CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 278: THE RED SENTINEL KNIGHTS
Standing in the shadow of the central plaza, the one hundred and three Barbarian wall sentries stood at absolute attention. These towering warriors, who had guarded the double-ringed walls of the citadel with brutal stoicism, looked toward the grand steps of the first pyramid, the Pyramid of the Sentinel. Flanked by massive, armored sentinels carved from deep subterranean granite, the pyramid’s stone walls pulsated with intricate kinetic defensive matrices, heavily reinforced by the warm, unyielding glow of radiant solar preservation.
Caius stood before the imposing structure, his cloak sweeping across the marble terrace as his golden-and-obsidian gaze swept over the assembly. "You have held my walls with steel and blood," Caius declared, his sovereign voice reverberating off the stone. "Now, you shall step into the vault of the Sentinel. You will not break. You will become the unyielding shield of this sovereign seat."
With a thunderous rumble, the massive iron-bound gates swallowed the warriors into its glowing, runic depths. Inside, the trials tested physical resilience and iron will. First came the Trial of Kinetic Resilience, where localized shockwaves battered their muscles, forcing their bodies to absorb and harmonize with the violent vibration. Next, the Trial of Solar Preservation purged every physical frailty, fusing their bones into dense, indestructible ivory-steel. Finally, the Communion of the Shield demanded absolute devotion to the fortress.
Because of their innate toughness and unwavering loyalty, not a single Barbarian stumbled.

When the heavy gates ground open once more, a pulse of crimson and golden light poured across the court. All one hundred and three warriors stepped out, encased in thick crimson-and-gold plate armor carved from kinetic obsidian and solar steel. Glowing red runes burned across their breastplates, and heavy, rectangular tower shields hummed with active kinetic barriers. They had ascended into the Red Sentinel Knights, the indestructible, elevated guardians of the central citadel.
Dropping to a single knee in thunderous unison, their massive tower shields slammed against the basalt floor as they swore their eternal vigil. High above on the terrace, Caius slowly raised his hand, channeling a thread of divine origin energy straight into the central star-node network.
"The knights are merely his physical arm on the ground," Caius murmured to Old Bones as the city trembled beneath them. "A true sovereign fortress requires an eternal, unblinking mind."
Lines of kinetic solar light erupted from the base of the first pyramid, scaling the outer walls and connecting directly into the central citadel. High in the sky, a colossal, hundred-foot spectral avatar of The Sentinel coalesced, holding a monumental tower shield before merging its soul seamlessly into every stone, wall, and gate.
From that moment forward, The Sentinel existed everywhere within the citadel, feeling every footprint upon the battlements and projecting kinetic solar barriers wherever danger threatened.
Old Bones looked out over the quiet, glowing city, bowing low. "A living fortress with a divine Sentinel watching over its people... Æthrynn is no longer just a stronghold. It is a living god of stone and steel."
