CAIUS: Crown of Threads and Shadows

CHAPTER 176: THE CHOIRS OF SOLAR GOLD

  • Next Chapter

The twelve High Elven Archmages looked at High Lord Lorien with wide, horror-struck eyes, knowing full well what his frantic demand entailed. To summon the true avatars of the Solarian pantheon required shattering their own spiritual foundations, burning away centuries of accumulated life force to forge a temporary portal to the divine upper realms. It was a suicidal sentence, but as the six hundred and fifty humanoid Arachne elites silently closed the ring, their twin shadow-steel daggers dripping with sentinel blood and four back-mounted blade-arms flexing in lethal synchronization, the archmages realized no escape remained.

"Do it!" Lorien shrieked, clutching his calcified chest as he spat another glob of black bile into the dirt. "Burn your marrow! Bring down the judgment of Mount Eldoria!"

The twelve Archmages closed their golden eyes in unison. Raising their white-wood staves high into the dark, ash-filled sky, they began to sing. Their voices harmonized into an ancient, ethereal high elven melody, a haunting, bell-like chant that resonated across the bloody battlefield.

"Aethelis el-solan, Mount Eldoria... Vaelinor divinus, fallen light return... Shed the mortal clay, burn the marrow, yield the vessel... Descend, O Golden Wings of the Sun!"

As the crystalline notes echoed through the valley, the Archmages' bodies visibly withered. Their pristine skin wrinkled and cracked, their golden hair dissolved into coarse silver-white ash, and their eyes melted into pure, blinding white light as their spiritual cores were forcibly drained.

The dark clouds above the encampment ruptured. Four monumental pillars of pure, divine solar fire crashed down from the heavens, slamming into the earth around the command square with thunderous force. The ambient temperature skyrocketed in an instant, melting the granite bedrock into glowing pools of liquid glass. Out of the divine fire stepped four towering figures, twenty-foot-tall Elven Solar Angels. Forged entirely from condensed, incandescent solar energy, each avatar possessed three pairs of glowing golden wings spanning thirty feet across. They held monumental greatswords of pure plasma, their faceless visages radiating a blinding heat that forced even the distant human and orc soldiers across the valley floor to cover their faces in agony.

"BEHOLD!" Lorien cackled maniacally from the dirt, his bloodshot eyes bulging with frantic euphoria. "The divine strength of Eldoria! Purge these dark rats! Burn their chitin to ash!"

The four Solar Angels raised their plasma greatswords in unison and swung them in sweeping arcs of absolute destruction. Waves of radiant, white-hot plasma tore through the subterranean vanguard. The humanoid Arachne elites fought with terrifying agility, but the blinding heat and massive range of the divine blades proved devastating. Swords of pure solar fire sheared through obsidian chitin scale armor and severed scythe-like blade-arms. Over three hundred humanoid Arachne elites were instantly incinerated or cleaved in two, their dark carapaces turning to white-hot embers. Over fifty percent of the elite subterranean legion perished in those first horrific minutes of holy wrath, their dark blood sizzling against the molten earth.

Seeing the heavy casualties suffered by his elite brood, Caius, watching from the high ground, extended his hand. A massive, swirling pool of pitch-black shadow mana erupted from the earth beside the struggling Arachne lines. Out of the dark abyss stepped five blindfolded titan constructs, the resurrected, puppeted corpses of the defeated Orc Chieftains, their filthy essence beads locked tightly inside their chest cavities as raw mechanical fuel, completely excluded from Caius's divine core slots.

The five Orc Puppets charged directly into the divine fire to absorb the angels' wrath.

Krag'gath's towering iron-clad construct led the charge, executing his Iron Siege Breaker to unleash a devastating momentum-driven overhead strike that smashed into the first Solar Angel, compressing kinetic force to shatter its light-armor plating. Beside him, Borgath's nine-foot construct activated Flesh-Tearer Frenzy, channeling raw, unrefined rage into a blinding storm of wild, high-speed slashes that tore through the holy giant's blinding form. At the same time, Gor'muka's construct utilized Dire-Fang Pursuit, sweeping his five-foot curved broadsword in lightning-fast arcs to overwhelm the second angel's flank, while Mal'kor's withered skeletal husk hovered behind them, weaving Necrotic Miasma from his dragon-bone staff to corrode the divine light. Thrum's massive, rock-skinned construct slammed its obsidian fists into the earth to trigger Caldera Shockwave, sending volcanic shockwaves rippling beneath the heavenly avatars.

The battle rapidly spiraled into a brutal, evenly matched war of attrition. The divine titans fought back with terrifying, unyielding power, trading blow for blow with the resurrected chieftains. The first Solar Angel focused its remaining plasma energy into a single downward thrust, driving its massive sun-blade straight through Krag'gath's puppet chest and detonating the iron construct from within. Simultaneously, the second angel released a radial explosion of holy fire that completely engulfed Gor'muka's fast-moving construct, melting its broadsword and reducing its frame to slag.

BOOM! BOOM!

The chest-housed essence beads of both Krag'gath and Gor'muka ruptured under the holy heat. Their residual essence broke free from the destroyed puppet vessels and streaked through the sky like two black meteors, returning directly into Caius's body. Caius winced as the volatile, damaged energy recombined with his mana pathways. It would take a long, arduous time before he would ever be able to gather the necessary materials and refine the essences to create those two puppets anew.

Even with two constructs destroyed, the remaining puppets and the surviving Arachne elites found themselves locked in a hard-fought, grueling struggle. It was a fiercely contested, even battle where neither side could easily gain the upper hand. Borgath's construct slashed wildly, absorbing kinetic feedback to harden its core against sweeping plasma blades, while Thrum's massive frame braced against relentless holy beams to anchor the frontline. Alongside them, the surviving Arachne elites used their shadow-silk and twin daggers to constantly exploit every tiny tear in the angels' light-armor. Step by agonizing step, inch by bloody inch, the remaining Orc Puppets and subterranean warriors battered the towering avatars of light, grinding them down in a bloody clash where every single opening was paid for in broken chitin, scorched rock, and shattered divine essence.
