Blood on the Canvas, Gold on the Screen
Chapter 524: The Benthic Interception
Chapter 522: The Benthic Interception
The sheer, intoxicating thrill of Angelina Jolie and Monica Bellucci’s morning communication blockade had set a remarkably high standard for the fourteenth day on the Pacific atoll. By the time the golden afternoon sun began its slow, majestic descent toward the horizon, the Harem Council was practically radiating a serene, untouchable arrogance.
They had congregated in the newly modified Sub-Aquatic Observation Lounge—a stunning architectural marvel where a massive section of the teakwood floor had been entirely replaced by an ultra-thick, aerospace-grade structural glass panel. It provided a flawless, downward-facing panoramic view directly into the artificially sanitized, crystal-clear depths of the lagoon. Paired with a towering, eighty-inch high-definition wall monitor that mirrored the Vanguard underwater telemetry feeds, the room was designed for absolute visual dominance over the local marine geography.
In the center of the room, resting flawlessly upon an oversized, cream-colored Loro Piana cashmere lounging island, the Emperor of Inertia lay completely supine.
Alex Turner’s abyssal pupils were half-closed, lazily tracking the slow-moving shadow of a seagull passing over the skylight. He was swathed in a featherweight, unbuttoned charcoal linen shirt and loose trousers, vibrating with peak, unadulterated metabolic efficiency.
The engineered silence of the afternoon was gently interrupted by the soft, pneumatic hiss of the service doors.
Commander Elias Thorne stepped into the lounge. The Head of Vanguard Security did not rush, but his posture carried the distinct, rigid tension of a man observing a highly unnatural phenomenon.
"Mr. Turner. Council," Thorne announced, his voice a low, crisp hum. "I must report a perimeter breach. However, it is not an aerial or surface intrusion. We have a benthic anomaly."
Jennifer Aniston, who had been lazily flipping through a fashion magazine she was now actively mocking, paused. "Benthic? Elias, are you telling me someone is attacking us from the bottom of the ocean?"
"Not attacking, Ms. Aniston. Infiltrating," Thorne corrected, tapping his digital pad. "A highly motivated mainland tabloid journalist chartered a private yacht to the edge of international waters, deployed a civilian-grade mini-submersible, and attempted to navigate through the coral reef to secure unauthorized, subsurface photographs of the estate."
Salma Hayek gasped, sitting straight up on the edge of the glass floor. "A submarine?! A paparazzi brought a literal submarine to our house?!"
"The lengths the working class will go to avoid minding their own business is truly staggering," Monica Bellucci sighed, adjusting her sheer silk wrap with aristocratic disdain.
"Commander," Alex murmured, his deep baritone rolling effortlessly across the plush cashmere. He did not elevate his spine by a single millimeter. "Please inform me that the interloper is not currently leaking diesel fuel or abrasive engine lubricants into my filtered lagoon. Environmental pollution is an administrative nightmare."
"The lagoon remains pristine, sir," Thorne reported completely deadpan. "The vessel did not breach the inner sanctum. The moment the mini-submersible crossed the reef, it was instantly caught in the Iso-Sonic Marine Quarantine net. The high-frequency sonic field immediately disabled its rudimentary navigation and propulsion systems. It is currently suspended exactly fifteen feet below the surface, completely immobilized in a state of neutral buoyancy. It cannot move forward, backward, up, or down."
Thorne tapped a final command on his screen, routing the live underwater security feed to the massive wall monitor and illuminating the structural glass floor beneath them.
The women gasped.
Displayed in breathtaking high-definition was a bright yellow, remarkably expensive-looking, two-man mini-submersible. It was hovering absolutely motionless in the crystal-clear, azure water. Pressed desperately against the acrylic dome of the submarine was a man holding a massive telephoto camera lens.
His face was a portrait of sheer, unadulterated terror. He was frantically mashing buttons on his control console, wiping rivers of sweat from his forehead as he realized his high-tech vessel was entirely trapped in an invisible, inescapable acoustic web.
"Oh my god," Courteney Cox wheezed, covering her mouth as she stared through the glass floor. "He looks like a goldfish trapped in a plastic bag."
"Look at him sweating," Angelina purred, leaning forward over the glass, her eyes gleaming with wicked, predatory joy. "He thought he was James Bond. Now he’s just a decorative paperweight."
"Elias, we have to call the coast guard!" Shakira urged, though she was already smiling at the absurdity of the visual. "We have to have him arrested for trespassing!"
Alex let out a long, heavy exhale that conveyed the profound spiritual suffering of a man forced to explain basic legal logistics.
