Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 525: The Proxy Conquest
Chapter 523: The Proxy Conquest
The morning of the fifteenth day dawned over the Pacific atoll with a brilliant, unblemished clarity. Inside the sprawling, open-air master pavilion, the air was a balmy seventy-two degrees, carrying the faint, soothing rhythm of the ocean tide.
In the exact geometric center of the massive, twenty-foot circular mattress, the Sleeping Leviathan rested in a state of flawless, undisturbed hibernation.
Alex Turner was swathed in a featherweight, unbranded ivory silk sleep shirt. His breathing was a slow, metronomic hum of absolute biological optimization. His shadowed irises were firmly concealed behind a pristine cashmere sleep mask. He was entirely disconnected from the grinding, desperate friction of the outside world, having successfully achieved a state of rest so profound it bordered on the mythological.
He was not going to solve a single problem today. He was not going to issue a mandate. He was simply going to exist.
Fifty feet away, on the sun-drenched teakwood veranda overlooking the crystal-clear lagoon, the dynamic of the Tyrant Group was undergoing a terrifying, permanent evolution.
Angelina Jolie, Monica Bellucci, and Jennifer Aniston sat around a low mahogany table. They were not wearing designer resort wear. Adhering strictly to the aesthetic superiority of their environment, all three women were completely swallowed by massively oversized, heather-grey fleece hoodies and baggy cotton sweatpants.
Resting on the table between them was a sleek, matte-black Vanguard tactical tablet. The newly repaired fiber-optic tether was functioning with terrifying speed.
Angelina peered over the edge of the veranda, looking down through the structural glass floor at the bright yellow mini-submersible still suspended harmlessly in the invisible sonic net below. The paparazzi inside was currently asleep, his face pressed against the acrylic dome in sheer exhaustion.
"We fed the fish," Angelina purred softly, her voice a sultry, dangerous whisper that carried zero risk of waking the sleeping billionaire behind them. "And while watching him panic was an excellent source of zero-calorie entertainment, it highlighted a systemic vulnerability."
Jennifer took a slow sip of her chilled cucumber infusion, her bright blue eyes narrowing with lethal, corporate focus. "As long as external media syndicates have budgets, they will attempt to breach the perimeter. They will send drones. They will send submarines. They will force Vanguard to manually intercept them."
"Which generates administrative friction," Monica Bellucci concluded, her rich Italian accent dripping with aristocratic malice. She elegantly crossed her legs beneath the grey fleece. "Every time a proximity alarm goes off, Alex’s localized peace is threatened. If he is forced to continually lecture intruders on the mechanics of their own failure, he will eventually suffer from vocal fatigue. We cannot allow his vocal cords to be taxed by the working class."
Angelina pulled the Vanguard tablet closer, her manicured fingers dancing across the encrypted interface.
"The submersible was chartered through a shell company," Angelina reported, her eyes tracking the glowing data. "But Vanguard’s cyber division traced the funding. It belongs to the Global Gossip Syndicate in London. They control the three largest tabloid publications in Europe. They authorized the aquatic infiltration."
"Traditionally," Jennifer noted, tapping her chin, "this is the point where we wake Alex up, and he forces the syndicate into bankruptcy by turning off their printing presses or buying their paper suppliers."
Monica looked back at the massive bed. The Sleeping Leviathan had not shifted a single inch. He looked incredibly, breathtakingly peaceful.
"Waking him to deal with a tabloid is a tragic expenditure of his cognitive reserves," Monica murmured, a wicked, brilliant spark illuminating her dark eyes. "Why should the Emperor of the Horizontal be forced to manage a peasant uprising? We know the philosophy. We have the offshore routing codes."
Angelina’s lips curled into a predatory, unapologetic smirk. "We are the Shadow Board. We will handle the execution."
"Initiate the acquisition, Jen," Monica commanded softly. "Do not negotiate. Do not litigate. Just drown them in liquidity."
Jennifer’s fingers flew across the glass screen. With a few silent taps, she unleashed the terrifying, infinite financial weight of the Tyrant Group’s Cayman reserves directly into the London stock exchange.
"Hostile buyout complete," Jennifer beamed exactly four minutes later. "We now hold eighty-nine percent of the Global Gossip Syndicate’s voting shares. The board of directors has been forcefully summoned to an emergency video conference. They think they are logging in to negotiate with a phantom hedge fund."
"Put them on the monitor," Angelina ordered, leaning back into her plush outdoor lounger and pulling her oversized hood up over her dark hair to maximize her cozy, unbothered silhouette.
The massive, eighty-inch flat-panel screen integrated into the veranda wall flickered to life.
The digital feed displayed a polished, sterile boardroom in London. Five men in severe, tightly tailored bespoke suits were sitting rigidly around a table. The CEO of the syndicate, a red-faced man with a vein bulging in his temple, stared at the camera.
When the video feed connected, the London executives froze. They were expecting a team of ruthless, Armani-clad corporate raiders.
Instead, they were looking at three of the most famous women on earth, completely swallowed by oversized sweatpants, lounging on a tropical deck with the casual, devastating arrogance of untouchable royalty.
"Ms. Jolie? Ms. Aniston?!" the London CEO choked out, his eyes darting wildly. "What is the meaning of this? Where are the financial representatives of the holding company?!"
