Chapter 168: 168: NO MATCHMAKING

"You..." Lucas said. "How are you sure you didn’t get hurt in the dungeon? It sounded like a big deal."

"....."

Silence.

Grey slapped a hand over his forehead. "So stubborn."

Lucas cleared his throat and took a sip of his drink while everyone stared at him, waiting for him to speak.

And then he said, "Well, Lune will be back soon. She said she’s returning for the holidays to celebrate you."

June blinked, surprised. "Really?"

He couldn’t believe he would get to see his sister soon. Or rather, June’s sister—the supportive sister the character had always taken for granted, someone June himself had never truly valued.

From the book, she seemed like a blissful person, so June was excited to meet her.

"Yeah." Lucas nodded.

"But that’s not what you were supposed to say." Grey stared at him. "Speak now."

They all stared at Lucas as he cleared his throat, staring down at his drink before finally speaking.

"Good job. You did well... And... congratulations on getting back into the academy."

He looked up at June, his expression becoming more serious. "I don’t know what happened to you or how you suddenly changed, but..."

"But I’m glad you grew. And I’m proud that you did, too. You did a good job, and I guess you’re fit to be in the world of Guides and Espers. I suppose I was wrong for trying to stop you." He sighed before continuing, "So... good job again."

June felt emotional. A smile spread across his face as he listened to Lucas speak, but he couldn’t stop his heart from growing heavy. His eyes became teary as he nodded.

"Thanks," June said. "You’ve also done a good job by being patient with me and caring about me... Thank you."

Mr. and Mrs. En smiled as they stared at their children. They felt extremely proud as they simply shook their heads and watched them.

"Cheers," Lucas offered.

June picked up his glass, and they clicked them together in celebration while everyone smiled.

June was done eating and prepared to leave.

"Where are you off to? We should stay together a little longer and talk," Mrs. En insisted.

"Nyx is all alone inside. I have to go and be with him," he said, already about to get up.

"No need for that. He’s already here..." Grey said, pointing toward the stairs.

They all turned and saw Nyx.

He had gotten out of the room and was slowly making his way down the stairs while holding onto the railing.

"Nyx..." June instantly walked up to him and held him firmly. "What are you doing...? Why are you here?"

Nyx smiled as he stared at June. His pale expression lit up as he ran his hands through June’s hair and gently touched his face in admiration.

"It’s you..." He smiled warmly. "I guess I’m not dreaming..."

June stared at him. "You look tired... You should go in and get some rest since you’re awake."

But Nyx shook his head with a smile as he stared down at the dining table, where the others were sitting and watching him.

"I should at least show some respect and join them for dinner. Don’t you think so?"

"Oh, yeah, yeah! That’s true," Mrs. En happily said. "Since he’s awake, he should come and join us. He probably hasn’t eaten yet. He must be hungry. And there are plenty of healthy meals!"

"Yes, yes. I agree," Mr. En enthusiastically added as they walked toward them.

"We’ll lead you there."

Mr. and Mrs. En took Nyx away from June and led him to the dining table, helping him sit down with them.

June followed behind them. "But he has to rest."

"He can rest while eating. It’s not like he’s working afterward or something. He can sleep all he wants," Mrs. En said with a smile as she helped him settle into his seat.

June had no choice but to sit down with them, taking the seat beside Nyx.

"Are you sure about this? Sure you don’t want to go inside and get some rest? I’ll get your meal and bring it to you."

Nyx smiled and shook his head. "No. I’m okay here." He stared at everyone. "It’s respectful to spend time here with everyone."

Mr. and Mrs. En smiled profusely.

"Look at him. So obedient and respectful. What a well-mannered kid. That’s rare," Mr. En said.

Mrs. En nodded with a smile. "And he’s also good-looking. He looks like the perfect son-in-law for us."

Mr. En nodded in agreement.

June instantly felt shy as he turned toward his parents. "You don’t have to say that so openly..." He couldn’t help his heart from fluttering.

Mrs. En smiled. "Why not? It’s true. I’d be over the moon if we had such a son-in-law like him. In fact, I think we should work toward making him our son-in-law."

Mr. En nodded in agreement. "Yeah, yeah."

June’s cheeks flushed as he glanced at Nyx, who was staring down at the table.

"You two are so shameless... You don’t have to say that aloud."

"Why not? Lune isn’t here yet. When she’s back, we’ll certainly work toward Lune and him getting together so he can be our son-in-law!" Mrs. En announced happily.

Speechless, June felt something shatter inside him. The flush and fluttering in his heart instantly disappeared, replaced by rage and annoyance as he glared at his parents in disappointment.

"Hey, what are you talking about, Mum and Dad? Why would you say that about Nyx?" June demanded.

"..."

Mr. and Mrs. En stared at June.

"What? What did we say wrong? It’s true, though..." Mrs. En said. "I think they’d look good together, too."

"No, they won’t," June snapped. "Don’t ever think about it. Nyx is too busy with his studies to care about such things at all. So stop matchmaking him."

He insisted, earning a burst of laughter from Grey, which only pissed June off even more.

Meanwhile, Nyx sat there smiling as he stared at the jealous June.

Mr. and Mrs. En raised an eyebrow as they stared at June.

"Why are you acting so defensive? You... What are you to him? It’s not like you’re his boyfriend or anything—"

"Why can’t I be? What if I am? Yes, I am his boyfriend, so stop matchmaking him!" June insisted, sounding like a kid throwing a tantrum.