"Shakira," Alex drawled softly, his voice an uncompromising, flat drone of pure logic. "Calling the coast guard requires the active dispatch of a radio signal. It demands the initiation of a formal legal complaint. I would have to speak to authorities, file paperwork, and provide a statement. It is a catastrophic expenditure of bureaucratic friction."
"But he is a paparazzi!" Salma argued, pointing down at the panicked man currently pounding his fists against the inside of his acrylic dome. "He invaded our privacy!"
"And what is he going to do with that privacy, Salma?" Alex countered seamlessly, his abyssal pupils shifting lazily toward the monitor. "He cannot transmit photos from beneath the ocean. His propulsion is dead. He is hermetically sealed in a fiberglass tube."
Alex paused, steepling his fingers over his chest in a posture of absolute permanence.
"Evicting an intruder requires administrative and legal effort," Alex lectured, his tone dropping into a register of icy, absolute sovereignty. "It requires kinetic action. However, simply allowing him to remain trapped in the sonic net provides us with a highly dynamic, self-contained water feature. We have inadvertently acquired an aquarium exhibit, and it cost us absolutely zero caloric expenditure to curate it."
The Harem Council fell into a stunned, breathless silence. They looked at the billionaire, and then down at the terrified tabloid journalist spinning uselessly in the water below.
Mariah Carey threw her head back, letting out a rich, echoing laugh of pure, unfiltered triumph. "You are not going to arrest him. You are going to keep him as a pet."
"I am observing the wildlife," Alex corrected lazily. "Look at him. He is currently exhibiting the classic symptoms of endocrine failure. The rapid chest movement. The excessive perspiration. He is burning massive amounts of glucose in a state of manufactured panic. Panic sweat is the ultimate aesthetic tragedy. It is a terrible waste of hydration."
"This is the greatest afternoon of my life," Jennifer declared, immediately sliding off the cashmere island and crawling directly onto the structural glass floor. She peered downward, waving cheerfully at the trapped man.
Inside the submarine, the paparazzi saw the stunning, world-famous actress looking down at him from twelve feet above. He frantically scrambled to raise his camera, completely forgetting his impending doom in the face of an exclusive photograph.
Before he could even focus the lens, Gillian Anderson gracefully stepped onto the glass right next to Jennifer. She wasn’t holding a phone or a weapon.
She was holding a small silver tin.
"Elias," Gillian asked, her husky voice dripping with theatrical, arrogant curiosity. "Does the acoustic field permit the passage of small, solid objects from the surface?"
"Gravity operates normally within the net, Ms. Anderson," Thorne replied, his lips twitching into a microscopic, highly unprofessional smirk. "Small objects will simply sink past the hull."
Gillian popped the lid off the tin, revealing a handful of compressed, high-grade nutritional fish pellets. With the careless, devastating grace of an aristocrat feeding pigeons at a park, she sprinkled a handful of the pellets over the open edge of the balcony, letting them drop into the water directly above the submarine.
The pellets drifted slowly downward, pinging softly against the acrylic dome of the trapped vessel.
"Here, little paparazzi," Gillian cooed mockingly, as the man inside the sub stared up in absolute, soul-crushing humiliation. "Who’s a good boy? Eat your pellets."
The lounge erupted. Salma collapsed against Angelina, both women howling with laughter at the sheer, undeniable disrespect of the gesture. The most feared, invasive predator of the Hollywood ecosystem had been entirely neutralized, reduced to a biological curiosity trapped in a billionaire’s fish tank.
"His posture is terrible," Monica critiqued smoothly, sipping a glass of sparkling water as she evaluated the man through the floor. "He is hunching over the control stick. He is absolutely ruining his cervical alignment."
"He lacks the discipline of horizontal stasis," Alex agreed, completely unbothered by the spectacle occurring just beneath his living room. "He believed that invading my perimeter would yield a reward. Instead, he has become a testament to the futility of ambition. Let him spin in his little yellow jar. When the battery on his life-support system reaches ten percent, Thorne will magnetically drag his vessel back to international waters. Until then, enjoy the exhibit."
Surrounded by the joyful, wildly arrogant laughter of his inner circle as they continued to treat a hostile infiltration like a trip to the zoo, the Emperor of Inertia sank deeper into his cashmere oasis. The world had tried to breach his sanctuary, and his flawless logic had effortlessly transformed the threat into zero-cost, passive entertainment. The island remained secure, the silence remained unbroken, and his absolute supremacy over the concept of effort was, once again, undisputed.
