Chapter 64: 64-Need her (2)
"Get out!"
His expression hardened. He clenched his fists and deep in the earth under the spot where Maisa was standing, the earth started moving.
Varitreya rose slowly. She grabbed hold of Kayden’s fist and stopped him. She stanalized the shifting earth back in place and turned to the redblood, "Maisa!" Her voice carried a warning. "You are overstepping. Stand down!"
Maisa’s chest tightened. There it was again, that cold distance, and the reminder that she was the unwanted one. The redblood, the outcast and the mistake fate had somehow chained to them.
"I know," she admitted, her voice trembled. "I know exactly what I am."
Varitreya’s eyes narrowed. "Then leave."
She was afraid that if Maisa stayed a moment longer then Kayden was going to bury her alive where she stood.
"Calm down, Kay. She is leaving and we can return to our talk," she made an effort to calm him.
Maisa didn’t move an inch to leave. Instead, she walked forward one step at a time.
Varitreya watched her approach, confusion slowly replacing irritation. She had clearly instructed her to leave so why was she coming towards her instead.
Maisa stopped directly before her. She looked into the princess’s white eyes. "I never asked for this," she said.
Varitreya’s expression changed slightly. She blinked, part of her wanted to ask Kayden to leave before Maisa started talking about the bond but the other part knew that sending him away would only get him prying into her secrets. She was torn.
"I never asked to become a vampire," Maisa whispered. "I never asked for this "thing". I never asked to be suffering..." Her voice broke. "And I certainly never asked to hurt like this."
Before Varitreya could respond, Maisa rose onto her toes and kissed her and the princess froze up completely when Maisa’s lips touched hers.
For several seconds, neither of them moved. Maisa could feel Varitreya’s breath against her cheek, could feel the startled tension that seized the princess’s entire body but the kiss continued.
It wasn’t rushed or desperate. A full minute passed before Maisa finally pulled away. Her lips tingled, her eyes remained fixed on Varitreya and the princess looked stunned.
Kayden looked between them. His eyes widening and his jaw dropping.
Maisa turned toward him. "You can stay and watch," her voice was shaking, but she forced herself to continue. "Or you can get out."
Kayden looked genuinely amused by her. To have a redblood speak to him so disrespectfully was a first for him. Never in hus life did he imagine a day when a redblood would demand he leaves a room meant for him.
A slow smile appeared on his lips. The killing intent in his eyes vanished as his eyes softened.
"Fine, redblood. You win," He picked up his glass, sipped the cold blood and let out a satisfied sigh. "You better not eat up my friend completely. I still need her to give me the gist of your intimate time together," he winked at Maisa.
Varitreya who was still recovering from the kiss, shot him a menacing glare. She was stunned he could say something like that...readily hand her over to a redblood just because Maisa dared to kiss her. Where was his loyalty?
Through a link, Kayden spoke to Varitreya. "What happens in Scaris, stays in Scaris. Let loose and have a little fun. You won’t get much chance once we return under the ever watchful and judging eyes of the academy, capital and Palace."
"Have you gone mad?" Varitreya asked through the link, her eyes meeting his. "Even a toy isn’t handed out as easily as you did me... that too to a redblood."
"It’s just for fun. And plus, a redblood would be easier for silence later on."
Varitreya gritted her teeth. "Don’t you hate redbloods the most. How can you stand me being touched by a lowborn vampire?"
Kayden didn’t respond immediately. He thought of his own feelings for a lowborn bleblood and how he meant to use the trip to ease his vent up feelings, he didn’t hold judgement on Varitreya.
"I’ll keep everyone away... even your guards. Don’t let this chance go to waste," he smiled and cut off the link and left.
He walked toward the door. Before leaving, he glanced once more at Varitreya’s stunned expression. "Have fun," he aired and then he disappeared through the doorway.
The door clicked shut. A lethal silence followed his departure from the room. Maisa’s courage lasted exactly three seconds before Varitreya suddenly moved.
One moment she was standing before her and the next, Maisa’s back slammed against the wall. "Aargh," she cried.
A pale hand closed around her throat. Varitreya’s white eyes blazed with anger at not only the fact that Maisa came uninvited but she dared to kiss her in front of Kayden.
"You have one second," she said quietly, terrifyingly quietly, "One second to explain yourself," her fingers tightened. "Otherwise, this wall will become your final resting place."
Maisa’s hands immediately wrapped around Varitreya’s wrist. Her palms were burning, the heat coming from her skin was almost unbearable and yet Varitreya’s whiteblood skin did not blister or burn. It simply absorbed the heat without damage.
But Varitreya could feel the hotness and how abnormal it was. Her eyes narrowed at Maisa. "What is happening to you?"
Maisa opened her mouth. "I..." her stomach convulsed, she could no longer hold it in. She gagged.
Varitreya barely had time to react before Maisa vomited on her hand that was still holding her throat. Dark clumps of soil spilled across Varitreya’s hand.
The princess released her immediately and stepped back. Maisa dropped forward, coughing violently and feeling an ache in her sore throat.
Varitreya stared at her hand. There were traces of soil, small roots, sand and something that looked like a fragment of dried bark.
The princess simply stared at her dirtied hand for several seconds before a visible disgust settled in her face. She then grabbed a handkerchief from the table and wiped her palm clean.
The moment the cloth touched the dirt, she threw it into the nearest bin. "Have you lost your mind?"
Maisa could barely breathe. Her throat throbbed, the ache was intense and magnified that her body couldn’t bear with it anymore.
"No," she managed with difficulty.
Varitreya looked at her and her expression changed. She noticed the blood mixed with the soil and it made her eyes widened.
"What..."
Maisa wiped her mouth with trembling fingers. "I can’t stop it."
Varitreya’s anger faltered. "What do you mean?"
She was confused. Never in her life had she seen a vampire vomit such things. It was always blood that went in and blood that came out.
"I keep vomiting..." Maisa’s voice trembled. "Sand... roots... dirt.... sometimes blood."
She looked down at herself. "I’m burning things with my hands. I can’t eat, I can’t drink blood, and every time I try, my body rejects it."
