Bloodbound: The Unwanted Outcast And Her Vampire Mates
Chapter 65-Need her (3)
Chapter 65: 65-Need her (3)
"My body rejects anything that goes in and brings it out as this..." she pointed at the messy floor of her "vomit".
Varitreya stared at her and then at the mess. Had she not seen Maisa by herself as the girl vomited before her eyes, she would’ve thought the girl was playing a prank with her.
"And why is that happening. Do you know?" She asked, taking another step back.
She hope the disease Maisa had contracted was deadly or contagious. She didn’t want to get sick.
Maisa stepped closer and the princess backed away even more. The redblood’s eyes were wet. "It’s because of you."
The words landed harder than any accusation ever could and Varitreya went still. She wondered what nonsense Maisa was uttering.
"The bond," Maisa whispered. "Luan told me he read about it."
Varitreya’s expression sharpened. "Luan?" She immediately recalled the book she had hidden away before running off to find and save Zolani.
She remembered the section about the consequences of rejecting a bond and finally understood what was happening to Maisa. However, sue didn’t let it show on her face.
Maisa’s fingers curled against her chest. "He said the bond is reacting because you and Addessa are pulling away from me."
Varitreya didn’t answer her or move away when Maisa reached for her hand. This time, Varitreya allowed it as she now knew that it wasn’t some contagious disease that was tearing away at Maisa.
"Please, you have to help me," her pleading came out so softly that it almost broke apart. "I don’t need you to love me, princess."
Varitreya’s eyes flickered. Her eyes sharpened as they settled on Maisa’s. She listened without making any moves or saying a word.
"I don’t need you to want this," Maisa’s tears finally spilled and she took another step closer. "I just need it to stop."
She squeezed Varitreya’s hand. "Touch me... hold me... feed on me as you did with Zolani... kiss me... anything... Varitreya," her voice cracked completely. "Please give it something. Anything that tells the bond you’ve accepted me."
Varitreya stared at her. The princess truly looked at Maisa. She viewed her not as a redblood, or as an inconvenience nor as the mysterious girl who had somehow become entangled with every member of the student council.
Instead, she saw a frightened teenager standing in front of her. Maisa looked exhausted, shaking, and begging for mercy from a bond neither of them had chosen or asked for.
"Please," Maisa whispered again. Her knees weakened and she almost fell weak to the floors. "I don’t want to keep hurting. Help me."
Varitreya caught her before she fell. The princess’s anger had disappeared completely. Maisa was suffering and she had felt fragments of the girl’s pain through the bond but she had never understood the magnitude.
Never imagined that the distance she and Addessa created would manifest this violently. Varitreya’s hand tightened around Maisa’s waist. Then she pinned her gently but firmly against the wall again, leaning closer until their eyes met.
"What," Varitreya asked, "is in it for me to relieve you of this pain?"
Maisa stared at her through tear-filled eyes. For once, she had no answer. She only had the unbearable ache in her chest and the faint, dying glow of two petals above her heart.
Her ear buzzed with a faint ringing. She couldn’t understand the question. What was in it for Varitreya? She hadn’t anticipated for Varitreya to ask her that question.
Her mind had been consumed by pain for so long that the thought of bargaining had never entered it.
She had come here because she was desperate, terrified and every instinct inside her screamed that something was terribly wrong and the only person who could stop it was the very person standing before her.
But Varitreya wanted a reason to help her, Maisa swallowed. "I don’t know," she answered honestly. Her voice was barely louder than a whisper.
Varitreya’s crimson eyes remained fixed on hers. "Then why should I help you?"
"I don’t know," Maisa repeated, tears gathering again. "I don’t know what I can give you," she admitted, her voice trembled. "I’m a redblood... I’m not important... I’m not powerful... I don’t have a title.... wealth. I don’t even know how to control what is happening to me."
She lowered her eyes. A wave of helplessness washed over her. She had nothing of value to exchange with the favour from the princess. It was foolish to expect the princess to do it for free.
Just because Varitreya had saved her twice without a charge, it didn’t mean her kindness was limitless. And clearly, she had overused her free access to Varitreya’s kindness and now had to pay up to receive it.
"I don’t have anything," she said, the words hung between them.
Varitreya’s expression shifted. The shift wasnt major, just enough for something unreadable to flicker through her eyes.
Maisa continued to plead her case with the hope that her words would touch Varitreya’s heart and get the vampire to help her.
"But I’m trying," she let out. Her fingers tightened around Varitreya’s sleeve. "I’m trying to understand this place. I’m trying to understand you. I’m trying to understand the bond. I’m trying to survive... Vari..." her voice broke.
She paused to catch her breathe. Her sore throat was getting worse by the minute. For some reason her body had also started healing at a slower rate since she started having two elements inside her.
"And I don’t want to be your enemy... I just want to live," she went on.
That finally made Varitreya still. In all her years as a royal, no one had ever cried to her in the ways that Maisa did. Her heart started to soften.
Maisa’s tears slipped down her cheeks. "I know you don’t want this... I know you don’t want me... and I know you probably hate that fate tied you to someone like me," she laughed weakly through her tears. "Honestly, I hate it too."
Varitreya’s jaw tightened. Maisa was spot on, she did hate all of that and wished for a miracle to save her from the zing.
"But I can’t change it, princess," Maisa pressed a hand against her chest. "I tried."
"Mai..."
Her fingers trembled over the flower-shaped mark. "I tried ignoring it...I tried giving you space... I tried pretending I didn’t feel anything whenever you looked at me."
"Nmph," Varitreya sighed
She looked up again. Maisa blinked away the tears in her eyes. "But every time you pull away, it hurts."
Varitreya’s eyes dropped toward the bond. The two dim petals were unmistakable in the flower, the white and black one which represented her and Addessa.
"And now my body is reacting in such strange and painful ways," Maisa’s voice became quieter as the tears she struggled to hold back came flowing out. "It doesn’t care whether I want it to. It doesn’t care whether you want it..." she took a shaky breath. "It just knows that you’re leaving and it wants you to stay."
"..."
"By every means necessary. So, please...save me, Varitreya."
