CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 245: THE SEVENTH NODE

The Expeditionary Army and the newly reinforced tethered host established a heavily fortified camp directly before the towering archway of the fourth Veyuun Gate. Across the blood-soaked valley, Arachne Drones swarmed in disciplined silence, stripping weapons, sorting armor, and processing biomass.

The battle had taken its toll on the frontline, as the original tethered army was reduced to 18,000 survivors. However, Caius had already embedded black essence beads into 3,000 newly captured bird-head prisoners, bolstering the auxiliary ranks to 21,000 strong. Among the slaves, relief washed over them as they realized they would live another day. Whispers passed through their ranks in hushed terror, for none could forget the sight of his six unstoppable puppets tearing through thirty thousand warriors, nor the moment their yoke master casually snatched the three-meter divine crow out of the sky like a piece of candy.

Inside the central command tent, Caius’s physical body rested in deep, motionless meditation. Outside, Old Bones stood motionless in the shadows, his prime middle-aged dark elf physique exuding a quiet presence while flanked by the stoic, iron ranks of the Heavy Obsidian Vanguard guarding their master's sanctuary.

Deep within his mental space, Caius’s consciousness materialized upon the central island of the Mind Sea Temple.

Before him stood the three-eyed crow, its three-meter wingspan trembling against the stone. Surrounding the temple court on their designated outer nodes stood the court’s Apex Entities: the multi-limbed Arachne Princess, the magma-veined Black Flame Demon, the violet-sparking Black Sabre-Lightning Tiger, the colossal Shadow Knight, the six-winged Obsidian Seraph, and the shadowy, looming form of the Shadow Wolf.

Six pairs of eyes filled with lethal, hungry pressure locked onto the avian beast, waiting for the slightest command from Caius to tear the intruder apart.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

Caius looked down at the crow, his voice echoing with absolute authority. "Submit. Give me your essence bead."

Terrified by the suffocating aura of the six entities encircling it, the three-eyed crow let out a choked cry. Without a moment of hesitation, it used its own beak to gouge out its glowing, dark core essence bead, offering it up on bended neck.

Caius caught the bead, a faint smile touching his lips. "Move to your circle."

The crow scrambled into its designated outer court node. The moment its talons touched the stone, it gasped as the thick, dual solar-darkness energy of Caius's black obsidian core flooded its frame, nourishing its soul.

Caius walked up to the Stone Table Spiral and pressed the newly acquired essence bead firmly into the seventh slot.

THUMMMMM!

The entire Mind Sea Temple shuddered violently. A torrent of pitch-black obsidian mana erupted from the table, surging directly into the seventh court node. The dark energy wrapped around the three-eyed crow, forming a massive, dense mana egg that pulsed with primordial force.

CRACK. CRACK. BANG!

The mana egg shattered.

From the dark fragments emerged the three-eyed crow, its body now seven times larger, its feathers glinting like black steel, and its three eyes burning with sevenfold necrotic and solar intensity. Feeling the divine surge in its veins, the giant beast lowered its massive head, pressing its beak to the stone in absolute, eternal subjugation.

In the physical world, Caius opened his eyes.

As he stood up and brushed off his cloak, a miniature, ethereal phantom of the transformed three-eyed crow materialized out of thin air, perching silently upon his right shoulder.

Old Bones, who had felt the violent shudder of core energy ripple through the tent moments prior, turned as Caius stepped outside. The dark-skinned specter paused, for Caius’s violet-gold eyes now burned deep and radiant, saturated with a suffocating, refined pressure that made the surrounding air hum.

Caius glanced toward the swirling, stable portal of the Veyuun Gate ahead. "Let's enter the gate," Caius said quietly.
