Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 526: The Digital Mutiny
Chapter 524: The Digital Mutiny
The balmy, golden afternoon of the fifteenth day settled over the Pacific atoll like a warm, incredibly expensive blanket. The ocean breeze was a flawless seventy-two degrees, and the sheer, intoxicating high of successfully hostile-taking a European media syndicate before lunch had left the Shadow Board in a state of restless, hyper-creative euphoria.
Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, and Salma Hayek remained sprawled across the plush, oversized outdoor loungers on the teakwood veranda. They were still deeply buried inside their massive, unbranded heather-grey fleece hoodies and baggy sweatpants. The uniform of absolute apathy had become their armor.
Jennifer let out a long, theatrical groan, tossing the Vanguard tactical tablet onto the mahogany table.
"I am officially bored with traditional cinema," Jennifer declared, staring at the eighty-inch flat-panel monitor integrated into the veranda wall. "I just scrolled through the entire Tyrant Group streaming repository. It is exhausting. Every single action movie features a protagonist dangling from a helicopter, diffusing a bomb, or engaging in a high-speed car chase. It makes my hamstrings ache just watching them."
Salma nodded vigorously, adjusting the oversized hood that swallowed half her face. "It is a cinematic failure. The industry equates entertainment with cardiovascular distress. Why would I want to watch a man sprint across a collapsing bridge when I know for a fact that lying on a memory-foam mattress is mathematically superior?"
Angelina leaned forward, her dark eyes flashing with a sudden, lethal spark of inspiration. She looked at the abandoned Vanguard tablet, then slowly dragged her gaze toward the massive, circular bed fifty feet away in the master pavilion.
The Slumbering Colossus lay completely motionless. Alex Turner was swathed in his ivory silk sleep shirt, his abyssal stare hidden beneath a pristine cashmere sleep mask. He was a monument to flawless, undisturbed stasis.
"We own the ’Ghost Render’ artificial intelligence," Angelina purred, her voice dropping into a sultry, conspiratorial whisper. "Alex used it to win an Oscar without ever memorizing a script. He used it to pacify the daytime talk shows. If traditional Hollywood blockbusters are a kinetic tragedy..."
Angelina smirked, reaching out to drag the tablet across the table. "...then we are simply going to render our own."
"Oh my god," Jennifer gasped, her blue eyes lighting up with unadulterated, mutinous joy. "A completely unauthorized, hundred-million-dollar blockbuster, directed entirely from this sofa."
"We need a plot," Salma demanded, eagerly shuffling closer to Angelina to look at the screen. "A plot that adheres strictly to the philosophy of the Sanctuary. We are the protagonists. What is our motivation?"
"Our motivation is to remain entirely horizontal," Angelina dictated flawlessly, her fingers flying across the encrypted glass interface. "Vanguard AI. Acknowledge."
A soft, synthesized chime echoed from the veranda speakers.
"Render a two-hour, high-budget cinematic epic," Angelina commanded. "The setting is a hyper-luxurious, completely soundproofed fortress at the edge of the universe. The protagonists are photorealistic digital avatars of myself, Jennifer, and Salma. We are wearing oversized sweatpants. Our character arc is that we are taking an incredibly restorative afternoon nap, and we refuse to wake up for any reason."
"Brilliant," Jennifer giggled. "But a movie needs tension. We need a villain. Someone who represents everything Alex despises. We need the absolute embodiment of unnecessary effort, aggressive sweating, and relentless running."
The three women locked eyes. The realization hit them simultaneously.
"Tom Cruise," Salma whispered in sheer awe.
"The ultimate try-hard," Angelina grinned wickedly. "Vanguard. Render the primary antagonist using the biometric likeness and vocal synthesis of Tom Cruise. He is a rogue agent obsessed with hard work, performing his own stunts, and saving the world through sheer, desperate kinetic energy. His mission is to infiltrate our fortress and force us to go for a morning jog."
A red warning flashed across the Vanguard tablet. [ALERT: Unauthorized deployment of trademarked intellectual property and biometric likeness. Severe legal friction imminent.]
"Override," Angelina dismissed instantly, tapping the screen with supreme aristocratic arrogance. "We bought his studio last month. I own his digital rights. Render the film."
The massive wall monitor flickered to life. The high-definition output was staggering.
The digital film opened with a sweeping, dramatic shot of an impossibly beautiful, cloud-covered fortress. Inside, the digital avatars of Angelina, Jennifer, and Salma were lying perfectly flat on a massive silk bed, their expressions radiating absolute peace. The cinematic score was a slow, hypnotic cello drone.
Then, the camera aggressively cut to the antagonist.
The digital avatar of Tom Cruise was sprinting. He was running at maximum velocity across a burning desert, dodging perfectly rendered explosions, his face locked in a mask of intense, jaw-clenching determination.
"Stop," Salma commanded the AI, leaning closer to the microphone. "His posture is too good. He looks heroic. Vanguard, increase his lactic acid buildup by three hundred percent! I want his quadriceps to visually tremble! Make his knees buckle!"
