CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 177: THE COURT OF THE CROWN

The air above the scorched command square hung thick with the reek of molten glass, burnt chitin, and fresh copper. The surviving two Solar Angels, their glowing plasma bodies cracked and leaking divine fire, stood back-to-back with their plasma greatswords vibrating in unholy desperation. Golden blood, thick and luminous like liquid sun, dripped from their mutilated wings, hissing violently as it met the blood-soaked earth. Around them, the battered remnants of the Orc Puppets and the surviving subterranean Arachne elites held a grinding, brutal stalemate. Shattered bone fragments, severed elven limbs, and pulverized armor littered the ground in a crimson sludge, yet neither side yielded an inch.

High atop the basalt terraces of the Black Granite Citadel, Caius watched the deadlock with cold, calculating violet eyes.

Without uttering a single word, he raised his right hand, extending his mind directly into his inner domain toward the ancient Stone Table and its nine Court Circle nodes. With a sharp flick of his wrist, he unsealed the pathways connecting his primary court entities straight to the physical plane.

Four massive, ink-black gateways tore open in the air above the battlefield, swirling with dense, suffocating umbral mana.

Out of the first gateway surged the Black Flame Demon, its towering frame wrapped in magma-veined muscle and roaring black fire that singed the very air. Out of the second blurred the Black Sabre-Lightning Tiger, crackling with violet electrical arcs that hissed against the scorched earth and burned the flesh of any nearby combatant. From the third dropped the Arachne Princess, her dual obsidian blades dripping with corrosive shadow-venom, her six back-arms flexing with lethal fluidity as she clicked her mandibles in anticipation of slaughter.

And from the fourth and final portal stepped the Shadow Knight, the nine-foot, faceless leviathan clad in seamless, spired black obsidian armor, gripping its colossal war mace and crimson-etched tower shield.

The four court entities materialized like apocalyptic heralds, reinforcing the battered Arachne elites and the remaining Orc Puppets in a single, earth-shattering arrival.

"Purge them," Caius commanded softly through the mental link, his voice echoing directly within the souls of his four supreme summons.

The response was instant and absolute.

The Black Sabre-Lightning Tiger turned into a streak of violet plasma, executing a blinding flank that struck the third Solar Angel's side. Long, jagged claws tore through divine armor, ripping open the angel's flank and spilling blinding golden entrails onto the dirt. As the tiger's four-foot ivory tusks discharged kinetic lightning into the titan's midsection, paralyzing its core, the Black Flame Demon lunged from above, slamming its clawed fists wrapped in roaring dark fire directly onto the avatar's golden helm. The intense heat fused the helm's metal faceplate straight into the angel's skull, melting flesh and bone together in a sickening display of raw violence.

Simultaneously, the Arachne Princess phase-shifted behind the titan, her corrosive blades sinking deep into its spinal column and carving upward to sever its wing joints before the angel could even raise its sword. Golden blood geysered from the gaping wounds, hissing and eating away at the grass.

Before the fourth Solar Angel could sweep its plasma blade to defend its brother, the nine-foot Shadow Knight stepped into its path.

BANG!

The Solar Angel’s plasma greatsword detonated against the face of the Shadow Knight's massive tower shield. The kinetic shockwave blew back the surrounding dust and ash, but the obsidian shield did not yield an inch. Utilizing the redirecting force built into its core design, the Shadow Knight pivoted the shield outward, shoving the twenty-foot titan off balance and crushing a nearby elven commander under its heavy iron boots into a bloody paste.

With a fluid, terrifying momentum, the Shadow Knight brought its colossal obsidian war mace around in a brutal counter-arc, slamming it squarely into the angel's chest. The impact sounded like two mountains colliding. The divine light cracked, and the angel was hurled backward into the molten dirt, its chest cavity violently caving inward from the sheer, catastrophic kinetic force before it even hit the ground.

Surrounded on all sides by the four supreme court summons, the remaining Orc Puppets, and the surviving Arachne legion, the two Solar Angels were systematically butchered. The Black Flame Demon incinerated their golden cores into bubbling sludge, the Arachne Princess and her father severed their remaining limbs with surgical brutality, and the Shadow Knight’s mace brought final, crushing oblivion to their faceless visages, smashing skulls into fine crimson mist.

The divine light imploded, leaving behind only swirling motes of dead, gray ash and a landscape paved with gore.

High Lord Lorien lay in the dirt, clutching his calcified chest, his bloodshot eyes staring in utter, hopeless despair at the nightmare court gathered before him. The divine judgment of Mount Eldoria had been completely erased, swallowed whole by the Sovereign of the Black Granite Citadel.