"We are the representatives, Richard," Angelina drawled flawlessly, perfectly mirroring Alex’s flat, unyielding cadence. She didn’t even bother sitting up straight. "And your vocal projection is currently exceeding optimal decibel limits. Please lower your voice. You are polluting my acoustic airspace."
The CEO’s face turned a violent shade of crimson. "You hostile-took our company! You are illegally detaining our lead journalist in a submarine! I demand his immediate release, or I am contacting international maritime authorities!"
"He is not detained," Monica corrected smoothly, her tone dripping with clinical disdain. "He is an unsolicited aquatic feature. We are currently utilizing him as a decorative lawn ornament for our lagoon. Furthermore, contacting maritime authorities requires dialing a phone and filling out paperwork. It is a catastrophic expenditure of bureaucratic friction. We highly advise against it."
"You cannot buy a century-old publishing empire just to protect a submarine!" another executive yelled, pounding his fist on the table.
Jennifer sighed, shaking her head with profound, manufactured pity. "Gentlemen, you are fundamentally misunderstanding the physics of your own obsolescence."
She leaned forward, weaponizing the Slacker philosophy with flawless, terrifying precision.
"Publishing a weekly tabloid," Jennifer lectured softly, "requires the physical logging of trees, the aggressive churning of wood pulp, and the violent pressing of industrial ink onto glossy paper. It is an environmental and ergonomic nightmare. You are forcing innocent lumberjacks to endure severe lumbar strain simply so you can print unauthorized photographs of my grocery shopping."
"It’s journalism!" the CEO roared, beads of sweat visibly breaking out across his forehead.
Angelina’s eyes narrowed into icy slits. She tapped the microphone icon.
"Halt," Angelina commanded.
The boardroom on the screen fell silent.
"You are perspiring," Angelina diagnosed bleakly, pointing a lazy finger at the monitor. "You are actively generating a sheen of panic sweat on a fiber-optic video feed. It is a catastrophic aesthetic tragedy. Your biological inability to regulate your core temperature is deeply offensive to my retinas."
"I am sweating because you just stole my company!" the CEO shrieked.
"Sweating is a biological concession to fear, Richard. It proves you lack the discipline for high-level stasis," Monica purred seamlessly. "A man who cannot control his own sweat glands cannot be trusted to control a global media syndicate. You are officially terminated. All of you. Clear your desks by noon."
"You can’t just fire the entire board!" the CFO panicked, loosening his tie as the absolute reality of their ruin set in. "What are you going to do with the magazine?!"
"We are optimizing the narrative," Angelina dictated, her voice a slow, hypnotic drone of pure apathy. "The printing of words requires the consumer to actively track black text across a white page. Reading induces ocular strain and requires unnecessary cognitive processing. It is a tragic waste of glucose."
Angelina leaned back, crossing her arms inside the massive front pocket of her hoodie.
"The magazine will no longer print gossip, text, or photographs of human beings," she finalized. "Human beings generate drama, and drama is exhausting. Effective immediately, your flagship publication will be transformed into a high-end, monthly catalog featuring high-definition, static images of unbranded memory foam pillows and premium sleepwear. No captions. No prices. Just sixty pages of undisturbed, horizontal comfort."
"You are turning the biggest tabloid in Europe into a mattress catalog?!" the CEO gasped, the remaining color draining from his face. "Our advertisers will abandon us!"
"Let them leave. Seeking validation from advertisers is a peasant’s game," Jennifer smiled warmly. "We are saving the working class from the visual trauma of squinting at your headlines. You are dismissed. Do not attempt to call back. The ringing noise disrupts the ocean breeze."
Jennifer tapped the screen. The video feed instantly went black.
The veranda fell into a pristine, triumphant silence.
The three women sat motionless for a moment, absorbing the sheer, intoxicating adrenaline of executing a multi-billion-dollar corporate massacre entirely from the comfort of their sweatpants. They hadn’t raised their voices. They hadn’t compromised their posture. They had simply utilized absolute financial leverage and unapologetic laziness to bend a continent to their will.
Monica let out a long, breathless exhale, a massive grin breaking across her face. "That was... terrifyingly satisfying."
"We just fired a CEO for sweating," Angelina wheezed, covering her mouth as she dissolved into a fit of silent, shoulder-shaking laughter. "We actually did it. We used Alex’s logic, and it worked flawlessly."
"The Shadow Board is officially operational," Jennifer giggled, leaning back and closing her eyes. "The perimeter is secure. The paparazzi is a fish. The tabloids are pillows."
Inside the master pavilion, a soft, contented sigh echoed from the massive circular bed.
The Sleeping Leviathan shifted slightly, pulling the ivory silk sheet a fraction of an inch higher over his chest. His breathing remained flawlessly steady, his nervous system completely unaware of the ruthless, transatlantic proxy war that had just been waged and won purely to ensure his continued hibernation.
"The acoustics in this room," Alex murmured sleepily to the void, his voice thick with unadulterated peace, "are mathematically perfect today."
He let his head loll to the side, sinking even deeper into the memory foam, entirely secure in the knowledge that the universe was functioning exactly as it should, entirely blind to the fact that his wives had just become the most terrifying, unbothered apex predators in the corporate world.
