Chapter 130: 130: Not Begging

As soon as June was done speaking, he took Nyx by the hand.

"Let’s get you treated, okay?" he said as he dragged him along, leaving the scene.

Ryan and the rest followed behind as murmurs spread through the atmosphere. The audience couldn’t stop talking about what had just happened. Drama after drama.

Meanwhile, Mr. Kevin and the authorities stood there staring. Mr. Kevin was furious, feeling utterly disrespected as he turned to stare at the principal and Chancellor.

"Useless..." he muttered before turning and leaving, the other authorities following closely behind.

---

Ken stood before the panel in his white lab coat.

Mr. Kevin stood in the middle before the table, while the principal and Chancellor sat at the side alongside the vice chancellor. Some authorities were also present, along with the deans. Mr. Yen, Mr. Drax, and Mr. Ethan were all seated as well, staring at Ken with fixed attention.

Ethan and Yen looked worried, while Drax remained cold and unreadable.

"I’m sure you know why you’re here?" Mr. Kevin said, staring at Ken.

"Not really. Is it because the dungeon blew up or because of my machine...?" Ken played dumb, raising an eyebrow.

Mr. Kevin wasn’t having it. He simply leaned closer.

"You were entrusted to handle such a simple task, and you couldn’t even do that? Is that how irresponsible you are? Do I need to revoke your license for you to understand my words better?"

Ken remained quiet for a moment, simply standing there and staring at him.

"I don’t need to understand your words to know that I don’t need to follow them."

"..."

Yen and Ethan immediately grew nervous on his behalf, but neither knew how to tell him to shut up. Once Ken was willing to speak, there was usually no stopping him.

Mr. Kevin scoffed.

"I see... So it was all intentional. You didn’t even do anything..."

"I did something," Ken replied.

Mr. Kevin tilted his head. "And what did you do?"

"I changed the format of the dungeon from what the Elite 5 already knew and were used to. Switched things up a little so they wouldn’t have the upper hand simply because they knew everything beforehand."

Ken smiled.

"That way, things would be more fair for everyone. Don’t you think so?"

The principal scoffed. "So you’re the one who made the Elite 5 lose to those... low-rankers?" he demanded.

Ken immediately defended himself. "I didn’t make them fail. They lost fair and square, and we all saw that."

Mr. Kevin had finally had enough.

He slammed his hand against the table and glared up at Ken. Silence filled the room during the tense moment.

"You..." Mr. Kevin’s breathing grew heavier. "You’re fired. Get out of this academy. And don’t even bother applying for work elsewhere in this space because I’ll make sure you get none. Is that clear?"

He leaned forward, his expression dark.

"That’s what you get for going against my words. I’ll make sure you suffer the consequences deeply."

Yen and Ethan’s faces immediately went pale as they turned to stare at Mr. Kevin.

What they had been afraid of had actually happened.

Ken, however, remained calm. Calmer than ever. A soft smile appeared on his face as though he had already seen this coming long before he decided to do what he did.

He didn’t seem to care at all.

"Okay. Anything you say then," Ken said as he approached the table and placed an envelope before them.

His resignation letter.

That left Yen and Ethan even more surprised. It was as though he had planned this alone all along.

"If working in this field means working with and under assholes like you, then I guess I’d be happier working in a restaurant."

He casually turned and began walking away.

But then he paused.

Turning around again, Ken stared directly at Mr. Kevin.

"And... be careful who you mess with. Fate doesn’t always favor someone twice."

With that, he turned and left the room.

They all remained seated there, staring at the door Ken had walked through as though they were the ones who had just been dumped.

Silence filled the room.

Then the principal cleared his throat.

"He’s always like that. Stubborn, so don’t mind him. Reminds me of that stubborn F-rank Guide too."

Mr. Watt nodded.

"But now they’re both out of the picture... you can have things go the way you want."

Mr. Kevin sighed and leaned back.

With this plan already having failed, he guessed he would have to come up with another one. One that would certainly pull Nyx into his trap.

Because after witnessing power strong enough to tear down the Elite 5 and destroy a simulated dungeon like that, Mr. Kevin had a strong feeling that Nyx’s possession of that power was even stronger than his brother’s.

And he had to get him for himself first...

---

Ken walked through the hallway, pissed.

He kept muttering and rolling his eyes over the events that had just happened.

"Useless. Stupid. Dumb. Did they think I’d beg them? Pathetic," he snapped as he continued walking.

"Ken!"

Someone suddenly called out from behind.

Ken didn’t stop. He didn’t want to.

He simply continued walking until Yen and Ethan rushed ahead and stood in front of him, blocking his path.

Ken stared at the two of them.

"What now? Did they send you to pass on more information about how ruined my career is?"

Yen sighed, panting softly as he spoke.

"I was scared this would happen, and it actually did..."

Ethan shook his head.

"Did you hate your job that badly that you had to go against him like that?"

Ken rolled his eyes.

"If we’re going to talk about this, then leave me alone. I have better things to do."

"No, but..." Yen cleared his throat, struggling to find the right words to approach the situation.

Even Ethan seemed equally speechless.

At that moment, Drax approached them from behind.

He stared at them from a distance before speaking.

"I guess some people just never grow. Making silly decisions that ultimately won’t favor them. Playing the hero in every situation without any logic behind it."

His lips curled slightly.

"Pathetic, if you ask me."

Ken and the other two turned toward Drax.

He stood there with Lizzy beside him, both staring in their direction.

And the moment Ken saw Drax, his expression darkened.

The anger that had been building inside him grew even stronger.
