CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 280: WINGS OF SPACE AND SHADOW
The ancient runes of the Calamity Forge blazed with fierce crimson-gold light, surrounding Old Bones in an intricate pillar of spatial and kinetic energy. At the center of the array, the dark elf sat cross-legged, his breathing slow and measured as the divine essences began their violent integration into his soul.
Caius watched silently from the edge of the dais, his Tri-Pupil Eye of the Void tracing every thread of mana weaving through the forge.
Inside Old Bones’ chest, the pristine grey mana core spun at blinding speeds. First, the Shadow Wolf’s claw essence dissolved into his bloodline. The kinetic shadow energy surged through his nervous system, sharpening his senses to impossible thresholds and coating his muscles in hyper-dense shadow lattice. His shadow-perception expanded instantly, allowing him to feel every micro-vibration in the hall's obsidian stones.
Then came the Three-Eyed Crow’s two-feather essence.
An agonizing spatial shockwave erupted within his core. The dual-mana, a volatile fusion of spatial darkness and golden solar light, struck his grey core like a hammer upon an anvil. Spatial fractures flickered around his body, tearing and reforming the air around his skin.
Yet, Old Bones did not utter a single cry. For six centuries, he had endured the cold solitary grind of the assassin’s path; this divine pain was a small price for ascension. He channeled his unyielding dark elf willpower, using his rare grey core as a pristine sponge to absorb and harmonize the spatial-shadow forces.
His physical form began to change. The subtle lines of fatigue and age carved by six hundred years of wandering melted away from his sharp, dark-skinned features. His ears lengthened slightly, tipped with faint glowing runes, and his dark eyes transformed, his irises shifting into swirling pools of silvery-grey and obsidian starlight.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Suddenly, a deafening crack of folded space vibrated through the inner hall.
From between Old Bones' shoulder blades, two massive tears in space ripped open. A surge of ink-black spatial mana erupted from his back, condensing rapidly into two magnificent, six-foot obsidian wings.
Unlike normal feathered wings, these wings were forged from hyper-dense spatial shadow. Each feather was an ethereal blade of razor-sharp obsidian, rimmed with a faint, shimmering thread of golden solar-spatial light. As they unfurled with a crisp, metallic rustle, the air surrounding Old Bones warped, bending light and sound into a phantom blur.
The light of the Calamity Forge slowly dimmed, leaving the inner hall in quiet reverence.
Old Bones stood up slowly. With a gentle twitch of his mind, his two obsidian wings folded neatly against his back like a mantle of dark liquid glass, then phase-shifted completely into sub-dimensional space, disappearing from sight until summoned. He stepped off the forge platform, his movement completely soundless, as if he were stepping through shadows rather than touching the stone floor.
Dropping to a knee before Caius, Old Bones bowed his head low, his voice carrying a resonant, multi-layered spatial echo.
"My Sovereign," Old Bones spoke softly, raising his right hand as a feather of pure spatial shadow danced across his fingertips. "My core has expanded threefold. Space bends at my step, and the shadows speak your name."
Caius looked down at his steward, a rare, genuine smile touching his lips. "You are no longer merely a broker who operates in the dark, Old Bones. You are the shadow hand of my dominion."
Old Bones stood up, flexing his slender fingers as his two obsidian wings flickered softly behind him, casting long, razor-sharp shadows across the throne room.
"Then let the realms beware," the dark elf steward murmured, a cold, elegant glint returning to his silver-grey eyes. "Your shadow hand is ready to harvest."
