CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 271: THE TEN THOUSAND EYES

  • Next Chapter

Once the grand spectacle atop the ziggurat concluded, the seven bound summons dissolved into streams of golden solar fire and dark spatial mist. They retreated into the depths of Caius’s crown core, settling in to bask in the infinite reservoir of his dual origin energy.

Leaving the cheering crowds behind, Caius descended deep into the subterranean chambers beneath the Pyramid of the Arachne Princess. He bypassed the upper barracks and vault levels, following a twisting spiral stair cut directly into the planet’s bedrock until the air turned cold and dense with the scent of damp stone and silk.

At the lowest level lay the heart of Caius's realm-wide shadow network, the Hall of Ten Thousand Eyes.

Extending from the ceiling and walls was a staggering web of translucent spatial silk, vibrating with a faint, steady hum. Millions of fine, thread-like conduits radiated outward from the central chamber, piercing through the subterranean bedrock and stretching into the deep void. These monumental spatial pathways had been meticulously laid down span by span by relentless Arachne brood networks, weaving through subterranean caverns across Æthrynn, bridging the gaping chasms between conquered worlds, and stretching endlessly through the dark cosmos until they finally anchored deep within the Abyss Realm, the shadowed homeland where Caius's empire first began.

Each brood nest, buried deep within subterranean caverns or mountain ridges, was led by a dog-sized Arachne brood-keeper accompanied by hundreds of palm-sized spider-scouts. These living lenses roamed the cities, mountain passes, and spatial boundaries undetected. Their multi-faceted eyes captured every whisper, troop movement, and atmospheric shift, converting the sights into spiritual echoes that traveled along the silk threads straight back to the citadel.

At the center of the hall stood a massive monolith of pitch-black obsidian crystal, acting as a divine scrying vault that recorded and mirrored every incoming vision.

Surrounding the obsidian pillar were the Arachne Queen Mother and four Arachne Princesses. Perched upon elevated webbed thrones, their multi-jointed arms and pedipalps moved in a blinding, rhythmic blur. With terrifying grace and speed, their eight eyes tracked thousands of shifting visual echoes simultaneously, sifting through the realm's endless flow of intelligence.

Caius stepped onto the silk-covered stone, his boots silent against the floor.

"Send a spatial resonance through the master thread," Caius commanded, his voice echoing in the vast vault. "Target the anchor in the Home Realm."

The Queen Mother bowed her crowned head. Plucking a thick, shimmering spatial thread attached to the central obsidian monolith, she sent a sharp pulse of dual mana rippling into the darkness. The energy surged through the subterranean web, shooting into the void toward their distant origin world.

Silence descended upon the chamber. For five tense minutes, Caius stood before the dark pillar, watching the faint vibrations along the master thread.

Then, the obsidian monolith hummed.

A clear, resonant spatial echo bounced back through the thread, pulsing twice against the black stone before settling into a warm, stable hum.

The connection across the vast cosmic gulf was absolute.

Satisfied, a cold, calculating glint flashed in Caius’s eyes. "It is time to summon the full might of our domain. Transmit this decree through the thread."

The Queen Mother and the four Princesses raised their hands, their fingers resting upon the master lines, ready to encode his words into spiritual pulses.

"Awaken the 1st Elite Orc Legion from their slumber," Caius dictated, his voice carrying the absolute weight of a God-King. "Send word to Steward Vane to begin aggressive recruitment across the dark elf battle-houses, the mage guilds, and the barbarian tribes."

He paused, letting the silk threads catch the resonance before continuing.

"Command our bead-bound Orc Shamans to ride into the Shattered Steppes; tell them to rally the orc clans, for I want no fewer than thirty thousand orc warriors assembled under our banner. To Grand Commander Teryn, order the immediate mobilization of the Order of the Black Sun, and sweep the five human cities for every able-bodied recruit willing to bleed."

Caius leaned closer to the obsidian pillar, his golden-and-obsidian eyes reflecting off the dark stone.

"In exactly one year’s time, the grand host will march through the spatial conduits. A humanoid Arachne weaver will meet them at the border to guide them through the void straight to the Red Realm and the gates of my new citadel."

He lowered his voice, letting a dangerous, intoxicating promise ripple through the web.

"Tell them what awaits those who march: endless spoils of war, sovereign domain over conquered worlds, and the divine gift of elevated power."

With a final, sharp click of her pedipalps, the Queen Mother struck the master line. The sovereign decree dissolved into a blinding pulse of silver-and-gold light, racing through the deep spatial void to rouse an entire empire for war.
