CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 272: THE PATH OF THE FOUR PYRAMIDS

The vast, black basalt assembly court of the inner citadel hummed with intense, suppressed energy. Gathered in rigid, disciplined formations were twelve thousand five hundred bead-bound legionnaires, a diverse host of hardened human veterans alongside Croc-head, Bull-head, and Bird-head beastfolk. Standing beside them were the one thousand towering Orc Obsidian Elites, while off to the flank, the one hundred and three Barbarians and one hundred and three Dark Elves maintained a watchful, silent vigil.

Caius stood upon the elevated marble dais before the central dark pool, his voice carrying clearly across the court like a resonant bell.

"You have purged this world with steel and blood," Caius declared, scanning the silent ranks. "Now, it is time to forge your strength into something far greater. Four of our sacred node pyramids are officially open to receive warrior initiates. You will be the first among those who will join our sovereign ascension."

He gestured outward toward the towering black monoliths ringing the plaza:

The Pyramid of the Black Flame Demon: Inscribed with swirling hellfire runes depicting infernal darkness infused with blinding solar heat.

The Pyramid of the Black Sabre-Tiger: Carved with lunging feline statues surrounded by jagged, violet lightning iconography crowned with white kinetic plasma.

The Pyramid of the Obsidian Archangel: Crowned with towering, four-feathered wing reliefs depicting celestial grace elevated by golden solar authority.

The Pyramid of the Shadow Wolf: Etched with depictions of hunting packs running through a celestial shadow domain interwoven with threads of pure solar light.

Caius turned his golden-and-obsidian gaze directly toward the towering green behemoths. "One thousand Orcs, your path lies exclusively within the Pyramid of the Black Sabre-Tiger. Master the kinetic lightning of the feline deity."

The massive Orc General merely raised his tea cup in acknowledgment from his shade canopy, lazily gesturing for his one thousand behemoths to move out. Grunting in unison, the Orcs marched toward the feline statues. Drawn by the promise of raw kinetic force and violent lightning, three thousand Croc-heads and three thousand Bull-heads eagerly fell into step behind them, creating a massive, seven-thousand-strong host surging into the dark archway of the Sabre-Tiger.

Across the court, two thousand sharp-eyed Bird-head warriors moved as one, drawn instinctively toward the soaring, four-feathered reliefs of the Pyramid of the Obsidian Archangel. As they crossed the threshold, the stone corridors inside hummed with compressed spatial currents, ready to reshape their wings into instruments of divine aerial warfare.

Caius then looked toward the four thousand five hundred human legionnaires. "Those among you who stalk the night, scouts, skirmishers, and swift blades, seek the Shadow Wolf. The rest, step into the hellfire of the Black Flame Demon."

A swift detachment of fifteen hundred human scouts and rangers broke off toward the Pyramid of the Shadow Wolf, disappearing into corridors wreathed in twilight shadows. Hearing the Sovereign's advice for the main vanguard, the red-haired general grinned, unsheathing his broadsword with a sharp ring of metal. "You heard the Sovereign! To the Demon, move out!" Three thousand heavy legionnaires marched in tight, iron-shod ranks behind him, plunging into the roaring thermal heat of the infernal trials.

Finally, Caius looked down at the One Hundred and Three Barbarians and One Hundred and Three Dark Elves standing stoically on the flank.

"For the rest of you, I have a separate plan," Caius announced calmly. "While your brethren undergo their trials, you shall guard the city and hold our perimeter secure."

The Barbarians slammed their fists against their leather harnesses, and the Dark Elves bowed in silent obedience, immediately fanning out across the double-ringed walls to weave invisible security wards.

As the last initiate crossed the thresholds, the massive obsidian doors of the four pyramids ground shut with a deafening, unified boom. Sealed deep within the earth, thousands of warriors took their first steps into the elemental trials, while above, the new citadel stood quiet and unassailable under the watchful eyes of its guardians.
