top. ℯ
It was a rambling letter of over a thousand words, admitting that he had fabricated facts to slander Jiang Silu, that he had secretly taken her photo for the "Confessions Wall," paid for her contact information, and instructed his friends to post defamatory rumors.
You could tell from the writing style that he hadn’t written it himself, but his name was at the bottom, and his red thumbprint was stamped perfectly in place.
The post blew up.
Some celebrated, others were sarcastic, but most were just shocked.
Comments popped up one after another, refreshing so fast it was impossible to keep up.
"Holy shit, so he made up all those posts?"
"Is this guy sick? If you can’t have her, you destroy her?"
"That girl from the Landscape Architecture department has it so rough, being slandered like that."
"The slanderer must pay the price! I support the university taking action!"
"He’s a total disgrace to the Electronics department."
On the second day, a flood of posts supporting Jiang Silu began to appear on the forums.
Many students organized on their own and posted a long letter of support on the Confessions Wall.
The letter read: "Whether you know Jiang Silu or not, please remember that the victim should not bear the cost of slander. Support Silu, and stand against cyberbullying."
In the comments, someone posted a photo of Jiang Silu’s gold-medal-winning work from the previous Landscape Cup, saying she was talented.
Someone posted her usual report card, calling her the top student in the department.
Someone said they’d seen her in the library, always quiet and never talking much, and that she clearly wasn’t that kind of person.
Someone else posted a comment that got the most likes: "She did nothing wrong. She was just targeted by a disgusting person. We support her not because we pity her, but because she deserves it."
Jiang Silu read through them one by one, her eyes turning red.
She remembered that day in the classroom. When she’d slapped him, her hand had been trembling.
She thought everyone would see her as a shrew.
But they didn’t.
Everyone was helping her.
Song Miaomiao handed her phone over, pointing to a comment. "Silu, look. This upperclassman said she’s seen you in the cafeteria, that you always eat alone in a corner reading a book, really quiet."
Lu Yao leaned in too. "And this one! It says you helped a freshman find a book in the library, and they still remember you."
"Silu, you’re not alone. We’ll all help you," Liu Shiting said comfortingly.
Jiang Silu nodded and put the phone down.
She didn’t cry, but her nose tingled with the urge to.
She felt increasingly grateful that so many people were helping her.
Suddenly, it felt like everyone around her was so kind.
Meanwhile, in Zijin Manor, Jiali stood before Lu Fan, reporting on the Zhao Family’s situation.
"Boss, Hengchang Building Materials has officially sent a contract termination letter. Of the other four suppliers, three have agreed to cooperate, but one is still hesitating." Jiali opened her tablet and handed it over.
Lu Fan leaned back in his chair, glanced at the tablet, and said calmly, "The one that’s hesitating... look into their books. Few in the building materials business are clean. Once you find something, hand it directly to the tax bureau."
Jiali nodded. "Understood."
Lu Fan continued, "Keep an eye on Zhao Deming. If he accepts his loss quietly, this ends here. But if he still tries to stir up trouble, then don’t blame me for being ruthless."
"Yes, Boss."
"Let’s go. To Yangcheng."
In the world of business warfare, Lu Fan was never one to keep his promises. Even though Zhao Tianyu had already publicly apologized as he demanded and was in administrative detention.
But then again, the boy had messed with his precious daughter.
It was already generous of him not to have run their family into bankruptcy.
In a flower shop in Yangcheng, Jiang Yixia was arranging a new shipment of lilies.
She held a pair of shears, trimming the stems one by one with skilled and meticulous movements.
The wind chime on the door jingled.
Jiang Yixia looked up and saw Lu Fan.
"Looks like you’re not busy today," she said, her hands never stopping their work.
Lu Fan walked in, leaned against the counter, and said with a smile, "I missed you, so I came to see you."
Jiang Yixia shot him a look, her face flushing as she retorted, "Such a smooth talker."
"Something happened with Silu. Did you know?" Lu Fan didn’t seem to mind her comment and continued on his own.
The shears in Jiang Yixia’s hands stopped. She looked up at him. "What happened to Silu?"
Lu Fan explained the whole story.
From Zhao Tianyu approaching her, to the secret photos on the Confessions Wall, to the slander on the forums, and finally, to the confrontation in the university meeting room.
He told it in great detail, but without exaggeration or embellishment.
When he finished, Jiang Yixia’s face had turned a little pale.
She put down the shears and asked nervously, "Is Silu okay?"
Lu Fan shook his head. "She’s fine. She was just upset and had a cry, but she’s all right now."
"That child... she’s never told me about these things, not since she was little. Every time I ask, she just says everything is fine," Jiang Yixia said with a sigh.
"She’s afraid of making you worry," Lu Fan explained.
Jiang Yixia didn’t reply, lowering her head to continue trimming the flowers.
After a moment, she suddenly said, "Isn’t Jinling University a good school? How can it have students like that?"
Lu Fan smiled and replied, "It’s a big world, full of all kinds of people. These rich kids have had access to the best educational resources since they were young, so of course they do well on exams. But good test scores don’t mean good character. The ones who are spoiled growing up become arrogant and feel they can do anything they want."
"Speaking of which, Silu and Sifan never had a single tutoring session growing up. For them to get into a school in Jinling is already quite an achievement," Jiang Yixia said, nodding with a hint of emotion.
Lu Fan looked at her and said earnestly, "That’s because you raised them well."
