CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 244: THE THREE-EYED CROW

  • Next Chapter

The sky ruptured with a sickening, metallic screech. Down through the crackling spatial rift descended a monumental creature, a colossal, three-eyed crow whose jet-black plumage absorbed the light, its third eye burning at the center of its skull with suffocating, volatile death mana.

Below, the avian army shrieked in euphoric worship, raising their spears to their divine guardian. The crow opened its massive beak, channeling a black wave of necrotic energy to wipe the tethered army from the earth.

Caius stopped sipping his tea. Setting his porcelain cup down onto the obsidian table with a quiet clink, his gaze locked onto the descending monstrous bird, and he moved.

Fwip.

Before the beast could discharge a single spark, Caius vanished from his chair.

In a microscopic fraction of a second, he materialized directly above the crow's massive head. With a casual sweep of his hand, he unleashed a dense web of glowing divine threads, weaving them into a pressurized net that descended over the titanic beast. The divine net snapped shut around the colossal form, instantly suppressing its core, smothering its volatile death mana, and binding its struggling wings. As the sacred threads dug deep and compressed its immense power, the monstrous crow rapidly shrank, its massive body folding and condensing in on itself until it was reduced to the size of a tiny, fluttering songbird.

A heartbeat later, Caius flickered back to his seat beside Old Bones, idly holding the tightly bound, squirming little creature in one hand. He let out a dark, amused chuckle.

Across the valley, the avian commander’s mouth hung open in absolute, paralyzed horror. Their supreme divine god had been captured in less than three seconds.

"A fine addition, Sovereign," Old Bones rasped softly from his prime middle-aged dark elf physique, watching the captive deity twitch.

"Indeed," Caius murmured, tossing the snared beast into a vacant spatial stud. Setting his tea cup back down, his violet-gold eyes turned cold. "Now, clear the field."

Caius tapped the dark obsidian studs on his brow, tearing open a jagged, black spatial rift directly inside the dense center of the enemy ranks.

Out surged his mechanical nightmare. The towering, blindfolded form of Krag’gath hit the ground with an Iron Siege Breaker, shattering defensive shields into splinters. Beside him, Borgath erupted into a Flesh-Tearer Frenzy, slicing through armor with terrifying speed, while Thrum slammed obsidian fists into the earth, unleashing a superheated Caldera Shockwave that ruptured the ground beneath thousands.

From the rear, Mal’kor raised his dragon-bone staff, flooding the field with corroding Necrotic Miasma, while Gor’muka swept through fleeing lines in a whirlwind of Dire-Fang Pursuit. Leading the vanguard was High Lord Lorien, wearing his crude, golden-painted iron crown in deliberate mockery, channeling High Lord's Dominion as his lightning-reinforced frame dismantled the avian elite. Slipping through the shadows, the seven Vel’xul Stalkers whipped blade dreadlocks and poison tails, decapitating remaining officers before they could utter a command.

The battle turned into an absolute slaughterhouse. In less than an hour, thirty thousand bird-heads were butchered on the blood-slicked earth. Fewer than five thousand survived, either scattering into the mountains in blind terror or casting down their weapons in utter surrender.

Old Bones looked over at Caius and let out a soft, dry sigh. A sudden realization dawned upon the gaunt dark elf, as he noted that Caius hadn't deployed the full force of his puppets out of tactical necessity. He had unleashed complete, overwhelming annihilation simply to wrap up the battle in minutes so he could sit back down and play with his new toy.

Caius was already leaning back in his chair, tapping the glowing surface of the newly occupied dimension stud. A sharp, dangerous glint burned in his violet eyes as he peered inside to inspect the squirming, helpless beast, the exact look of a cruel child who had just caught a rare insect in a jar.

Old Bones shuddered beneath his dark-silk sleeves, casting a glance toward the dark stud with a rare flicker of sympathy. He felt genuinely sorry for the three-eyed crow; whatever dissection, core extraction, or puppet reanimation Caius had planned for it, death would have been a mercy.
