CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 246: WHITE BONES
Stepping through the Veyuun Gate, Caius and Old Bones emerged into a harsh, alien domain. Above them stretched a bruised red sky, desolate and grim, while the jagged landscape below was dominated by scattered, rumbling volcanoes and glowing rivers of molten magma carving through black stone.
Caius’s eyes narrowed as he sampled the atmospheric energy. It wasn't just ambient mana; it was pure, unadulterated rot. The entire atmosphere felt diseased, a suffocating miasma that carried a corrupting plague capable of eating away at living conduits.
Sensing the immediate threat, Caius turned to his companion. "Old Bones, enter the dimension stud immediately," Caius commanded, his voice dead serious. "The air here acts like a disease. If you remain exposed, it will rot your mana core from within."
Without hesitation, the dark elf steward nodded and dissolved back into a vacant Crown Core spatial rift.
Caius remained seated beneath a rocky overhang, surrounded by the oppressive crimson gloom, his eyes closed as his mind searched for an answer. The Red Horde hunted shadow energy, and the realm's atmospheric rot threatened to destroy his troops from the inside out. He had weighed complex filtering arrays, warding barriers, and spatial bubbles, trying to solve both problems at once.
Then, mid-calculation, a sudden realization hit him. A dry, quiet laugh escaped his lips at the sheer, insane simplicity of it.
He possessed a dual core matrix, Obsidian and Solar. Up until now, his forces operated almost entirely on dark, shadowy frequencies. Why craft elaborate defenses when he could simply invert the operational polarity of his entire army?
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
Turning his internal mechanics inward, Caius activated the principle of the Calamity Forge. Instead of using black flames to burn away impurities from foreign beast cores, he reversed the process. Drawing upon his pure Solar Mana, he forged a blazing golden-white furnace that enveloped his Obsidian core, sealing his shadow pathways beneath a radiant, golden shell.
Shifting his consciousness into the Crown Core, Caius took the madness further. He manifested thousands of glowing, golden-white mana threads, extending them throughout the Mind Sea. One by one, he pierced every summon, beast, and elite construct bound to his stone table and court nodes. With agonizing, surgical precision, he forced the solar energy through their energy pathways, wrapping their dark, necrotic matrices in layers of blinding light.
For seven straight days, Caius remained submerged in this painstaking re-engineering process.
When he finally emerged, he turned his attention to his main army, the 1,350 elite Obsidian soldiers and the Arachne unit, transmitting a specialized Solar Cultivation Art directly through their essence beads, bypassing the tethered slave army for now.
Communicating through the core link, his voice echoed in their minds: "I give you all ten days to master this cultivation art to filter the corrupted air and mask your shadow signatures. Those who conquer this realm alongside me will wear a badge of honor."
Driven by loyalty and the desire for the badge of honor, the 1,350 elite warriors and the Arachne unit immediately fell into deep, disciplined meditation.
On the third day, the air beside Caius rippled. A figure stepped out from the dimension stud, and Caius paused, staring in genuine amusement.
Old Bones stood before him, completely transformed. Gone was the shadowy, terrifying specter of death. In his place stood an entity wrapped in pristine, ivory robes, radiating a celestial, righteous glow that made him look like a holy sage who had spent centuries meditating on a mountain peak.
Caius looked at the former assassin and broke into a laugh. "I'll call you White Bones now."
Old Bones adjusted his glowing sleeves and muttered flatly, "Very funny, my Sovereign."