On the screen, the digital Tom Cruise suddenly stumbled, his avatar visibly gasping for air as the simulated gravity increased.
"And the perspiration is entirely inadequate!" Jennifer shouted, completely losing her composure. "Vanguard, crank his sweat glands to maximum capacity! I want his pores to cry from dehydration! I want him drenched in the tragedy of his own cardio!"
The digital villain was instantly soaked, his hair plastered to his forehead, his designer tactical turtleneck ruined by massive, highly unflattering sweat stains. He looked absolutely miserable, yet his programming forced him to keep sprinting toward the fortress.
The heavy teakwood doors of the veranda hissed open.
Commander Elias Thorne stepped onto the deck, holding a stack of logistical manifests. He looked up at the massive monitor, expecting to see a financial chart. Instead, he saw one of the highest-paid actors in Hollywood digitally crawling through a mud-filled trench, weeping from physical exhaustion, while three women in sweatpants cheered from the sofa.
Thorne froze. The color slowly drained from his immaculate, battle-hardened face.
"Ladies," Thorne whispered, his voice vibrating with a rare, profound terror. "You are actively pirating the biometric likeness of a prominent A-list actor to construct a digital torture simulator. That is a multi-million-dollar copyright infringement. If his legal team sees this, the resulting litigation will be a global catastrophe."
"Litigation requires him to serve us paperwork, Elias," Monica purred smoothly from her lounger, not even bothering to look at the security chief. "And we are on an untraceable island. Let him sue the ocean."
"Commander, please do not interrupt the director’s vision," Angelina scolded lightly, ignoring Thorne’s impending heart attack. "Vanguard, fast-forward to the climax!"
The screen blurred. The cinematic music swelled to a deafening, frantic crescendo.
The digital Tom Cruise finally reached the door of the luxurious bedroom. He had survived laser grids, shark-infested waters, and scaling a sheer cliff face with no ropes. He was covered in digital bruises, hyperventilating, and entirely out of breath.
He kicked the heavy bedroom doors open with a heroic shout.
"Ladies!" the digital Tom roared, his synthesized voice cracking with exertion. "The world is in danger! You have to get up! We have to run!"
The camera panned to the heroes. The digital avatars of Angelina, Jennifer, and Salma did not even open their eyes. They simply pulled their heavy fleece blankets a fraction of an inch higher.
The digital Tom Cruise stared at them. He took one step forward, opened his mouth to deliver a passionate, motivational monologue about the value of hard work... and then his internal biological systems suffered a catastrophic failure.
The sheer weight of his own unnecessary kinetic energy caught up with him. His avatar’s eyes rolled back into his head. With a heavy, unceremonious thud, the digital villain collapsed face-first onto the plush carpet, entirely defeated by absolute exhaustion.
The heroes remained asleep.
The screen faded to black. Bold, elegant white text appeared: Written and Directed by the Shadow Board.
The veranda erupted into chaotic, breathless shrieks of laughter. Salma was clutching her stomach, rolling sideways on the lounger, while Jennifer buried her face in a pillow, wheezing uncontrollably.
"He defeated himself!" Angelina cackled, wiping a tear of sheer joy from her eye. "He ran thousands of miles just to pass out on our floor! It is a cinematic masterpiece!"
Thorne looked physically ill. He took a hesitant step toward the master pavilion, clearly debating whether the legal apocalypse warranted waking the Sleeping Colossus.
He didn’t have to.
The sudden silence from the monitor had caused a microscopic shift in the ambient frequency of the room. On the massive circular bed, Alex Turner slowly lifted a single hand, pushing the cashmere sleep mask up to rest on his forehead.
His shadowed irises drifted toward the massive wall monitor, catching the final, fading credits of the unauthorized blockbuster.
Thorne held his breath. The women instantly fell silent, turning their heads to gauge the billionaire’s reaction to their blatant, multi-million-dollar mutiny.
Alex stared at the screen for three long, agonizing seconds. He evaluated the sheer absurdity of the digital sweat, the collapsed avatar, and the absolute, unapologetic laziness of the heroines’ character arcs.
"A devastating critique of the action genre," Alex murmured, his deep voice thick with sleep, yet ringing with absolute, undeniable approval. "The antagonist was fundamentally undone by his own cardiovascular ambition. It mathematically proves that sweating is a terminal liability. The pacing was flawless, and the heroines maintained perfect horizontal stasis."
Jennifer let out a massive sigh of relief, beaming radiantly. "You aren’t mad about the copyright infringement?"
"Copyrights are an administrative burden designed to protect people who still believe in effort, Jen," Alex drawled lazily, pulling his sleep mask back down over his eyes to reclaim the void. "However, the digital panting of the antagonist was mildly abrasive to my auditory peace. Next time, ensure the villain operates with a silencer. I award this production five stars. Do not wake me for the sequel."
Thorne stared at his boss, completely broken by the sheer, impenetrable density of his apathy. The Commander slowly turned on his heel and walked out of the pavilion, realizing that in the Empire of Inertia, intellectual property theft was perfectly acceptable, as long as it didn’t generate an echo.
