Chapter 128: Bait

The man lost his balance and fell heavily to the ground.

Only then did Ni Mengxue see who it was.

It was Ford.

Ni Mengxue chuckled. "I shouldn’t have shown any mercy to you people."

She waved her hand. The next second, Forde’s entire body was covered in ice, instantly turning him into an ice sculpture.

The other ex-husbands began trembling in fear. They had never expected to encounter such a powerful opponent.

"Go! Let’s leave! She is a demoness!"

"Quickly!"

One by one, they scrambled away from the RV.

Ni Mengxue stepped back inside and slammed the door shut. She truly didn’t want to see those idiots’ faces anymore.

Once inside, she massaged her forehead.

Meanwhile, Melanie was completely stunned. She had never expected Ni Mengxue to be this ruthless.

Ni Mengxue calmly glanced at her. "This is exactly the kind of trash I was talking about. I told you not to bring it inside."

Melanie’s lips twitched. "You were the one who let them in for money!"

Melanie became even angrier. "Are you even listening to yourself? Are you even human? I don’t want to talk to you anymore. I’m leaving."

She turned around.

Just then, a system prompt appeared in Ni Mengxue’s mind.

Ni Mengxue frowned. ’This system... wasn’t it upgrading just now? Why is it giving me another death-prevention mission?’

She quickly called out, "Stop! It was my mistake. I shouldn’t have shouted at you."

"You’re always like this! I warned you not to mistreat your husband, but you ignored me and even insulted me. I warned you that your so-called best friend was a bitch, and you ignored me again!"

Her voice trembled. "Ni Mengxue, you don’t take me seriously at all! You invite trouble, and in the end, I’m the one who gets blamed. I’m truly fed up!"

With that, Melanie began sobbing and collapsed onto the ground.

Ni Mengxue stared at her for a moment.

She didn’t really feel as though she had done anything wrong. Melanie had already suffered enough emotional blows today, and this was probably a complete breakdown.

Still, Ni Mengxue couldn’t deny that she had contributed to it. She sighed and walked over.

Then she crouched down and hugged Melanie, gently patting her back. "All right, all right. It was my mistake. I won’t ignore you from now on."

Melanie sobbed. "You’re lying. You always say that to coax me, but then you turn around and do exactly what I warned you not to do."

Ni Mengxue sighed. "All right. I understand. I’ll keep it in mind."

Melanie finally fell silent.

After spending the night there, the group continued their journey and soon arrived at Silent Knight Base.

At the entrance, each person was charged a hundred zombie crystals.

Ni Mengxue glanced at the high entry fee but didn’t say anything.

Once the RV entered the base, she immediately noticed the greedy gazes directed toward it.

At the same time, she covered her nose.

The stench of human waste, body odor, and rotting garbage assaulted her senses. Even inside the RV, the smell seeped through the small opening she had left ajar.

She quickly closed the window.

Looking outside, Ni Mengxue’s expression became serious.

Nearly ninety-five percent of the base was occupied by cramped, filthy residential areas, while only a small portion belonged to the wealthy and powerful.

Even if she wanted to recruit people from the slums, it could cost her a lot.

After all, many people living in slums had long since become ruthless. Ni Mengxue had personally seen how thieves from the slums repeatedly eyed her house back in Swan Base.

So, she highly suspected that Silent Knight Base would be any different.

Just as she was thinking about this, someone suddenly ran in front of her RV.

Fu Lin slammed on the brakes. The vehicle stopped just in time.

If Fu Lin hadn’t been fast enough to move or smart enough to time his actions, the man would have already been crushed beneath the RV.

However, instead of looking frightened, the man seemed disappointed that he hadn’t managed to get himself killed.

He gritted his teeth and groaned. "Ouch! Ouch!"

In an instant, a crowd gathered around the RV.

When Ni Mengxue saw the scene, the corner of her lips twitched.

’A scammer? So even in the apocalypse, this kind of trick still exists?’

She maintained her calm expression, stepped out of the RV, and chuckled.

"Wow. Scammers really do have a unique mindset. Do you think we don’t have cameras installed on our RV?"

The moment she said that, the man lying on the ground immediately jumped to his feet and dusted off his clothes.

He gave Ni Mengxue an awkward smile.

"It was a mistake. I was just having a cramp from working too much. I wasn’t planning to blame your car. Please don’t take it seriously. Just pretend I farted."

With that, he turned around and tried to walk away.

Someone in the crowd suddenly pinched their nose. "Oh my God! What is that rotten smell? Did that guy really fart?"

The others immediately covered their noses as well.

Ni Mengxue was stunned.

’The unity of these scammers is truly something to admire.’

One by one, the crowd dispersed.

Seeing that the trouble had been resolved, Ni Mengxue sighed and returned to the RV.

The vehicle soon reached the inner area of Silent Knight Base.

There were actually two walls inside the base.

The outer wall surrounded the massive slum area, while a second inner wall protected the wealthy and powerful residents.

Ni Mengxue couldn’t help but wonder if the slum residents were treated more like bait than citizens.
