CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows
CHAPTER 178: THE CROWN OF SUN AND ASH
The final echoes of the divine choir died in the ash-laden wind. Surrounding the scorched crater of the elven command square, the four supreme court summons, the surviving Orc Puppets, and the remnants of the Arachne legion formed an impenetrable wall of shadow and chitin. They did not strike. They simply stood as silent, unyielding sentinels, parting to form a narrow path through the burning rubble.
Down from the basalt terraces of the Black Granite Citadel, Caius descended. His footsteps were light, making no sound against the glassed stone, yet each pace felt heavy with absolute authority. His violet eyes glowed with cold, lethal clarity as he focused entirely on the trembling figure at the center of the ruins: High Lord Lorien.
Lorien scrambled backward through the dirt, his golden cape shredded, his radiant mithril armor dented and black with soot. He clutched his chest where his meridians had calcified, spitting dark, stagnant blood onto the ground. The pride of Mount Eldoria was gone, replaced by the wild, desperate terror of a trapped beast.
"Stay back... stay away from me, dark demon!" Lorien shrieked, his voice ragged as he forced his broken body up against the iron axle of a shattered command wagon. He gripped his royal broadsword with both hands, his knuckles turning white. "I am a High Lord of the Solarian bloodline! I am the light of Eldoria! You are nothing but dirt!"
Caius did not answer with words. He drew his dual short-blades, the metal humming as the continuous flow of the Black River channeled dark mana along the edges.
"Die!" Lorien screamed, channeling the absolute final embers of his life force.
Overriding his calcified pathways through sheer, suicidal willpower, Lorien ignited his internal core. A blinding burst of pale, erratic solar fire erupted from his body, turning the surrounding ground to molten slag. He lunged forward using the high elven Flash Step, blurring into a streak of golden light as his broadsword executed a sweeping, decapitating arc aimed directly at Caius's neck.
Caius didn't even flinch.
Activating the Eye of the Loom, world-color vanished. Through Far Sight, he locked onto Lorien's panicked soul structure; through Inner Sight, he tracked the erratic, sputtering flow of solar mana in the elf's chest; and through Fate Sight, he saw the exact trajectory of the broadsword long before the strike reached its peak.
SWISH!
Caius triggered Shadow Steps, dissolving into the surrounding umbral mist a microsecond before the golden blade cut through empty air. He materialized instantly behind Lorien's guard, unleashing Sereth’s Dual-Blade Art. His short-blades blurred into a silver-black vortex, landing twenty precise strikes in the span of a single heartbeat.

CLANG! SPARK! CUT!
Sparks of compressed dark energy exploded off Lorien's armor. The short-blades bypassed the heavy plate, severing the tendon joints at the High Lord's knees and shoulders. Lorien cried out in agony as his broadsword clattered onto the hot stone, his arms hanging limp as he collapsed forward onto his knees.
Desperate, Lorien tilted his head back, his eyes flaring as he tried to unleash a raw mental blast of solar mana directly from his upper meridians.
Caius moved faster. Activating Void-Tether Snap, he collapsed the space between them instantly, stepping directly into Lorien's space. He raised his left hand, his fingers wrapped in dense black mana threads, and slammed his palm directly against Lorien's forehead.
"Spatial Lock!" Caius murmured coldly.
Black mana threads erupted from Caius's fingertips, weaving into spatial bindings that anchored Lorien’s head and upper torso in place, completely freezing the High Lord's movements mid-expression.
Lorien’s eyes bulged in horror as he realized he couldn't move a single muscle, couldn't channel a single drop of mana, and couldn't even close his mouth. He was entirely trapped inside his own frozen body.
Caius looked down into the High Lord’s panicked, bloodshot eyes, his expression utterly devoid of mercy.
"Your light is spent, Lorien," Caius whispered, his voice carrying the icy weight of the void. "Your soul will serve a far greater purpose in my court."
Caius extended his right hand, channeling his Black Core through the Loomheart Method. His fingers turned into translucent, obsidian claw-like spectral tendrils. He drove his hand straight into Lorien's crown chakra, at the center of his forehead, bypassing skin, bone, and flesh to grip the very root of the elf's spiritual origin.
VRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!
A sickening, resonance hum echoed through the valley as Lorien's body convulsed violently against the spatial threads. The High Lord's eyes rolled back, glowing with a desperate, blinding white flare as Caius forcefully tore into his spiritual core. Caius's dark mana acted like an unyielding forge, stripping away Lorien's memories, his arrogance, his calcified Moon Flame impurities, and his mortal identity, compressing the raw, condensed essence of the High Lord's Solarian origin into a single point.
With a final, brutal wrench, Caius pulled his hand back.
POP!
Lorien’s lifeless body instantly went limp, collapsing face-first into the dirt like a hollow, discarded puppet, completely devoid of life or spirit.
Floating directly above Caius's open palm was a brilliant, pristine soul bead. It glowed with a deep, radiant amber-gold light, pulsing with the dense, refined authority of an ancient high elven lord. The sheer quality of the essence caused the surrounding dark mana in the air to swirl in quiet reverence around Caius's fingers.
Caius closed his hand around the newly forged essence bead, feeling its heavy, concentrated power echo through his pathways and resonate all the way down into his inner domain, toward the Stone Table and its dark, waiting spiral slots.
A cold, victorious smile spread across Caius's face as he looked down at the lifeless High Lord, then swept his gaze across the silent, ruined battlefield.
Mount Eldoria had fallen, and his court was about to grow even stronger.
